I lived in the area all my life but had never been to Roakes. I’m not sure what I expected, I’ve always heard good things about them so I guess my expectations we’re pretty high. I got the foot-long Coney as did my partner and we shared a large order of fries. Starting with the fries they looked like they were fresh cut skin on shoestrings. Unfortunately they were a little limp and oily. They weren’t bad but just not good either. The dogs were OK but the Coney sauce was sparse and they were just not as good as I expected. After this experience I consulted with friends who had eaten there and was told burgers and milkshakes were very good, I have decided next time I go there I will try them.

Hands down one of my favorite spots as they serve some of the best coney I’ve had! I always get the same thing and am never let down, a Roaker Burger and coney fries. Always delicious. Plus it’s affordable! For a big thing of food it’s only $ 8 and their kids meals are only $ 2.95! Come try it for yourself!

The absolute best Coney Island in the whole world… You will not find a better one anywhere… It’s a foot long. They also have Coney fries that are absolutely delicious with fresh potatoes not frozen. Burgers are pretty darn good too and real ice cream shakes. I live in Arizona now and every time I come here I have to make sure I get a roakes or two in. Then I buy a lot of sauce freeze it and take it home. I am telling you it’s a must. It’s a very small trailer same original trailer back from the 1940s A few seats inside but many people just take it and eat it in the car and take it home or to a park .they have a takeout window and will call your number on the loudspeaker.

This is a community icon and family favorite! I have great childhood memories of eating coneys here. While I was pregnant with my first baby I made up reasons to have to go to Gladstone so I could stop at Roakes. Now my kids love it! It could use a facelift, but never change the food!

If you’re wanting a good straight forward REAL burger. Head here. You will not be disappointed. Fries, burgers, hotdogs, shakes. Sometimes that’s all you need. Loved the burgers & fries. There’s not much seating. They give you playing cards instead of an order number, which I loved! The girl at the counter was super friendly and answered all my questions brightly with confidence. Its now on the rotation.

Good food and friendly staff that are willing to customize any order. Love the history and simple, but extensive menu. Inside seating is cramps at times and there is outside seating also. Coney sauce on anything is good.

This place looks so cute on the outside, total old school, divey burger bar where you’re expecting something amazing to shock you and come out of it. Not only was it not amazing, it wasn’t even good. Limp soggy fries, burger with no flavor… the type of burger that could pass maybe 20 years ago but this is Portland and everyone has stepped up their game. No thanks.

Ok, so we all know that reviews are in the teeth and taste buds of the reviewer. That’s why you read multiple reviews to see if the writer may be like you and therefore, you might agree with their culinary assessments. So. This is original dive food. The buns on the long sausage and the long hot dog were like Franz white fluff finest. No, the nutritional value is not high. Yes, it gloms to the top of your mouth and may have to scraped off with your tongue. The hot dog is your basic weiner, in color, smell and taste. The sausage is not some New Seasons hand seasoned, permeated with the kiss of virgins either. But, if you are on that corner of McLoughlin, and you want to support a local business with extremely friendly help and pay a VERY reasonable price. Go to Roake’s. One long sausage dog with their famous chili sauce(so not spicy) and one long hot dog with relish only, one water, one medium root beer = $ 10.35. Only Pepsi products on site. Fine. Very Fine.

This place is a complete dump and the food tastes terrible. I had a chili dog when I went. The hotdog was by far the world hot dog I’ve ever eaten anywhere in the world. I ended up throwing my meal away. Save your money and go somewhere else!

rude service, I ordered chili cheese fries, regular fries and 2/coney’s and one fry was not given to me I paid for it and when I got home I called them and they pretty much said too bad and called me a liar. first of all why would I lie about a fry not being in my bag I know its petty for $ 1.85. WHATEVER!!! Roakes has bad customer service. the Asian girl and heavyset lady were demeaning, rude and bitchy I will never be back EVER!!!

Been coming here since I was old enough to eat hot dogs. And my dad had been eating here since before he was in High School(go Oregon City HS!) He graduated in 1954! Excellent food! Same recipes for all those years! I heard once several years ago a big Cony place in Cony Island tried to buy the Cony recipe from the owners and she flat turned them down. Keep up the good work guys! By the way, the deluxe burger is the best in the area!

Excellent food at an excellent price. I’m never disappointed by anything that I order when I come here. My only complaints are that I wish I could order a smaller fry than they offer, I find it hard to finish both a burger and fries when I order them. Also the place is very small and very busy, so it can be hard to find seating, especially when it’s not a nice day out so you can’t sit outside. Parking can also be a hassle because some of their parking spots in the front block the ones in the back, so you can’t pull out if you park in back and someone parks in front of you. Food is great though, some of the best burgers around.

When you’re down for some greasy«bad» food — this place is the spot. The coney dog with onions is amazing. The fries are fresh off the grill. The customer service is always great as well. Located right on 99E — you really can’t miss this place. The only down fall of this place is it’s location to enter and exit. They currently have Coke Product and the shakes are bomb too! Say goodbye to your diet if you want to try this place out! One dawg please!

This place was great. I got a long coney dog and fries. The fries are some of the best I have ever had. The dog was great and very large for the money. I will definitely go back and maybe try the burger. Cash only but with an ATM.

This place is awesome! It’s a lot like an old school drive up I used to go to in DC as a kid. All of their food is made to order, so you know it’s fresh. The portions are generous and the price is low — if you’re looking for a quick bite in Milwaukie, and you don’t want to go to a chain, you should definitely check this place out.

Coney dogs, burgers, milkshakes, and fries, oh my! It looks like this place hasn’t changed much since it opened in ’38, but the food is food stuff. Dining room is not much unless you’ve seen the inside of a sardine can, so you may want to call ahead and place your to-go order. It’ll cost you a bit more, but you should pay the extra for tomatoes on your coney fries – you’ll thank me.

So I remember coneyislands from when I was a kid and I have been on search for that same taste for many years. I thought it was from another restaurant on this McLoughlin strip that too has been around for many many years. I have been going to that said restaurant and have been disappointed for years thinking the recipe must have been changed as there coney has a sweet relish like sauce on it. YUCK! Now I have driven by Roakes thousands of times and never really thought of stopping in. Today was the day. I went in about 11:30am. The building itself is tiny and if your over six feet tall you would surely have to crouch to get in. There was one patron enjoying hs lunch. The place was neat and clean and has some interesting history to read on the walls if your into that sort of thing. I ordered the Coney Island with the works, fries and a drink. I found a seat and did’nt wait long. The service here is fast an efficient and food is served with a smile. I like that. Now I’m a crunchy fry kind of guy. The fist thing I noticed was soggy soft fries hmmm but oh the taste. They were seasoned beautifully and I found they needed no salt or ketchup they were deliciously perfect. What a nice surprise. Now onto the coney Island. One bite and I knew I had found it! That REALLYREALLYGOOD coney island from my past. The cheesy, spicy, hot sauce was it. If you don’t know a good Coney go to Raokes and find out what it is supposed to taste like. YUMYUMYUM! I will definitively be back.
