The food, presentation, and staff of Sassafras have exceeded my expectations each time I have used them. The menu items are always crowd pleasers! Their menus also have a nice variety, a little something for everyone. Personally, their infamous tomato pie, and water chestnuts with bacon and brown sugar are my favorites. Knowing they use local and organic food is an added bonus to working with them. I LOVE working with Sassafras and can’t recommend them highly enough!

The following is from a review I wrote on the Montavilla Farmers Market that focused on Sassafras Catering. This market has Tomato Pies from Sassafras Kitchen( …). Ok, maybe I’m a bit biased. I’m friends with the owner of Sassafras, but if I didn’t dig her Tomato Pies, I would tell you the reader and her the owner about it. This is actually the first time I’ve had one of these pies and boy oh boy it won’t be the last time. Yum yum yum. I said yum sir!!! I’m told tomato pies are a southern food staple. Never had one in the south, but I’ve now had one in the Pacific Northwest. Here is the skinny. It is a 4 inch pie with a very light crust and loaded with tomatoes and Tillamook cheddar and topped with herbs, spices and caramelized onions. If you don’t like this pie, you don’t like America. I’ve also had the Organic Apple Chutney. I put that stuff on everything. Not sure if that is on offer now, but if it is, scoop some up.
