There are so many other choices, I wouldn’t take your games here. I purchased a 2005×90 Volvo, that had a «clean title» from their, now out of business neighbors Luxe Autohaus. After taking it to my mechanic for another issue, was informed that my vehicle had frame damage. I took it back to luxe and they had ProTek «fix» it. RIGHT. (Note sarcasm) they basically rigged it up and sent me on my way. Bad on me for believing it. Fast forward a year, when I take it in for regular maintenance and my mechanic informs me of this rigged up job they did on my car. Now I have an unsafe car that is not drivable that I’m still making payments on. The lack of integrity and quality control is pathetic. This single mom just got smarter about buying cars, and trusting ProTek. Thanks for the not so free education!

From reading reviews and actually being there to get my car detailed with the guys inside their shop, Pro-​Tek looked promising. It was convenient and close to my house. The owner seemed nice so I thought I would bring my VW here after my warranty was up. However, the owner just did not seem to want my business. When I was getting my car wash at Gallagher Auto Spa (detail shop inside Pro-​Tek), I asked him for a quote on how much a 40k schedule maintenance would be for my 2014 Passat, the owner asked for my name and number and that he will look it up and get back to me later about the price… NOTHING. Never heard from him. Fine, things happen or he’s busy and he forgot. It happens. A couple of weeks I called again to get a quote for how much a DSG service (transmission flush) would be for my car. Once again, asked for my name and number and he said he will get to me on that. Once again… Zero, zip, nothing. I frequent at Gallagher for car washes and details. Sad to say, I don’t feel welcomed at Pro-​Tek at all.

Mike is fantastic. Took my car here after numerous awful experiences with Kuni BMW overcharging me for unecessary repairs to increase their unethical commission structure. After a trip to Puerto Rico, I came home to driver’s side foot wells swamped with water. Kuni had replaced one vapor barrier (what cover electronic components in passenger door) a year prior (passenger front) which they covered. They stated that all were leaking and had to be replaced. They replaced the one under warranty and i promptly called Mike who used to work at Kuni. He found only 2 needing to be replaced. Instead of $ 1700 at Kuni, Mike charged me $ 350 and had Enterprise Rental car come pick me up at his contracted and inexpensive rate. Mike has been exemplary to work with and holds a high ethical standard. I’m so happy to sever my awful relationship with Kuni and begin working more with a trustworthy fellow who earned my trust.

i am soooo glad we found this shop! we bought a 2006 LR3 from Luxe (they share a building) and they did a great inspection and repaired a few things to make it as perfect as a used truck can be. then today i had a sudden and terrifying sound coming from my rear passenger side wheel well. it thought i would go to them first since they always treated me with respect. not the norm for a busy housewife/​mother at a car repair place. not only did they offer to drive my son and i to his very first ice skating lesson around the corner at lloyd center they also picked us up! and the sound ended up only being a piece of gravel.
during the drive back to the shop i remarked on how great the service was and wished i wouldn’t have to go to the dealership for the eventual 90K service we will need. the tech told me that they have the same software so they talk can to my truck’s computer and get all the same parts as a dealership, sometimes at a slightly lower charge than the dealership may offer. SCORE! we haven’t had a trusted mechanic since i stopped driving volvos and we have never found-​until now– a trusted place for our BMW’s (one of which is 19 years old and still going strong) next time i have a service issue we will definitely be back!
side note: my husband had his 2004 M3 in for an oil change and he thought they did a great job also

I came into Pro-​Tek with a Groupon and was expecting a sub-​par experience (as can be the case when using Groupons). Instead they were friendly and professional and were able to fix my issues within a few hours. Their shop was the cleanest and quietest shop I’ve ever seen. I ended up paying a little more than I wanted to, but I think the price was absolutely fair. Later I talked to a friend who had had a similar problem fixed on his car before and found out he paid hundreds more than Pro-Tek’s estimate.
Groupon users should note: 1) Follow the instructions on your voucher closely. 2) The voucher only applies to labor costs.

I had great service at ProTek! I was helped by mike, who was very friendly and very helpful. I’ll be going back soon to get my brakes fixed. Overall, good experience. I didn’t feel pressured at all, and definitely felt that I received quality service.

I have a 2001 Jetta TDi, and after having my fair share of cars, I think I have found one that I want to invest in and keep around «til its wheels fall» (and quite frankly, beyond that point) But finding a diesel mechanic can be tricky.
About a year ago I bought a groupon for labor at Pro-​tek thinking it might save me when something goes wrong with my car. As the expiration date was approaching my car was doing fine. So not wanting to throw away the groupon I set up an appointment to have my car checked out, and if it needed anything to take care of it. In my mind this is like an alley-​oop for a mechanic to take me to the bank. Feeling ready to do battle about wiper blades, I got a call a day after dropping the Jetta where it was explained to me that they could not find anything wrong with my car. When I showed up they explained that I could still use the groupon another time and did not charge me anything! I liked that.
So when my car did have its engine light go on i took it in and without going into a bunch of detail, it was a very honest, efficient and surprisingly affordable experience.
Not to mention it is fun to see my little Jetta in a stable of BMW’s and gutted race cars. Making friends.

I bought a Groupon for Pro-​Tek after being told that I had a break light out. I also knew that I needed an oil & filter change, probably new wiper blades and a general inspection of my vehicle. I don’t drive much (I’m at 61,000 miles in 11 years), so I also don’t have it serviced often.
I was a little disappointed that they weren’t open on weekends, but luckily I have weekdays off occasionally as well. The shop is very clean, and I really liked Mike and his crew. We went through what I knew needed to be done, and requested that they take a look at my transmission and do an overall check. They share space with Luxe Autohaus, so I went to their waiting area where they have a great massage chair. There are also a good number of restaurants and food carts within short walking distance if you want to grab lunch while you wait.
It did take 3.5 hours for everything to be done, but I had 2 lights changed, a transmission flush and fill, an oil and filter change, all wiper blades replaced, and a very thorough inspection. They didn’t have the wiper blades in stock, so part of the wait was due to them having them delivered.
My Groupon was for $ 100, and I only paid an additional $ 130 for everything that they had done. I feel the price was very fair. They told me that I will need to have my rear brakes done in the next few months, but they weren’t trying to get me to do it right away. I didn’t feel that they were trying to sell me services that I don’t need (unlike places like Oil Can Henry’s, they’re horrible!).
I also have piece of mind that the car is in good working order after a good going through which is worth every penny!

Full disclosure: My dealership is located adjacent to Pro-​Tek, and I have a working relationship with this business. You should always meet people in person to get a better handle on how you feel about them, so I don’t expect this review to be your sole data point in your decision to hire a new mechanic. I do have a lot more experience with the local German, Japanese, and European mechanics in town than your average car owner, though (because I do a lot more volume, and I’ve been able to see patterns of behavior (deception/​upsells/​general disingenuity) that you wouldn’t see if you visited a shop only once or twice a year). I think this review will help a lot of peopIe avoid frustrating situations, but take it with the caveat that I do business with them. My review is genuine nonetheless, and I’m writing it because they were the answer to my frustrations.
I own a car dealership that specializes in BMWs, and Mike Christopherson has been my dealership’s go-​to mechanic for about six years now. He started working on BMWs at Kuni BMW in Beaverton, but I met him when he worked as the lead BMW tech at Pacific Motorsports on Powell; we were a big account for Pacific, and he was our point of contact. He was always very thorough, but realistic in his inspections of our cars. He would give us a list of «must-​do» items as well as a complete (with measurements) list of all the important used car metrics (brake pads and rotors, tire tread, filter condition, etc.).
Mike left Pacific Motorsports to start Pro-​Tek about four years ago, and we followed him because we trusted him. For three and a half years, we ferried our cars six miles out to his Clackamas location (despite the fact that Boyd Motorwerks, another local BMW shop, is literally across the street from us) and back, and he never failed to please us.
When I moved my dealership down the street to 17^th and Sandy last fall, I lobbied Mike and his partner, Bob Wescott, to move into the space next to us. We get the same great service now, but we don’t have to drive our cars as far.
Pro-​Tek uses genuine OEM parts, and they’ve got relationships with local suppliers to ensure that most parts they don’t have in inventory are a next-​day delivery; they’re exceedingly honest in their diagnoses, and won’t try to upsell you shamelessly; when they work on your car, they stand behind their work: if something they did breaks, they fix it immediately.
More importantly, Pro-​Tek has invested heavily in specialized tooling and diagnostic equipment — in fact, they are one of only a handful of shops in the Northwest (including BMW franchise stores) that have the factory BMW GT1 scanner that can communicate natively and bi-​directionally with your BMW and both correctly diagnose it as well as program it. Always ask your shop if they have the correct tools for your modern computerized car — if you don’t, you’ll be paying for them (by the hour) to learn what’s wrong by trial and error. A cheap code-​reader costs a shop (or anyone) about 85 bucks; a properly-​licensed BMW GT1 costs a little more than 100 times that, and you’re not even allowed to buy one unless you’re a properly credentialed BMW technician.
My dealership spends $ 15-​$ 25,000 every month getting our vehicles ready for sale. We’ve tried the vast majority of Euro-​car mechanics in Portland, and Mike Christopherson is the best. In the course of my trial-​and-​error search, I’ve had cars inspected by multiple shops for a second and third opinion. You’d be amazed (and probably disgusted) at the differences in the amount of work I’ve been quoted for cars that are in exactly the same condition. Mike is the only guy who has been consistently willing to show me exactly why he recommends the service he’s quoted, and he’s shown me point blank that other shops have flatly lied to me. He’s made mistakes, of course, but fixed them promptly; he has occasionally delivered a car to us a day later than he originally promised, but always with good reason; he’s a regular person like the rest of us. Mike’s great strength, beside the fact that he’s a phenomenally gifted mechanic, is that last thing — no matter what your knowledge level, he’ll treat you like a fellow person. That’s hard to come by in the auto world.

Scheduled a service to get my car checked out after purchase, plus I hit something, and knew car needed an alignment. Place has high reviews elsewhere, I figure «Okay, good stuff, let’s get it in.» Make appointment, explain what I need, all should be well.
We take in the car and drop it off. Walk to Voodoo Doughnuts (bonus). Car is pulled in right away. We’re thinking, «Wow! This will be a painless, easy experience!»
Wrong. After hanging out at Voodoo for 45 minutes, the car hadn’t been touched. Whomever we dropped the car off with then asks, «So what do you want done to the car?»
It’d just been sitting there, no one touched it, and for the second time, we explained what we came in for. Guy says, «Cars don’t really get tune-​ups anymore. So what you’re asking for is a 30,000 mile check up.»
It was almost funny, considering the following is directly lifted from Pro Tek’s website:
An average full service TUNE-​UP at Pro-​Tek costs about $ 110 to $ 425. The service includes all basic fluid, replacement of spark plugs, all filters complete brake inspection, checks for leaks, cooling system checks and a free safety check.
Regardless, I needed a tune up and probably an alignment, which they then state will take 4 hours. Sorry, we’ll take it somewhere else.
Oddly enough, within 48 hours of taking our business elsewhere, all four tires are mysteriously leaking. Maybe a coincidence, but eh. Regardless, we won’t be back.

Tucked back behind the Hobart building is Pro-​Tek and Fab-​Tek.
The owner’s names are Mike and Bob.
Mike is an intelligent and personable mechanic who doesn’t tell you what he thinks you want to hear, but what you need to hear.
His rates were much better than those at another local shop I had taken my Honda to. It was after consulting with Mike that I realized I had been screwed. Ugh.
Anyhoo, If you are looking for a mechanic I would suggest you give this place a try.
He works on just about everything.
