The new Jalapeño Helles Lager is outstanding. I thought it was going to be a over-the-top spicy beer, but it wasn’t spicy at all. The Bartender Steve was excellent. He was very informative and gave great suggestions. The happy hour cheeseburger and salad was an excellent value. Everyone was friendly and very helpful. I’ll definitely be back.

I’ll start off by saying this place is first and foremost a bar. The main attraction of this establishment is the beer and boy does it deliver. The entrees are good but a bit pricy. However, I most often use this restaurant as an evening hangout for beer and chowder. Something about a cold stout and warm fireplace that can’t be beat.

food was good, it was the service that was lacking. we went at lunch time mid-week, not too crazy at all. I was actually with the director of alumni and the staff knew who he was, so I didn’t expect the service to be so slow or inattentive. the atmosphere is great for being right in the middle of campus. seems like a lot of business goes through those doors daily. I had their patty melt with their chips and it was tasty… no complaints on the food at all. when it came time for the bill, it took 10 min to track down our waiter. once I received the bill, it was another 10 min to give him my card. it was not packed at all, just our waiter was nowhere to be found. don’t know if we will be back, it’s the location that brought us there in the first place.

Their online menu is wrong. On Dec 9th at around 6pm when I came to pick up my to go order it was twice the price as it was online. The rude waitress with shoulder length blonde wavy hair arrogantly told me I should have checked the online menu. The rude customer service is the reason I will not be returning to the Rouge Hall location.

Beer, alcohol, atmosphere and super friendly staff make Rogue a no brainier for a hang with friends on a lazy day. The food is hit and miss; stick with appetizers or burgers.

Nothing really special. Rouge has a track record of not having great PR with it’s brewery workers(anyone get a load of their want ads? yeeeikes!). I am under the impression that some of that trickles down to the service side of things too. Company culture is a fickle thing, and it is hard to be inclusive while explaining just how much cooler you are than all other people involved. However, in the few times I have visited, things were, well A-OK. Three star kind of place, and I am happy the review average reflects that. Some exceedingly surly people working there(again, is this how they are supposed to be? the whispers indicate, maybe, yes!) but also some people who are the above and beyond type. Beer is alright, little overhyped, and the food is a smidge less enthralling than the McMen’s a few blocks down.

The beer is adequate and the food is subpar. Come for the location, stay because you ordered your first drink before noticing how horrible the service is. Then cry into your soup-it will make it taste better and probably help one of the lack luster servers pay the slightest attention to you. Don’t get me wrong, they aren’t jerks, just horrible at their jobs.

Cool spot, nice dining room and patio. Food is not that great, at any location really. Especially for the price. Got the Fruit Punch cider, it was warm and bland. Staff is friendly and efficient. Wouldn’t recommend though.

Expensive but pleasant, the outdoor seating has picnic tables and umbrellas, and lots of space to move about. Didn’t hear any music outside, boring. It strikes me as a place the professors visit more than the students. Could absolutely do with a younger vibe as it is on campus. This could be accomplished with a more accessible happy hour, maybe a daily drink special or something. Also, there is no table service outside so you have to get to the bar, squeeze your way in, get the one bartenders attention and squeeze out without spilling your drink. C’man, make it easy, I’m not trying to get groped just trying to grab my beer. They have a «no phones» rule at the bar, which I think it’s pretty funny in a lame way. Again, c’maaan.

The location is great hence the two stars. The service was friendly but just adequate. The food was meh at best. Four dishes and not one was worth ordering twice. To top it off, one of our party left early to suspected food poisoning. I’d go to hang out on the patio for a drink but ordering anything other than a cider or beer won’t happen. No. I take that back. There are other patios with great service and food. I’d have to be convinced to make a second trip and that could be a tough task. After thinking about it, I dropped a star. The patio wasn’t worth two stars and why give anyone the impression that there might be a reason to visit. So many better places that are worth my time and money.

Back for the first time post-student. The beers are far above average, and the ~$ 5 per pint price point does not seem nearly as egregious as it did back in the day. Rogue beer is excellent.

First off, I have to say that I come to Rogue Hall weekly after my seminar. I have become well acquainted with most of the staff. The servers are genuine, helpful, and really just good folks all around. I really only come here because of the people. I could walk down the street to a different brew pub for cheaper beer and cheaper food, but I don’t because the fellows here are considerate. The beer is beer; the food is food. Recently, they rolled out a «new» menu, which isn’t really all that new. Same food. Same beer. What is NEW is the price. The prices for all of the offerings have been bumped up nearly THREEDOLLARS… for the exact same food. I usually get the Kobe Blue Balls, which used to be $ 6 and now they are $ 9. I would never ever pay that price for three meatballs and some blue cheese. Just because the food is now plated on a «fancy» plate, doesn’t justify the price increase. The mac-n-cheese went from 8.95(ish) to $ 11…come on people, it’s pasta. Also to my surprise, the beer is now $ 6 for a pint. That is absurd. While I won’t stop going to Rogue each week, I will stop spending as much money there because I don’t think the price increase is fair nor appropriate. Instead of two beers, I will get one – I will no longer order food there… I’d rather give that money in tips to the servers. And I am sure the servers didn’t get a wage increase, did they? And I am sure that the only reason they upped the prices was to pay for their new menu and change in their pockets. I think Rogue should reconsider their market considering that Rogue Hall is on a university campus… Not only that, I would be okay with a reasonable price increase IF they completely upgraded their food and everything was just better. But it isn’t. ***I have heard and have been witness to terrible service… this is generally the case when a server from the Pearl District pub comes up and serves. That location seems to have acquired to worst sort of service folks. I had one of those servers serve a friend and myself… the server called us «tricks» for getting our beers at the bar instead of waiting for her to come around. She wasn’t calling us «tricky» –she called us tricks. She was rude and incredibly distasteful. We wouldn’t have had to walk up to the bar if she would have stopped at our table one of the fifteen times that she passed us without asking if we had been helped.

55 minute wait for a Happy Hour cheeseburger and fish tacos at 10PM on a Monday night? What’s up? We even arrived before the event crowd and waited in an empty room for 30 minutes. I’ve had great service here before, so it’s up to two stars, but something definitely slipped tonight. Looking forward to editing my review with more stars in the future.

Incredibly unimpressed after my last visit. Here’s the story: A couple friends and I arrive for some beers and social time at around 6 on a Wednesday. The bar area was full, but the restaurant section was pretty sparse, so we motioned to the waitress that we were going to take a seat by the front door. She smiled and nodded. We assumed she understood that we were staying. Apparently she missed that memo, because after 20 minutes we had to find someone just so we could order drinks. After she finally came and took our drink order, my friends waited about another 20 minutes for their beer. I, on the other hand, did not receive the WATER that I ordered when she brought the beer. After another 15 minutes we decided to find a table closer to the action, since apparently they couldn’t remember that we were there. By this time, we hadn’t ordered food and I still hadn’t gotten my water. WATER. I nabbed a waiter(or manager?) that was walking by and asked when I would be receiving my water. His response? «Well, if you’re thirsty, the river is right over there; it has lots of water! Ha!». Um, okay, just bring me the water I ordered almost an hour ago. Had we not already settled into some work at that table, we would have just gotten up and left. When a customer is expressing a genuine concern about their experience, it’s best not to joke about it. Even if you’re trying to lighten the mood with humor, don’t. There is a time and a place, and that was neither. After a quick comment to the waiter about our waitress, she finally made her way over about 10 minutes later and took our order. Another 30 minutes later and we got our meals, which were salads. It took them 30 minutes to make 2 salads. Buh. Three hours after arriving, we decided to pack up and leave. The service was shittay, the food was«meh», the beer was supposedly«eh», and the sense of humor was lacking. I don’t know what happened to this place that night, but it was bad enough that I really don’t see myself visiting there again.

I was trying to grab lunch in between my classes at PSU today. I went in and asked for a glass of beer. I was given a pint. I don’t mind the extra beer but I wanted to avoid the ridiculous price. Whatever, I didn’t say anything and drank it anyways. The beer was delicious! I ordered the philly cheese steak with no green peppers and extra onions. I only had to wait about 10 mins before it came out but what I got was terrible! I didn’t have any onions on my sandwich. It was literally the worst philly cheese steak I’ve ever had. To top it all off the service was terrible. The server never asked me about my food and never asked me if I needed anything else. His demeanor was rude and rushed.

We arrived at Rogue Hall in the early afternoon one day while we were on vacation. We thought it would be bigger and more unique but still found it to be cozy and charming. We did not order food, so I can’t comment on that, but we did try several of their beers. We’ve had many of them before at home, but were happy to try them«from the source.» Everything tasted fresh and the bartender was knowledgable about all of the beers as well as the brewery’s history as a whole. The bartender, in fact, made our visit. He was friendly and engaging — he seemed to be as interested in learning about beers from our area in Pennsylvania as he was about sharing information about Rogue. And while he made us feel like valued guests, I think he was giving equal time and attention to the other patrons. Overall, it made for a very positive experience.

In years past, we’ve had absolutely terrible experiences at Rogue’s flagship brewpub in Newport, Oregon — I’m talking servers so incompetent or indifferent we walked out even though we were starving — so we were initially reluctant to give Rogue Hall a chance, fearing that it might be the same. Happily, our fears were unfounded. This is the second year we’ve had occasion to hang around the PSU campus due to our daughter’s holiday ballet performances, and each year, we’ve killed time by visiting nearby Rogue Hall on several consecutive days. The service has always been warm, friendly and, for the most part, efficient. The delicious food is fairly typical brewpub fare, with perhaps a greater emphasis on locally sourced and sustainable ingredients, which is appreciated. And, of course, the beer is pretty darn good as well. They have a lengthy tap list with a variety of styles to suit just about everyone, from easy-drinking lighter beers to big, bold brews that will satisfy the discerning hophead(that’s me). We love sitting next to their cozy fireplace on cold winter nights, and they have trivia every Wednesday, which is a lot of fun(although it can be difficult to hear the announcer over the often-noisy crowd). Even though it’s a bit out of the way for us, we’ve pledged to begin patronizing Rogue Hall throughout the year and not just at holiday time.

Since it was raining at the Farmer’s Market we ran for shelter in Rogue Hall. Luckily they had a nice fireplace that we could sit by. I was staying sober but my two friends wanted to grab a beer. The bartender was taking the orders. So when my friend said she wanted a dead guy he’s like: «No no no, you came all this way for a Dead Guy? You can get that anywhere. I’ll make you something special.» We all started laughing and he made her a chocolate hazelnut stout mix or something lol. It was delicious. The bartender was super cool, he made the trip to Rogue Hall. Went to the other Rogue in downtown, but like this one better since the ambiance was more relaxed here. We did come during the day which is why it seemed more relaxed. Loved the service.

This is a nice little bar settled on Portland State University’s campus right near Park Ave. in downtown Portland. Outside picnic bench seating(smoking ok), on-street parking, TV’s(inside), and a solid selection of beers. I’m pretty sure pets are welcome here too but double check, don’t quote the guy on Unilocal! When I first posted this message I said the food was just bar-food — wow was I completely wrong! Their burgers are to die for. The bun is a perfect balance of warmth and softness(no pun intended), and you can choose between regular or Kobe beef, which I had and it was phenomenal! In addition, there is a single piece of white melted cheese and two nicely smoke pieces of bacon. Everything is better with bacon anyways right?

Thank goodness my sisters are local & told me about this place. Day after Christmas pub crawl for my Brother-in-laws bday today. Rogue knows how to treat a birthday boy! Biscuit took awesome care of us & «the beer flowed like wine».(Ahh, the brilliance of Jim Carrey) $ 1 pint glass sale? What?! Best day after Christmas ever! I tried the 4 beer sampler and they were all deeeelicious. I like darker, fuller bodied, malty beers and there is quite the selection. Hazelnut Brown, oatmeal Stout, Chocolate stout. «Rogues are honest with themselves and others» and I’m tellin’ ya honestly, this place is great. Sit by the fire. I insist. Thanks Biscuit & Happy Birthday Hugh: D (Somehow I checked in here, but my review was on the other Rogue… hmm, good stout!)
