Yesterday morning, I wanted to have a Quiznos breakfast sandwich, so I popped down to this location just a block from home. I’ve been there for lunch too. Anyhow, when I arrived at opening time, the door was still locked. I let out a little distress sigh. One of the employees was standing nearby and let me know their regular breakfast shift person had called in sick and that the owner would be by shortly to open and get set up with his help, but that it would take about a half hour. That was excellent information, so I buzzed over to Stadium Freddie’s and bought a few needed items. After my Freddie’s visit, I returned. The very nice manager and replacement breakfast shift person greeted me very cheerily(I’m sorry I didn’t get their names). They were still a little bit in the midst of setting up, but you’d never even know it. These two didn’t betray one minute’s worth of stress or upset and chatted with me and laughed with each other. I ordered the breakfast sandwich on a biscuit and it was very tasty, the biscuit was very flaky, hard to belive it’s one made for mass consumption. It tasted like it had been made on site and baked just that morning. While I ate, I continued to talk with the manager and the sandwich maker(I was the only one there at the time), and it really set the tone for the rest of my day. It seemed more like a small-town café than an urban chain sandwich shop on one of the busiest streets in Portland. It’s also very clean and well lit, and it’s also in a very enviable location, directly across the street from the Jeld-Wen Stadium ticket offices. It’s also a great location for people watching. I will not only return for lunch, but will make it a point to return for a breakfast sandwich with these very nice people. I wish them well!
