The book business is moribund. Book printing began about 1400. It was a great improvement from hand copied books powered by no wage monks. Now we print literally tons on dead trees. Many expire on bookstore shelves, maybe they are recycled. Enter Publication Studio. They can print a book and bind it when you need it. No massive shelves of risky inventory. They have a small selection of titles. Talk to them if you have your own publication that needs super reasonable printing. Friends who needed a printed sample in a day or two found them the only responsive option in all Portland. I’ve bought a novel there that was too controversial for a big publisher. Highly entertaining and it touches on Portland! They occasionally run a rebinding day, in which you can re-glue the edge and attach a generic paper cover to one of your falling apart books. A chill spot to converse with the artist publishers. Great spot to buy a gift book for the hard to shop for, that can’t be gotten anywhere in the world, literally! (They are across from Bailey’s Taproom and a door away from Santeria, books, beer and burritos!)
