Evan was very rude. We booked an appointment to brew. I asked if beer would be kegged and ready in 21 days. Was told yes. Today, different story. Was told that would not be a possibility. Then, Evan decided to get a bad attitude towards us since we decided to leave. Also felt the need to criticize our recipe the entire time. Not your beer, not your problem. Cliff was nice and apologetic, but we won’t be back.

This is a great place to experience on how to brew your own. They are very informative on how the process is done. The place is small like a big garage so you feel right at home. The only minus I have is that you should get a couple free beers while you brew instead of paying for it.

Good selection. knowledgeable service. Bar on the side serving up homebrew based suds. Turns out they’re very close to a place I’ll be brewing at often so convenience will win the day.

Been coming here since day one. Great local ran place, people that care and a family operation! If you want to brew your own beer this is your place. If you are looking for a brew pub like Mcmenamins where you can have a full meal this isn’t your place but for beer lovers that like unique brew and an awessome atmosphere this is for you. Shout out to Jason and Cliff beer superheroes!

They recently expanded their operation. Lagering facility and more room for more tanks means more beer! Also many places around town have proprietary beers that are brewed right here.

Love Portland u brew! The new hubby and I brewed a batch of beer here for our wedding. It was really fun, informative, and the beer turned out super hoppy and delicious. Im so glad Portland has a place where you can brew your own beer and drink their awesome brews while doing so. highly recommended!

I should preface this by saying I strolled in half an hour before closing on a Sunday night. And I went in thinking of getting dinner and a beer. I ended up getting beer and a snack. I don’t know if it was the owner, the manager, or just someone who worked there, but shortly after I sat down, a gentleman came over, pulled out the chair on the opposite side of the table and asked how I was doing. Then proceeded to explain the beers offered on tap and ask if I wanted any food. Some people might have been put off by that, but I found it quite endearing. I felt like I had walked into a friend’s kitchen. They have about half a dozen items on the Happy Hour menu as well as a limited selection of regular items. I went with 2 cheeseburger sliders and a pretzel off the HH menu in addition to a pint of French Saison. Okay, the beer was really good. The food, not so much. I’m sure it all came directly from Sysco or FSA and went straight from the freezer to the microwave before landing on my table. It wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t all that good either. I think my total, including the beer, was around $ 8.00 so I can’t complain. And they were playing some really great music. If you’re looking for brewing supplies, great beer, and good service, this is the spot.

This place needs to be in every city in the US. Great home brew shop and you get to make your own beer!!! Jason, the owner, is nice as hell and great staff as well. Highly recommend. A few people on here that gave it a bad rating must have something stuck up their butt. Relax, have a home brew…

This business hosted an event titled«Autism Sucks». As Temple Grandin says, «The world needs all kinds of minds.» Having a different neurology makes one just that: different, not less. Autistic people begged them to change the name of the event to no avail. Instead their outcry was ignored, social network comments were deleted, and non-Autistic people were able to openly shame those offended for being too sensitive. The behavior of the business owner shows disrespect, a lack of character, and poor ethics. My friends and family will not support hate with our dollars. I suggest you, potential customer, think twice about whether or not you want to give your money to this establishment.

The U-Brew & Pub has many cool components, including a homebrew supply store and a «make your own beer here area.» I’ve only been to the pub, so this review is pub focused only. We went in on a Saturday early evening after an early dinner next door at the taco shop. We each had one beer, and each beer was very good. The bartender was very knowledgeable of the variety of flavors in each beer and helped us each find something we would really like, and we did really like them.

Men in home brew shops have overwhelmingly proven themselves to be in the same genre of people as the little girls on Toddlers & Tiaras. Not one, not two, but three home brew shops, spanning from San Diego to Portland, have hired know-it-all, arrogant, male-beer-divas who apparently don’t have the time of day to deal with women(or possibly people they don’t, at first glance, perceive as craft beer /home brew experts). «Oh my lands, what is this beer stuff y’all are peddling?!» I said as I swooned with my handkerchief and weak disposition upon witnessing all the barrels of grain. Get the smelling salts, people, a GIRL is coming in to buy home brew supplies! I should probably note: This specific review is being written on behalf of my mom, as she had the more recent privilege of dealing with said diva(s) in the U-Brew section. Both my husband and I work in the craft beer industry, as well as home brew, and my kick ass mother decided a fun, unique gift would be to get some Pacific NW hops since we live in Southern California. This is a major assumption on my part, but if was a male working in a home brew shop and a female came in to get home brew supplies, and not only that, a mom was going out of her way to get an awesome home brew gift for her son-in-law, I’d be pretty excited to help out. Unfortunately, this has never been my experience in a home brew shop and it certainly wasn’t my mom’s experience here. When she started asking about different types of hops, the first guy(I can probably rightly assume it’s the same jackwaud from the previous negative Unilocal reviews) he threw some pellets her way and wasn’t willing to educate, assist, or otherwise provide any sort of customer service. There was no one else in the shop at the time, and obviously annoyed that my mom didn’t know exactly what she wanted, he hastily passed her off to a female co-worker(victory!) who was VERY helpful and provided my mom with some unique whole hop flowers in the refrigerated section, as well as some great insight on hops. We, in turn, received a very cool Christmas present — something we definitely wouldn’t be able to easily pick up in California. To the female worker: thank you for going above and beyond and providing exceptional customer service; you’re a true testament to how the craft beer industry should operate as a whole. This is BEER we’re dealing with, after all. Unfortunately, we’d never come back here or recommend this business to a friend, so I’m sticking with one star. Fortunately, as both San Diego and Portland continue to prove themselves to be meccas of craft beer, we’re not short on other establishments to frequent.

Interesting joint. Lots going on here. I love the concept of a place you can come brew your own beer, but I can’t say that it’s something I’ll ever use personally(I’d rather brew at home). As far as a homebrew shop, I didn’t check that area out, but it’s a big out of the way for me, anyway. The day I dropped it it was to have a beer! Funny story… I was running late to meet friends at U-Brew, so they had arrived before me. After being ignored for about 15 minutes by the guy working, they ended up leaving to Relish down the street. I met them at Relish for a drink, but really wanted to check out U-Brew. Reluctantly they caved and we went down for a beer. When we rolled in, there wasn’t even anybody there to greet us. We sat down and waiting a few minutes before one of my group hunted somebody down. The guy ended up being really nice, and the beer we were able to drink before the 4 o’clock closing time was really good. The place is kind of like having a drink at a friends house, except that you can’t serve yourself. I don’t think the bar area is really their focus, but if you can get a beer there, it’s worth checking out. Great beer, good prices. Love the concept & the beer, the execution isn’t quite there yet.

Portland U-Brew & Pub is a very warm and family friendly place, little ones cannot sit at the bar but the rest of the pub is fair game, there is even a table with toys, color pages and crayons available in their store area. Although I have not tried all of the beers yet, I was pleased with my selection and am craving more now that I am home! They are closed on Mondays but are open Tue-Thur 11 am to 6-ish Fri/Sat 11 am to 8-ish and Sun 11am to 6-ish As for the food I would say that it is not the priority because it’s all about the beer here… ya dig! Please enjoy *cheers*

New review: The hours still seem a bit inconsistent, but I finally went and it was open for Hoppy Hour. And very enjoyable. The bar tender was a great guy and my friend and I enjoyed a beer and nachos. It feels like you’re in someone’s house, in a good way. Very laid back and easy to meet others. Looking forward to next time. Old review: Was closed at 9pm on Saturday night. I don’t think the hours are very fixed. Too bad. I’ve tried three times! And I’ll keep trying.

First, I have to get something off my chest. For a long time, I had been nursing a dream/daydream of opening a brewery that is also a homebrew supply shop and a brewing school. I would often think about this as I bicycled to work from Milwaukie to Inner SE(through the very neighborhood that PUB now sits). So, when I heard about this place, I was somewhat perturbed because my «dream» had somehow been claimed by someone else. I’m over that now, though. I digress… I go here more for the homebrew supplies than the pub or the brewing services. They do make some great beer, though. It’s definitely nice to buy a pint of beer to drink while selecting ingredients or even just to sit at the bar and read the paper or talk to the owners. As a homebrewer, I’m really happy to live near this place. I used to go to FH Steinbart for supplies and that was a) a longer drive; b) often crowded; and c) a bit hipstery or something. They do have a bigger selection of ingredients than PUB and their prices(on some things) might be a little cheaper, though. PUB’s stock keeps growing, so that isn’t much of a concern. Plus, they’re always open to suggestions and special-ordering. I like their«Brewer’s Collective» monthly meetings, too. Homebrewers and people interested in brewing come together once a month to share their beers, ciders, and other creations. This is usually preceded by a local brewer or other industry professional talking about their brewery or about a particular brewing subject. For example, the most recent topics have been lager brewing(with the brewers from The Commons) and cider-making(with Bushwacker Cider).

This review is only for the pub side, since I was there after their brew shop hours. The pub’s not much to look at, but it feels pretty cozy, especially if you sit in the little separate room off to the right side of the front door. I drank a couple of pints of the house IPA, and it was light and refreshing. The guys working behind the bar were friendly and accomodating, and they were playing old live Grateful Dead tapes, so it was nice and mellow. I’m withholding the 5th star until I’ve had a chance to fully check out the shop.

This place just opened this past weekend, so naturally I had to try it [a couple] times. So they have a rotating tap, which I am very excited about and hope they keep plenty of IPA comin’, this is what they currently have: Fanno Creek Pilsner(2 yrs old !) Fanno Creek Vanilla Brown Ale Fort George Cavatica Stout Ninkasi Total Domination IPA Bridgeport Kingpin Full Sail Amber Sierra Nevada Pale Ale Deschutes Twilight They also brew their own beer and sell beer brewing supplies, they have a whole store attached. What a cute concept! They apparently are going to start serving food(paninis) as well. I love the fact that it’s family owned(Father/son shop)!
