Regal Broadway Metroplex

The popcorn is almost always stale, but I love the oversized, underground theaters. I’m never left wandering around looking for seats after the two or three «good» ones have been taken, because there are plenty. Staff has always been friendly, even during the few midnight showings I attended here.

Hands down, this is my favorite theater in town. Broadway is unassuming. It’s underground. It’s cheap, and the theaters have tables where you can set down your popcorn and drinks.
For some reason, this theater really does have a better crowd that other theaters. Maybe because it’s not very busy. Maybe because most teeny boppers go Regal Stadium 6, and the hipsters go to Fox tower (although I do still love Fox tower-​just turn off your I-​Phone!!).
Anyhow, the BF and I have seen a lot of opening nigh tr movies here for cheap, and it total silence, which is perfect.
When I want to see a movie, I ALWAYS try to see it here, first.

We often mosey down to PDX for the Portland International Film Festival (PIFF) and, per this, have now had the chance to see a few films at this cinema.
I am thoroughly impressed.
The two things that are most important to me in cinema seating are leg room and having a clear view of the screen. This place gives me both.
All times we have gone, we have sat in the back of the auditorium, where comfy seats allow you to recline back, and stretch your legs. As others have mentioned, there are tables in the midst of these seats. Besides giving you a convenient place to put your stuff, if you are sitting just to the right or left of one, there is also a table just to the right or left of you in the row ahead. This means you can focus on that spot for looking at the screen and have a completely unobstructed view. This is especially convenient for those sub-​titled flicks.
The theater is clean. Staff are friendly. Obviously, they support PIFF. If I lived in PDX, I could definitely see this being a favored place for seeing mainstream films year round.

Everyone else already told you it’s underground.
I can tell you that we were able to take in ‘ECLIPSE — THE TWILIGHT SAGA’ here with not even one twittering tweener in sight… that was enough to make me a fan.
I can also tell you that it is clean – no dirty carpets, sticky floors or nasty seats in here, folks. Yes, even the restroom is clean and well lit.
Of course the concessions are overpriced – it IS a movie theater – that is to be expected. We brought in our own bottled waters with no guff from the staff… thanks, Regal!
Insider Tip: Buy a $ 10 Entertainment Book at the first of the year and by using the discount movie coupons alone it will more than pay for itself.

This is by far the best movie theatre I’ve ever been to!
The only downside was the prices; $ 8 for a matinée, and $ 5 for a large drink. But compared to other prices in Portland, it’s the cheapest. I’m just used to paying $ 6 for a matinée in other cities.
They however do NOT check bags, which allowed me to eat a pre-​stored lunch in the theater. Can’t tell you how convenient that was.
The seats reclined like my recliner at home! There were TABLES in the middle of the rows with cupholders! Everything was so comfortable.
Will always come back to this theatre when im in town, especially after meeting the nice owner, a large Hispanic man in his early forties.

Last night Jenny and I wanted to take a ride in the Hot Tub Time Machine but when we got to the theatre the girl working told us that the film broke and that we would be missing about 5 minutes of the movie. «An important 5 minutes,» I asked facetiously (because we were seeing Hot Tub Time Machine). Very seriously, she said yes. We asked if there was any discount on the movie since it was broken and the big guy behind her shook his head no. I understand that things break but the fact that the theatre wasn’t offering a discount on the movie bummed us out. We sadly decided to see it another time.
Also, as I pointed out later, they probably could have downloaded it illegally and shown it on the projector (screw you FBI warning!)

The Latino Film Festival was brought me to the theatre the first time. We arrived late so had to sit up front. I loved walking in to this theatre. It feels like what I imagine Annie felt like upon walking into the movie theatre with Daddy Warbucks. It’s so grand. The stair case going downstairs makes me want to tap my shoes down.
My most recent visit had me there on a Monday at 3pm, I got out of school and managed to walk by this place in time to see Shutter Island, on a whim. I love those days. Anyhow a matinée show was $ 8.00 wtf! Oh yeah this is why I do 2^nd run movies. OK well I went in the middle of the day, 2 other people were in the theatre with me, so all was a great experience beyond the cost. I’m usually against spending so much for a movie but it was a last minute idea whose timing was perfecto, so what the hell. I will definitely be back for the Latin Film Festival because of the mood this place sets for me, so romantical. yes romantical (like flava flav says) .:D but anyhow the cost of a 1^st run movie these days doesn’t seem justified.

Surprisingly, this theater’s admission prices are cheaper than the other Regal Theaters in town. I much would rather go here than the at Pioneer Mall since there are more seats it seems and not as crowded. I also like the fact that we have to go underground to see the movie. Granted, it is not stadium seating like Pioneer, but there is more room overall. They don’t show as many movies as the other theaters, but it is certainly the better and cheaper theater to go to over Pioneer.

Two hours before the movie started, I dialed the theater number,
Me: «Hello​.is the theater stadium seating?»
Guy: «Oh yes, all our theaters are stadium seating.»
Me: «Oh cool! Thank you very much.»
I went there, used my free ticket from my Regal Card (Yes I watched too many movies). I walked down to the theater, went to the concessions. I got a medium pop corn and medium soda. The nice lady told me that free refill on the pop corn and also the soda! Wohooo!
I grabbed my pop corn and soda, walked inside the theater 1 and… it’s not a stadium seating theater! I think the guy got confused, or I’m the one who got confused. All the seats are on flat surface, there’s no seat higher than other seats. I prefer stadium seating since I’m such a short person, I don’t like to seat behind tall people (no offense talls). Some of the seats in the back have mini tables which is kind of cool.
The theater is HUGE. I’m very picky when it comes to my seat. I like it to be in the middle and not to far down, not to high up. Anyway, I got my seat since there were hardly anyone in there. I dig the theater, but seriously, this is NOT a stadium seating theater.

it plays a lot of arthouse pics, independents, blockbusters, along with the big budget indies. I’ve seen Hamlet 2 to Princess Monononononomoromokoke or however you say it here.
the place looks like broadway. its on the street broadway. across the street from the playhouse. but also inside doesn’t look like a theatre. the inside looks like outside. like the outside of the real broadway in new york. but their exterior looks like the inside of a theater. no not really but if it did it would be hilarious.
anyhow the movie theater is downstairs, which is cool because you feel like you are being transported into a movie itself.
the inside of the theaters have first class and coach. meaning regular theater seating, but in the back you have recliners and tables for food. that’s brilliant! genius!
portland is a great town and has a lot of cool movie houses but this one is actually nice and not run down. it adds charm to this city, it’s one of the places i would take someone to show them around portland.
the more i go back, the more i grow old, the more i grow fonder. its a beautiful city.

I dig this place. It feels like an underground movie theater.

And while there really isn’t much special about the price (the ridACKulous price of the concessions) or the screens, I totally respect a place that will graciously hand over a screen for an evening so a handful of people can watch indie flicks at a reduced price.
You go, Metroplex!

A cautionary tale:
SCENE: Monday evening. Independent film night. How awesome that a faceless corporate downtown movie theater provides this cheap and informative event, at least until November 3^rd? However, the nifty five-​punch pass they give you says that the movies are «independant.» Spelling errors cause me to eat and drink.
ME: «Dum ta dum. Oooh, look at these Sour Skittles! I’ll bet those go great with movie-​watching and very limited water. Dum ta dum.»
CUT TO: A searing, scalding crop of taste bud obliteration on my tongue. It burns, oh it burns! My mouth is still sore, even today. Not like that, you sicko! Don’t fail where I did. Take that extra dough you save from paying a mere five bones for an indie flick and buy some PBR or a nice card for your mama. Don’t squander it on overpriced concessions that alter the landscape of your tongue. I was once like you. ..

The last time I visited the Regal Broadway Metroplex, I saw American Beauty… so…2000? 2001? I kind of forgot about this place. However, it endeared itself to me this weekend, and is now officially my favorite first-​run movie theater.
*The ticket price is $ 7, which is what it SHOULD cost to see a first-​run movie. ($ 9 admission my butt Fox Tower.)
*They have some old-​timey cinema décor inside: retro movie posters and neon signage; etc.
*We were greeted by the friendliest usher ever! He had a lot to tell us about the concessions and locations of the restrooms! I’m not poking fun — he was great.
*Those restrooms — spotlessly clean.
*The theater seats are rocking-​chair style and super comfy with occasional tables spread around for your snackies.
*I’m docking a star because you’re downtown Broadway Regal Metroplex, and I loathe paying for/​driving around trying to find parking.

I’m not really surprised that I’m the first to review this theater. When we went on New Year’s day, we arrived about 5 minutes before the movie’s start time. There was no box office line, no concessions line, and the theater was mostly empty. Right on!
The theater is actually below-​ground, so you walk through the doors and go down 2 flights of stairs. At the bottom of the stairs we were greeted by an enthusiastic ticket-​taker (when does that ever happen? Usually they are sullen teenagers that take your tickets and point vaguely in the direction you’re supposed to go). The concessions girl mixed our pop flavors for us since there was no one else in line. Then we walked into the theater — there are living room-​like areas in the back with tables between the large, rocking lazyboy style seats. You can actually put your soda and popcorn and candy somewhere other than your lap! It was a great first impression.
