Queen For Health

Dr. Kimberly Queen is an amazingly wise healer. Our family has gone to Dr. Queen for many aches and pains in the years. She’s not only helped heal them, she’s taught us how to care for ourselves. We can always depend on a prompt and caring response from a clinic that is both thoughtful and full of class.

I have gone to Aspen in two parts in my life, once for 24 sessions in 2008 as part of my training to go to the United States Marine Corps Officer Candidate School. During my training I strained a support muscle doing reverse crunches with 360lbs on the machine (I was extremely fit but not aware that this exercise should be limited to 1.5x your torso weight. Naturally, I excelled at this exercise a year later at OCS doing reverse crunches while inverted over a log on the fartlek course).
After my injury, stiffness and pain increased, mornings were bad! I first went to a different chiropractor who did several «hoky» tests like measuring the temperature of my back. Their treatment involved 2 adjustments and ball rotations (sitting on a ball and moving your body in a circle using your legs), I was also called at 8:30PM and given the recommendation of taking a hot bath with Epsom salts. Needless to say, these methods had no impact and barely even effected my injured area.
I knew when I went into Aspen and filled out their condition form that this was not going to be the case here. Their condition form lists several types of pain and has pictures of the body where you mark where and what. This was my first clue to excellence and a perspective that included all parts of the body, not just the spine or your muscles. My treatment there involved exhausting the strained muscles using the electro-​stim machine and heat in order to relax the strained muscles, then massaging it to stretch it out: FINALLY RELIEF TO MY SYMPTOMS OF PAIN AND STIFFNESS.
But they didn’t stop there, the stretches and spinal adjustments performed, as well as the stretches they helped me to learn and practice on my own, helped me counter act my 9 – 5 at a computer job and get the full effect of my 3x/​week 2 hours of exercise and 4x/​week 3 mile running circuit.
What kept me going back, besides the insurance coverage, was the improved flexibility in my upper body and waste that EVEN THE NEXT WEEK I noticed during my runs. While it wasn’t like I was grinding a transmission in my stride and rhythm before being at Aspen, it felt like I had been freed and if my cardiovascular system could take it, I could run around the Portland Promenade and dance around people as I did it. I’d say my gate increased at least 6 inches, and my 3 mile time finally got under 22 minutes. By the time I went to OCS I was running 20:30s, doing 18 pull ups in a set, and could knock out 100 crunches in 53 seconds WITHOUT being sore let alone stiff the next day. I owe this to their proper understanding and training of me on how to properly stretch the areas I was working, proper posturing, and fulfillment of my request to stretch me to my limits on my subsequent visits: All without one setback.
Fast forwarding to this year and with the Marine Corps behind me, I had the misfortune of slipping a disc last fall. I had not been exercising regularly for months, let alone stretching, and ended up bed ridden for weeks, then hobbling for a month, and finally just gimpy after getting an in home adjustment. While at the ER the day of my accident, I was given a pain killer and then sat in a chair while my lower back to my knee was in spasm: spraining every muscle in my butt cheek and back of my thigh. So while my disc was fine, my left hip was 1.5″ higher than my right, I couldn’t stand up straight at the hips though I could lean back at the waste, and trying to stick my left foot out for more than a 1′ stride was murder. I was a wreck and I knew I was all tangled up in my left buttocks. Piriformis, Gluteus Minimus, Obsturators, and Gemellus muscles were all tangled up and pushing on my sciatic nerve and it was driving me nutts! Getting into the passenger seat of a car (as I could no way drive) was like being asked to sit down on a random nerve pinching and shooting pain device.
So, after being able to reasonably take a car ride lasting over 10 minutes, called up Aspen. This time the electrodes went different places, and trusting Dr. Queen (who I called McQueen after a television USMC Colonel), had felt right at home and did not mind all the electrodes all over my butt. Hell, she even remembered my girlfriend’s name from 5 years ago. So after stim and heat, I got the least awkward butt massage that only brought one thing to mind, ground meat forming sausage links. It felt like she was re-​assembling the broken jigsaw puzzle that was the muscles in my buttocks. Afterwards, boy hurt like hell, still couldn’t barely put my shoe on or take a step: she warned me of this and let me know to just take some time standing and walking as gently as possible… So I went to the counter, did the whole checkout thing, and very gently walked to the car… I sat in the car and YOWZER OW OW OW OW OH OW OH OH oh oh ohhhh. Hey honey, lets go walk around Washington Square Mall ok? 3 hours of walking and I’m good to this day. Go see «McQueen» at Aspen, it’s the correct choice.

I’m willing to drive from North Portland to be treated by Dr. Kimberly Queen if this tells you anything about how much I LOVE Aspen. She did cranial sacral on my daughter and has treated me for acute back pain, plantar fasciaitis, Achilles tendinitis, sciatic pain, and knee pain. She also has great knowledge of homeopathic medicine and has treated my chronic ear problems and allergies. Even my husband, the skeptic, is convinced of the benefits. My son will be seeing her very soon for growing pains and my daughter for an adjustment.
