We’ve been coming to you since 1948. our family We’ve been very impressed with your service and food but on Sat June 11 it reversed. Our server tho friendly was in a hurry. We received our relish tray and salads and were about 1⁄3 through with them and here comes the entrée! Not an enjoyable situation the timing was way off. And to top that off our steaks we ordered med well and med. were very rare so we waited for server a while to send back to cook. table was so full of dishes it was difficult to eat. All of this has never happened before so we were kind of in a state of shock. To top it off. there weren’t that many patrons seated in dining area so really not a big rush for the server Just wanted to make you aware of this as I’m sure most people would have walked out Thank you and hope your servers get better

This was our first time here and I PROMISE it will not be our last! The fried lobster was off the hook! The fried halibut was unreal! The marinated beef tips was very yummy!!! No doubt we are making this a monthly or maybe even a bi weekly thing!

The«Old» in their name definitely stands out as the inside of this place is awful looking :(however the wait staff is actually good and the food is pretty much good too. I have tried several different menu items including the Porterhouse, Fillet Mignon, Prime Rib etc… It’s just good not great. Stained floors and sticky tables and seats really don’t do it for me. I have said countless times that I never want to go back but somehow I get duped into going back and I always try something new but I am never satisfied. Everything is bland and the steaks have an odd flavor. Way overpriced for what you’re getting but hey It’s food… Its just expensive food.

Service was so kind– my medium rare was a little too rare for me and was afraid to send it back because I didn’t want to «be that guy.» Not only did my waitress not bat an eyelash, but my plate came back with a new baked potato. Reminds me of dinner at my grandparents’ but with phenomenal steaks(juicy, tender, and flavorful).

We am writing this review, not because the steaks are so wonderful, but because we would go there because of one paticular waitress. We went there on 5÷31÷2016 and had the pleasure of enjoying what an outstanding waitress is really like. Her name is MINDI. Not sure of her last name. MINDI is so good, we would go there even if the steaks can sometime be mediocre.

My husband and I came to this place for dinner to celebrate our anniversary and had the filet mignon which was delicious! Our server was also very sweet by acknowledging our special day with a treat and she sang to us. We will be returning to this restaurant again the next time we visit Portland.

I decided long ago Id never go here again. Gross incentive for gorging on an unsustainable food. If u went there, send them the bill for your Colon procedure. You’ll need it. Legislative work was self serving, and disregarded needs of the poor. don’t support this kind of place please.

I loved this place the minute I walked in. It is a throwback from the 60’s and 70’s and somewhere every grandma and grandpa in a 20 mile radius come to once a week. Or after church on Sunday. Loved the steak shaped menu. My petite filet was very well done. I loved the relish tray that came out first. Bread was excellent and the onion rings were terrific. It is the only place I’ve been to that allows you a ¼ order of onion rings, and the order was massive. I can’t imagine what the whole order looks like. Great service, friendly. Just an all around wonderful experience!

I love Sayler’s! Classy yet casual. Sophisticated but not stuffy. The prime ribs are HUGE! Always cooked perfectly and served sizzling! The delicious traditional sides are great. The mixed cocktails are excellent. Service here is always fast and friendly. The place can sometimes get crowded. Request a table in the back bar area if you want a quieter place or if you’re on a date.

There is a reason this place has been here over 50 years! Amazing food! Fabulous service! Food is off the chain good! Yes… you will wait… many people love this place so don’t expect fast food! The lounge is great before your meal to wait with a beverage! Great bartenders! Seriously best prime rib in Oregon! I will visit again… this was our first visit! Yummy bread soft and warm! Ice cream served at the end! Coffee is amazing if you have a drive after your meal! For real… I’m super excited and so happy with our dining experience! Negative Nancy’s just need to stay home! We drove from Salem and was worth the drive!!!

Ally was our waitress– she was so very pleasant and professional. A very nice affordable steak dinner. *please note — they do not take reservations(perhaps for larger groups?) but not for just a couple people. Parking is plentiful, either in their lot or on the street.

OMG — Love Sayler’s, hands down my favorite restaurant in Portland; and a long standing family tradition for celebrating! Been coming to Sayler’s for over 25 years now, not much has changed; aside from their prices — and I love it just the way it is! Got to celebrate my Dad’s Birthday tonight — with my Mom & Dad(the worlds greatest parents, I’m a blessed man). I ordered the 8oz Tenderloin, with a baked potato, soup and peppermint ice cream to top it all off; a meal fit for a King(or in this case just me). Will continue to go here until the day I die; in fact if I had a last meal in this life I would want it to be here, at Sayler’s!

Surprisingly good experience. Prime steak was great, lobster tasted good and was fully pulled out of the shell(maybe a bit small though), beef soup, oyster shooter, crab cocktail were awesome! After meal icecream was excellent. Only negative was that I didn’t like the way the veggies were presented with my lobster. They were real bland.

Yes, this is as old school as it gets, and yes I have been coming here since childhood. In fact, my middle school, Floyd Light, is just two blocks down on Stark, and my childhood home is just a few blocks up and off of Stark. Oh yeah, here’s more ancient history: my brother and cousin(6’5″ and 6’6″ respectively) participated in the 72-ounce steak challenge and were successful(not something they could do now, but in the day those boys could eat). Their names were on a plaque for a few years there in the restaurant, but I didn’t see that last night; should have asked. Ron and I came here last night craving a great steak and all the trimmings. Neither Morton’s or Ruth’s Chris Steak House was in the budget, but that simply didn’t matter. We wanted what we wanted. We had the 8-ounce filet mignons. Lovely tasty tenderer meat you couldn’t have asked for(«buttah»). I honestly haven’t seen a near-naked iceberg lettuce salad in some years, but it’s part of the deal, and we ate it with real pleasure. What do you say about the onion rings. They stay crisp and tasty throughout. Of course, there’s the relish plate with ranch dip. The baked potato was as good as I remembered as well. A scoop of ice cream was a nice end to the meal. They used to serve tomato juice, but there was none last night. The Sayler family knows about service. It was friendly and welcoming. We were warned about the plates being hot. We didn’t have to ask for anything because it was all provided or already on the table. These folks have this down to a science, but never make it look robotic or uncaring. Everything is immaculately clean. It was a Tuesday evening and very busy, but the restaurant had plenty of room inside or in the parking lot. It really doesn’t matter what you want in terms of your experience at Old Country Kitchen. You can make of it what you want. I enjoyed the comfort of being in a familiar place with an excellent and reliable dinner. In this day and age’s ever-changing Portland dining environment, I love the fun and variety of that, but sometimes you just can’t beat the tried and true like Sayler’s Old Country Kitchen.

I heard about the 72 oz. challenge and had to come. So I ordered the 72 oz. steak… er… no I did not! No way. But, a guy at the booth next to us did. The waitress brought it right by our table so we could take a look at it. i don’t know how anyone could take that thing down yet… 13 women have done just that. But I digress… Upon arriving, and seeing a huge parking lot with nooooo spaces, I knew we were in the right place. They actually have a security guard /parking official! We got lucky as a space up front opened up. We arrived at around 6:30 on Thursday night. Just 2 of us and there was a wait of 20 minutes. Hostesses were very friendly and they have a long bench that wraps around the walls so you can sit while you wait if you choose. To the food. We ordered a half order of onion rings which 2 bug guys could not take down. They were well battered with lots of flavor and tasty onions. A winner. I ordered the«New York Cut» 15 oz. medium rare with a baked potato. My dinner mate got the 16 oz. ribeye cooked medium with fried scallops. The fried scallops were a meal in and of itself! My steak was cooked perfectly. I must say, it was quite fatty for a strip. Normally, when I get a strip, there is nothing left on my plate. But, I had about 10% left after the meat was gone. The baked potato was very good and the sour cream tasted homemade. My buddy loved his steak and he said the scallops were perfect. Highly recommend. Just wish that Strip had less fat.

Do you remember the steak challenge scene from the Great Outdoors? The Home of the Old 96er. Well it is apparently an actual thing, though reduced slightly to the 72 ouncer at Sayler’s. I was both horrified and intrigued by this challenge. I’m sure there’s a skinny girl out there somewhere who could polish it all off and still fit into her high school prom dress. Bitch. The Bud and I ventured into Sayler’s on a lark, and we ended up dining in the lounge rather than the restaurant. There was a noticeable and welcomed absence of little ones in the bar area, which sealed the deal for us. The main dining room was a bit of a mob scene that included baby strollers, canes and walkers. So many walkers. We prefer our meal among video lottery machines, club chairs, and an air of what might have been. In the end, the steak was delicious, the potato(unloaded) a disappointment, the lobster tail forgetful, the cole slaw a tangy surprise. They really nailed that steak, though. I mean, really. I would honestly go back for that.

For now, I give this place 2 stars. I will go back and will hopefully give more stars. I really love the idea of this place. If you order dinner here you get a WHOLE dinner. They start with a platter of crudite and a delicious dip. Then you get warm potato bread with butter and garlic butter dip. Then you get a salad!!! It is just an iceberg salad but its ok. Then you get your main meal, which comes with a potato. Finally, you get ice cream or sherbet for dessert. My filet mignon was chewy. Really chewy. I could have made a much better steak at home. My buddy could barely chew his at all. Mine may have been freezer burned. Not sure. Good people watching here. I hope if(and when) I go back I get a better steak.
