Safeway Food

Deli is really Hit –or– Miss. Some days Great, Others Just Bad. Use to eat lunch here sometimes 3 times a week. Food just got worse & worse. Better off eating at a gas station deli.

The nearby Albertson’s is better in a few was, you don’t need a store loyalty card to get the best price, and the prices at Albertson’s are better on several items. Safeway does open earlier and close later though.

Tonight my partner and I were at Safeway to buy some wood for our bonfire tonight. I went inside to retrieve a cart to put the wood into (the wood is kept outside). The cart locked on me while trying to take it outside while hitting back hard against my shin. Immediately started to bruise. I told a lady who worked there how startled I was that it locked on me and that it hit back and hurt my leg. She said «oh yeah they lock». Not even a question if my leg is okay, or do you need a manager?., my wife who works as a manager at New Seasons was appalled and asked to speak to a manager. She told him there should be a sign of sort regarding locking wheels, he said there was one but when he looked in the area there was not. She also talked to him about an accident form, etc. he came out and took some pictures of the «crime» scene. It really wasn’t a huge deal, I will be fine just a bit bruised and sore but what I really wanted to hear was we’re sorry, do you need an ice pack? What can we do to make you feel better? But alas nada. We bought our wood begrudgingly and left.

Updating to 4 stars (I’d give them 5 if they had more health and specialty items) due to the fact that the service at this Safeway is incredible. They are all truly concerned about the shopping experience of their customers, they take the time to get to know them, and they are a pleasure to visit each week. Great staff, seriously.

The pharmacy must be understaffed as they seem to be too busy all the time. The two times I went for a flu shot it took WAAAAY TOO LONG, perhaps 30 or 40 minutes. This year we went to RiteAid on 60^th and Cully and received our shot immediately. How refreshing! We may switch all our prescriptions over to the Cully, RiteAid.

Everything they carry costs less at Fred Myer and they are always understaffed. The one positive is that they are open when others are not. Avoid them unless it’s late.

1. Unable to add additional promo codes for free water & paper towels to order
2. Was told I needed to purchase paper towels and water and then refund would be issued in 3 – 5 days but was given misinformation because apparently I needed to call again after the order was placed to receive the refund
3. Items were delivered that I didn’t order
4. Items were not delivered that I did order
5. Ordered a pound of potatoes, received 1 potato
6. Spoke to the agent who insisted there was nothing she could do
7. Agent changed her answer and said she could schedule to have someone pick up mis delivered items same day but they could not deliver the items that didn’t arrive
8. Agent said I would need to go online and reorder the things I wanted (but didn’t receive) but that it would need to total $ 49
9. Agent changed the story and offered to refund me for the items delivered and that I was charged for but did not order
10. Spoke to a supervisor named Chris who gave me $ 5.00 off my next order for my «troubles»
11. Phone call totaled 50 minutes to finally have this fixed I asked the supervisor to sell me on why I should use this service again. After a long silence he said «I can not tell you to use the service it’s up to each person to decide that for themselves» …
I’m at a loss for words as to how or why so many things can go wrong on one order. I’ve never experienced such bad service or a lack of empathy when expressing frustration over multiple mistakes.
Good customer service is acknowledging an error and making it right.

What a better way to kick-​off my 2014 Unilocal reviewing than to review the place that satisfies my hunger day in and day out?
I’ve always been a Safeway fan. The regularly have the lowest prices, their Lucerne and Safeway brand items are good quality, you get lower priced gas at Chevron, and they are always friendly. In fact, I had a good 5 minute conversation with the lady at the deli about why the ham I was buying was the best because of low sodium! Come on, knowledge and friendliness all in one! And now that I moved to Northeast p-​town, this will be my regular spot.

It’s a Safeway. Nothing more, nothing less. However, would it kill them to specialize in anything (beer selection, produce, deli, etc.). I guess the thing that safeway has going for it is that mediocrity means security in the grocery business.

Open on Thanksgiving and 24 hours.
They have a starbucks inside.
If you don’t have a Safeway card, you can type in your Vons phone number.
They have everything you need from a grocery store.

2 stars for their hours… 1 star for their locatin… that is about it. Their produce sucks. I would rather go to Fred Meyer on Glisan for their produce. The bottle return area is poorly regulated and when someone like me returns bottles 5 times a year and not every day, they gave me a hard time about my large bag of bottles. Oh well. The deli has a nice selection. Decent for the wine/​beer selections as well.

Compared to other Safeways’, its amazing! Great staff. 24 hrs! Yet the house brands like O, Lucerne and Safeway Select are bland. Still the staff are likeable people of good character, and it is more like a convenience store than a family grocer.

This is a pretty good Safeway… way better than the one on MLK and Ainsworth! Never too busy, good amount staff and checkers and is clean. Its a good place to stop and grab a few things on my way home from work.

The associates in here are fantastic! They are supper friendly and helpful. Especially the ladies in the deli department. Thank you so much for your help

Being only 7 blocks from my home, I wish I loved this store. I have lived in the neighborhood for three years, and have tried repeatedly to give them another chance… only be disappointed again and again.
Some encounters that are vivid:
~ If something rings up incorrectly, the checker sends you to the customer service counter, and they can not do simple math and seem to hate their job.
~ I always bring my reusable grocery bags, and whoever is bagging is pissed they can’t just put one item in each plastic bag so you buy 10 things and have 8 bags to carry out. One time the bagger put my bread in first, then bananas, then apples and milk on top. Are you kidding me???
~ One day as leaving the store after having a really bi$@%y checker, the cart locked up right in the auto door. I was walking fast as I was irritated and talking to myself (something like ‘why did I come to this store, this store always sucks, I should have drove the 5 miles to another store’), so my shin hit the cart very hard when it locked up. So there I am holding back the tears from my injured shin fighting with a cart in the middle of the auto doorway, when a man comes up with the machine that unlocks the cart and does not say a word, just unlocks the cart and walks away.
Well that last incident was the last incident, and that was nearly a year ago. So the moral of my story is I stay FAR FAR away from this store, even though I pass by every single day. I generally drive instead of walk to Trader Joes or Grocery Outlet, or even Winco.
(Both my parents worked their careers for Safeway, 72 years between them, so I really want to like my neighborhood Safeway, but CANNOT!)

I live very close and come here all the time overall the selection is good and the store is clean that’s definitely a bonus! However the other day I went there and bought some Gerber graduates smart sips I believe they’re called when I got home I was going to fill in the mail in rebate on it and it ended in ’09 this caught my attention so I checked exp date it said February! !!! I called cs to tell them n they said they’d have someone check it and remove the rest. The next day I went in to return the one I had and they were still on shelf! On top of that the cs lady was so rude making me feel like she doubted I’d bought them yesterday even after I provided recipt. I just can’t believe their items provided for children haven’t been checked in over 5 months? I mean how long has it been for everything else? ???

This is my closest grocery store and I feel lucky to have it within walking distance.

— there’s a Starbucks inside (though it’s not 24 hrs)
— it’s clean and well kept
— the produce is decent for a Safeway
— they always ask me if I need help getting my groceries to my car
Safeway is definitely not the cheapest grocery store to shop, although with coupons I do well here. You must, must, must get a Safeway club card, it seems like most of what I buy is cheaper with one, and they’re free to have.
Also Safeway recently started doing e-​coupons that you load on your loyalty card and when you swipe it at checkout it applies the coupon to your purchase — no paper coupons required! How cool is that?

I am so lucky that this store just happens to be close to my house because I love it. You are spoiled for choice in almost every department, and the employees are extremely friendly — to the point that I think they only hire people who are. My mom was even surprised by that when she stopped there on the way to my house one day (her loyalties lie with TJ’s where they aren’t *as* nice and there is no comparison on selection of course… how does anyone manage to grocery shop only at TJ’s? Ask my mom.) I also think the prices are really good if you have a Safeway club card.
I read the reviews of the other Safeways on the east side of Portland, and the Sandy Safeway is panhandler free and feels safe when ever you go. You guys are great, don’t change!

I’ve been going here since I moved back from Philadelphia. It’s always clean and fully stocked with dry goods and fresh produce. I like the fact they expanded an aisle for Chinese and Spanish goods. It shows they understand their customer needs.
There’s always great deals, such as the 10 for $ 10. Very helpful for large families. Not sure how much a family can consume but 10 pounds seems about right.
I do have one request is that for them to turn down their thermastat by 10 degrees. It’s always seems a little more chilly then necessary. An elder woman asked me to put her salad into a plastic bag for her because she too was freezing. When I told the grocery person, he jokingly said its to help us shop more. Would be funny if an elderly person isn’t freezing too death.
Overall, the prices are reasonable and the best time to shop is Thursday since they receive the fresh produce on Wednesday and need a day to stock them.

Sooo much better than the Safeway on Broadway. We have stopped going to Broadway and drive out of our way to go to this Safeway. Everything is so much better. More meat selection, better quality of vegetables, newer layout and wider selection.
They don’t seem to have the pan handlers like the other Safeway where they were getting very pushy. Overall just a more pleasant experience shopping and we end up with much better food (comparing to the Broadway Safeway). Oh and they have a flat driveway so you don’t see people allowing the carts to roll downhill into someone else’s car. (really this happened on Broadway and the person didn’t care)
