Rock Creek 185 Apartments

Nice place to live, never run into any problems with other residents. Everybody minds their own business while remaining polight including the staff which I really like. The maintenance is pretty good especially Polo who is awesome, he’s been a lifesaver. Very fast and professional and I don’t feel like he’s going to steal my things, which unfortunately is how I feel with alot of maintenance people I’ve had at places I’ve lived at. I had a toilet clogged to the point I couldn’t fix it with a snake and thought it would have to be removed, Polo came over with a giant snake and it still took 30 mins but he still got it. All of this was last minute and I needed it done quick cause I had alot of people about to come over. So over all definitely happy living here

I moved across country from Vermont without ever having been to Portland so let me preface with that.
I found an ad on craigslist for a 2 bedroom loft with utilities included that had a pet deposit of 300 hundred and relatively manageable move in expenses. Now the ad specifically said 2 bedroom loft. We thought we were getting two bedrooms and a loft. Not a loft style bedroom and another bedroom. I was moving cross country and was just ready to find a place. First months rent rolls around and oh no, its not 1281 its 1397, after accounting for water sewage and trash. They begin to tell me they include all our bills in our rent. Now call me old fashioned but bills included means bills are covered in the rent. Oh also they forgot to mention the 25 $ a month pet fee as well! Oops!
It’s easy to pull one over on young men, and these apartments took full advantage of us not checking the paperwork.
When we got here I was really happy a location right next to the entrance to the apartments AND across from the dumpster, convenient right? No. I never am allowed to sleep in. Ever. Whether it be the ridiculous 8 am leaf blowers they hire to ruin your life, or the 2 – 3 times a week I get to wake up at 5:30 to the trash guy emptying the trash for about ten riotously loud minutes. Or the fact that half of the residents here think they’re speed racer and pull out of the apartments with their after market mufflers as if to say yes I have a small dick but look how loud my car is at 6 am.
I complained to the apartments about a specific individual who idles his car in the morning to warm it up, meanwhile I hear the reverberations in my pillow. The office response. What do you want us to do? He lives here to.
The people at the office respond with as little courtesy as they can get away with. The appliances in my apartment are older than I am, im 24 the heat WILL not warm your house unless you want to pay 300 a month for heat because the buildings are to old they do not insulate worth shit. I can hear my neighbors because of this as well.
And to top it all of, you think this is a nice neighborhood? Wrong, I constantly have to chase people off from digging through the trash cans in front of my house, and you know what that got me?
Somebody broke into my house and robbed me.
But please, come to Rock Creek 185 if that sounds fun.

I live here! The management is the worst I’ve ever seen! ZERO customer service and no ethnics at all

I saw an ad on Craigslist for a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment at this property and the price looked good so my husband and I decided to stop by and take a look at it. We met with Brittany but the property that was on Craigslist miraculously was already rented but some other tenant should be out within a week. Brittany went as far as to call the individual and supposedly she was going to come into the office to talk to her. She advised that after she spoke with the current tenant she would call us back and she did. When I spoke to Brittany the same day she said the tenant will be out by the end of the week and we could view the property as soon as they can fix what needed to be fixed etc. Two weeks go by and I call back Brittany claims that the tenant decided not to leave even though she told us that the person was moving because of a job. Now my reason for writing this and the low rating is because even after all this the apartment was and probably still is listed on Craigslist for rent. I have to say my husband is a good judge of character because he didn’t trust anything that she said. From the reviews I have read about this place we may have just dodged a bullet. Do your research before dealing with these people.

Moved in to Rock Creek 185 about a year ago. This place is pretty great. The neighbors really help make it even better. We took advantage of the park like setting and had barbecues all summer with all the fantastic people we met here. The pool is nice, never really overcrowded. The management has made sure repairs were handled quickly, and have been so wonderful when any issues come up. My dogs love walking all around the property. Such a fun place for them because there are so many other dogs here. My loft is BEAUTIFUL! Hard floors all downstairs and carpet upstairs. The appliances have been pretty good. The only complaint I have is how sweltering hot the upstairs gets in the summer, but to be expected in an older poorly insulated structure. I have a hose hook up in my carport and have been able to wash my car right here. The balcony is the best! Ample storage in this place… they might have to drag my dead body out of here in a million years, because I’m sticking around!

There is not too much I can say about this place. It you like a quite place then this is right for you. As far as the rent is concerned. This place is over priced for the value. After you initial lease is up you can expect the rent to be raised at 8 to 9 percent. So just bend over. The are going to give it to you and they will not negotiate. They property manager has absolutely no social skills when it comes to working with the tenants. She hide behinds the leasing staff the property manager will not call you if requested. She will leave it to one of her leasing staff to call. It appears all they care about is just new tenants. And do very little to help those that are already here. I wished I had read the reviews before I rented here. I would have chosen a much nicer place with a much more personable management staff.

THIEVES. Got charged WAY more for ridiculous move-​out fees from what I was initially told during the move-​out inspection. Didn’t get a single dime back from my deposit. Management was snooty (besides Madison), but Maintenance was great when I had to deal with them. Wouldn’t bother with this place.

One of the worst experiences I have ever had trying to rent an apartment. I feel like they tricked me stating one price for an apartment and then upping the rent after I had passed the background chexk.
Renters beware. I’d advise staying faw away from this place.

We’ve lived here for about 8 months now, just getting ready to sign our next lease. We moved in after the new management company took over so we haven’t had any of the problems past reviewers have complained about. We’ve never had any problem with the management staff, in fact they’ve been wonderful to us even when we were in almost daily with maintenance requests (the previous tenants beat the crud out of the place) and always have a smile and some candy for my son. The grounds are lovely, plenty of green spaces to run around in or just enjoy the ducks. The pool is opening next week, but it’s never looked gross, even in the middle of winter. I have not been in the gym but it looks adequate from what I’ve spied through the windows. While I wish the rent was a little lower it isn’t outrageous. Overall I like it here a lot.

I still feel my initial review is pretty accurate.
Just thought i should note that the complex was bought by new owners and now they have entirely new management. I still think things are about average…3 stars worthy, give or take. The new office workers seem nice, though i have only talked to them a couple of times so far. The only downside to the new ownership and management that i have noticed is A.) They’ve raised rents, a little if you are leasing all the way to quite a bit if you are doing month to month. B.) The landscaping noise has gotten MUCH WORSE early in the mornings… fortunately that seems to be somewhat sporadic.

The apartment complex is nicknamed Motel 185 because of the constant turn over of residents. The constant turn over is because of the unprofessional, harassing, confrontational and degrading treatment of the residents by the apartment management staff.
The apartment management staff attitude towards the residents is that they are lucky to be renting from them. The management staff is annoyed if you request a service for them. They will also blame you for their clerical errors. They do not realize that the tenants are paying them for a service.
Management are inconsistent and obituary in applying apartment rules to residents so expect notes on your front door constantly. They will state you are in violation of an apartment rule that doesn’t exist. Their perspective is that it is an implied rule, even if it doesn’t exist in writing. Don’t even bother to talk to the apartment management team about violations unless you want to get into a confrontation with them and leave angry.
The swimming pool is filled with the pond water. Not illegal but very gross (see picture) Constant noise from the road, geese, ducks and residents. Gym equipment have not been updated in over 5 years.
The apartments are beaten and not maintained. There is new inexpensive paint and carpet on the buildings but that doesn’t constitution well maintained.
Constant turn over in the residents. Residents stay on average until their contract is over. Also there is a up charge going month to month.
If you need a transition place before moving into another apartment then I would consider this place, if not I’d go someplace else.
On a final note: The apartment management team will tell you that there is no final walk through with the resident then turn about and do a final walk through after you drop off your keys to them. So take photographs of the condition of the apartment before and after you leave so you can contest the deductions to your deposit. They will nickle and dime your deposit away with hidden costs such as more rent even if you paid in full, 3 months of garbage, sewage and electricity even if you have already paid it in full.
On a positive note: the maintenance people are great.

UPDATE:
New management bought the place and they fired all the old managers and office staff on 20 Dec 2011. They MIGHT still have some of the most awesome maintenance guys in the world, but some of them got hacked, too.

People who WORK here call this ‘Rock Creek Motel’ due to the turnover.
Do not move here. Zero stars.
Moved out after 5 years and got stiffed of our deposit, ect. I am now $ 600+ in the hole. The manager, an idiot of a guy, REFUSED to do a walk through on our last day, said we would get the full amount back due to being there 5 years. We left, he did a walk through THAT day… and wrote us up on stuff that absolutely did not exist (cracked door in the fridge? Lies and more lies).
I started this review several years back but did not want retribution from management so I waited. Why did I stay? I wanted to move but not pay fees all over again.
I do not even know where to start.
Management is awful (so rude I had to be the one to deal with them so my husband would not lose it). Management is so disorganized it took 5 times for me to clear off my deck so it could get prepped and painted (not an insignificant job) and then the painters left big blotches of paint on the deck floor.
I just kept to myself living there lest the notes be left on my door all the time for god knows what. My deck was the nicest in the whole place, I did not ask them for much of anything, I did not have beater cars I left in one place for months on end — I was a good renter. My dog was loved by all who knew him. I took care of my place and rarely called for anything. I did my own carpet cleaning.
Maintenance guys are awesome, but that is it.
I could go on and on.
A very, very noisy place to live.
Do not die here. Yes, I said don’t die here. More than one person has said that one of the management staff will go in and steal items from the apartment if a person dies. We actually put up security cameras since we were gone on occasion because that is a completely believable claim. (that guy was let go or fired)
The good news? We moved.
Update. My husband wrote a letter to the parent company called TriVest in Texas and Cc’ed these yeh-​hoos. Now we are getting phone calls from them but since they lie so much we only accept emails and letters in the mail so it is a paper trail. Screw them telling us no walk through and get all our money back. Carpets are supposed to be freshly installed after just a few years so we should not have to deal with carpet stains (especially when there were none).
Back to the land of getting what is expected. Thank god.
