Do not do business with this company. Just called to cancel service at my business after 4 years. I was told by the rep when the contract was set up it was a 2 year contract. Well guess what they say it is a 5 year contract and they want a $ 717 early termination fee. One customer service person said when I complained «oh they cross out the 5 year contract all the time and write in 2 years but they didn’t on yours». So they do 2 year contracts, my rep was just a sleaze obviously and told us 2 years but didn’t change the contract.
And oh by the way they only had to come out and restart the protection one equipment that was already in the building. They did not even have to put in a system only just turn it back on.

Protection1 charges a cancellation fee equal to the length of the contract. terrible customer service, no response to repeated attempts at communication. Total scam company.

HORRIBLE MONITORING – NONE
Just got off the phone with customer service as they want to suck more money off of me. Disconnected their box in September and their lack of monitoring never alerted them that even though I paid through October my system was totally offline. When I got another bill I called to ask the status and they were still not aware the system was down but are charging me for failure to contact them. If I paid for 6 weeks and was not connected to them they were fully aware.

BUYER BE VERY AWARE!!! First this does not reflect the Portland Office but Protection One as a company. We have been customers of Protection One since 1999. Our service was fine during that time. However we sold our home 3 months ago and called them prior to selling stating that we were moving and no longer needed their service. I was told they could put us in a hold pattern until we decided if we wanted to activate service in our new residence and that we had a lot of credits so that if we wanted to upgrade or use our credits toward billing we could. I agreed to that. After moving and getting settled we received a bill for two months service, 5÷16−6÷15 and 6÷16−7÷15. (MInd you we moved out of our home April 19 They had no home to monitor) I spoke with someone that told me I would owe one months payment since we hadn’t decided if we were going to continue service. I told her I would have to speak with my husband about starting service at out new home because she told me and this was the first time that I heard this one, that we would have to sign a 3 year contract. We agreed that I would pay for one of the two months. I then sent the payment along with a note on the bill that stated that we were discontinuing service. Today I received a phone call that I owed for two more months because they were waiting for me to CALL them back and let them know if I wanted service. I explained that I had sent them a check already (7÷5÷13) and that I stated on the bill that we know longer needed their services. He said that they needed a written statement from me that would cancel the agreement.(Then why was the phone call needed) This was the first time anybody stated that we needed to sent in a written statement to end the contract. (He said in our original contract that is what it states. Mind you our original contract was signed in 1999. Do you think that maybe when I called in to originally CANCEL service that customer service would have mentioned that or when I had additional phone conversations someone would have mentioned that.) However I DID write on my bill when I sent it in that we were canceling service and that this was a final payment.
After todays conversation I agreed to sent them an additional payment (I still don’t know why). I called back to get the billing address and explained I needed to sent a cancellation notice with it. Then I am told that the Notice needs to go to a different address. First time I hear that one. What a way to scam people out of money. After 14 years of making payments for their services, what a poor way to treat a customer!!! (By the way what happened to the 300 plus credits that I supposedly had to be used toward upgrading or payments)
