Sebago Brewing Company

Only came here for happy hour drinks and an appetizer, so can’t speak to a majority of the food, but the hummus and tzatziki plate we ordered was awesome. Warm pita, fresh veggies, and a hearty helping of both dips. The rest of their happy hour menu is pretty good, and the beers were great as well.
It’s a very big, ample place with tons of room for seating so that’s not a problem at all. You can pretty much pick wherever you want to sit; the two of us had a big booth to ourselves and still had perfect views of the rest of the restaurant/​bar/​tvs. A great place to come by in the early evening for a drink to watch the game.
Would come again!

I’ve got to give Sebago credit for the way they handled our situation last night. I was with a large party (~14 people) and we had reservations at 8pm. We actually didn’t get seated until around 9pm because of another party that was still sitting at our reserved tables. Apparently that group of people had been there since 4:30. They had paid their bills and were just hanging out. My husband actually watched as a few of them put on their jackets and then sat back down. Sebago’s management was very apologetic and immediately provided us with 3 – 4 appetizers on the house once we did sit down.
We hung out at the bar while we were waiting for our tables. I can’t tell you why I chose to first order a cocktail instead of a beer, but their version of a Moscow Mule was extremely sugary. I felt like I was drinking a hangover. My sister-​in-​law also had a cocktail that was extremely sweet. I’m glad I made the switch to beer. Lesson learned.
I was actually impressed by the menu. I was able to order a semi-​healthy salad, although the falafel was a bit underwhelming. I did have a great tall IPA which was delicious and made me happy.
Also, I can’t believe how strongly the bathroom smelled of french fries. It was like stepping into a fryolator.

Good location with ample parking. The venue has plenty of space for private events a decent bar menu for dinner. Good beer selections brewed by themselves, nothing outstanding but solid beer. The restaurant and bar area has a bit of a manufactured feel as it is underneath a hotel, so it doesn’t have the charm of some of the other restaurants and locations in the city. Still a good location for a hang out or pre-​dinner drink.

Great Rueben fresh cut Corned Beef sorry phone was left at the hotel. Wings as an app were great tasting and full of meat just didn’t care for the 3^rd joint left on because it became a mess to eat. But solid food all around. Next visit is the Black Bean Burger that was also recommended.

This is our go-​to for late night food or a quick 20oz beer. I’d recommend this place for large parties or a decent bar atmosphere.

Sebago is located in what feels like (probably because it is) the bottom of a hotel. the beer is awesome however, and even though the atmosphere is a bit clinical and hotel bar feeling, it has a little brew pub cred with the fermentation tanks. Service was nice but a little weird, and very quick. Dogs are allowed at the outside. The menu isn’t huge but has a nice normal list and a few rotating seasonals which were very tasty. For a small brewery, Sebago has some great beer and sitting outside with one on a nice day is just perfect.

**Gluten-​free options
My husband and I stopped into Sebago for lunch while vacationing in Portland two weeks ago. There were a good amount of customers at the inside tables and around the bar, but it wasn’t too crowded or noisy — just right. The staff was friendly, and our waitress was excellent! I would go back.
Finding gluten-​free options at restaurants can be tough, but Sebago has GF options clearly outlined on their menu. :) I ordered «The Smokestack» burger on a GF bun with a side of zucchini (the waitress was proactive in informing me the fries had a wheat coating). The burger was excellent! My husband was undecided on what he wanted, so he ended up going with «The Burger» (chef’s choice/​special). «The Burger» was meatloaf on a bun with marinara and mozzarella — surprisingly great! He also ordered a flight of beer. He liked them all, but the Lake Trout Stout was his favorite (of the 8 beers on tap at the time).

When people suggest going here, I go, «really?» I’m one of these people that wants to go to a local one of a kinda place with 4 or 5 stars on Unilocal that excels at whatever they put on the menu whether it’s a burger or sushi or a filet mignon, OR basically just bring me to something like Applebee’s. Okay, literally Applebee’s. If you’re going to go to a place with a wide spanning menu where you know you’re best off getting a cheeseburger or a random pasta dish, at least you know what you’re getting at Applebee’s (in my case, the sampler platter.) My expectations of sebago were pretty much met the last two times I visited butttttt the most recent time I went (where we had no other option running with a party of 17) I was pleasantly surprised! My quinoa bowl was excellent! Like really excellent! I mAy just come back for this menu item. I can’t give this place more than 3 stars because even in comparison, it’s nothing to write home about. But it’ll do!

When I lean back in my rocking chair, after a hard night of drinking I think to myself, «I’m really glad I went to Sebago Brewing company before I came home because I would be feeling much worse right now!»
They have a great (late night or regular time) happy hour bar menu (5 $ per dish, WOW!) Their potato nachos are awesome and gigantic. My favorite is the pork dumplings, which always burns the roof of my mouth because I am so excited to eat them, I never let them cool off.
On Mondays they have a beer and pint special for 10 $. I went there tonight and was a little dismayed by their announcement of no longer having pretzel buns for their burgers. They were SO good!
On Monday night they also have pub trivia starting at 7. It’s great for a group of people with a varied range of knowledge. Get there a few minutes early to get a seat.

This was a great evening ender. Probably went three times.
Good beer, nice fish/​chips, crab cake. Not the «be all end all» for fresh seafood, but great pub food, and Sebago beer is good. (Especially Wednesday with $ 3 beer specials).
We toured Old Port, stayed in the Hampton Inn (which allows direct access to this pub/​restaurant) and had some nice beers and some food outside.
Cannot complain at all!

Sebago had the best overall experience as far as breweries directly in downtown Portland. They are a fully established restaurant, have tons of daily specials and have a great beer selection. I think for a local this could be a four star establishment, but if you’re a tourist on a beer tour of Portland, stop in for a drink or two [try to hit them during happy hour] and sit at the bar. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a little drab but they do have lot of windows and a huge bar area. The Frye’s Leap IPA is a solid IPA and if you really want something to pick you up a notch try the Whistle Punk Double, delish! I can’t vouch for the food and the service was okay but they do have pretzel sticks at the bar to munch on. Overall, a good beer stop on your tour for an hour or so.

I Ordered a Caribbean Turkey sandwich with sweet potato fries and a total blonde glass of beer. The sandwich totally failed because the chef did not know what he/​she was doing in the kitchen. The item was suppose to have a spread of chutney which apparently the kitchen didn’t have on hand so instead they substituted a glob of honey on the bun for the chutney. Not the best choice. I ate the slice turkey, sweet potato fries & drank the beer but will never ever eat there again.

Came here for lunch. I had the lobster roll with fries. Generous lobster portions in the roll. It was simple but delicious. Also had a few bites of the lobster club. The lobster and bacon combination was great. Service was quick and friendly.

There are mostly pros for me. The fact that they’re part of a local brew pub chain, not just a bar that serves the fruits of other breweries labor, and there’s a fairly simple and solid selection of beer to keep a variety of taste buds happy. Their food, while not the imaginative fare you’ll see at some of the neighboring restaurants, still lends itself more to gastro pub, than just fried comfort pub food, particularly as it’s a place friendly to differing dietary preferences and restrictions, if that’s your thing. They also serve food late into the evening! I’ve always found the staff to be efficient, accommodating and personable. There are loads of booths, which is always a favorite, outside seating in fine weather, and there’s still a lot of space to host groups.
There’s really just one major con for me — that if you’re looking for somewhere to meet for business, or simply take a working lunch on your own, and need to have Internet access, there’s a ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ shot that the WiFi there isn’t going to work. Something about the Internet at the hotel causing issues, as they have a stronger signal I was told. I won’t pretend to know enough about how that all works to measure that statement, but, it was unfortunate to have to relocate my meeting elsewhere as WiFi was essential and unavailable. My server did offer to reset it, but advised it was unlikely to work, which was correct.
This won’t stop me from coming in for leisurely beverages, snacks and meals, when the last thing I want to be is in front of an electronic device, but it’s going to put a halt on any professional work getting done here.

This is a good bar and restaurant attached to the Hampton Inn (where I was staying). It was cold and wet outside for a few days while there so it was great to just come down for a drink, sandwich, and dessert. This is one of the few places that serves food past 10 also. The bartender was vey good at keeping everyone filled with food and drinks at the bar.

Sebago never disappoints! If you are looking for a well priced meal, with variety, good beer, and great service, Sebago should be your go to. I recommend the hummus and pita bread to start. It is melt in your mouth delicious.
Other good items are their waffle cut fries, veggie quesadilla, and burger. The food is always consist and delicious. Also, they have great daily specials on drinks and a good happy hour.

I hate writing bad reviews. Six of us came in for a night cap before retiring to our hotel after a wonderful day in Portland. We waited 15 minutes for waters after requesting them. I have been in the restaurant business and no, it wasn’t busy. We finally got them and thought about getting the check but decided to get another round and dessert. 20 minutes later after ordering with no pie, the waitress asked if everything was ok and we asked about the pie. The waitress snipped and insincerely smiled and said said it was on its way. We let the manager know who was equally cool. Long story short, for the first time in 51 years, I did not leave a tip which is usually 20−25%. What a big dissapontment.

Beer pro tip: take places that label themselves as a «brewing company» with a grain of salt. If you’re coming here for the best of the best beers, you won’t find it. They’re beers are pretty good, but its a brewpub, NOT a brewery. Got it? Good. With that in mind, I was here for the food and it was really great.
We stayed at the Hampton which is where the restaurant is attached. We actually came here twice because the food was so good and it was cold and we didn’t feel like going back out. The first night we started out with the Spinach and Artichoke dip. That was really good. It was nice, warm and creamy. For dinner, I had the bacon mac and cheese. It was some of the best I’ve ever had. It was a pretty big portion but I ate it all because I was super hungry and it was delicious.
My husband had the Maine Jumbo Lobster Roll. You never know how much meat you get on these sandwiches, but this thing was packed with lobster. I typically don’t like seafood but even I wanted some of it. Definitely no skimping here. The second night I had the crab cake appetizer as my dinner. Like I said, I don’t typically like seafood, but I can tolerate crab cakes. They were a bit burnt but still good. My husband had the haddock and said it was good as well.
We didn’t see our waitress as much as we would have liked, but overall, we had a great experience both times and I would suggest going if you’re looking for a relaxing, yet still nice place to eat.

This is probably my favorite brew pub in the Old Port. They have a fairly solid menu of food with options for everyone. I prefer to eat from the appetizer menu because my favorite will always be the potato nachos. I don’t know why, but I always get them. If that’s too much, try the pub pretzels with honey mustard dipping sauce. They are giant pretzels and made for sharing with others.
I’ve never had a bad beer experience here. They are always adding new beers to their menu and switching up the seasonal offerings. I’ve been hooked on Long Sleeves for awhile. It’s a German Altbier that has a dark color with a nutty aftertaste to it. I’m really sad that Sebago seems to have stopped producing the Hefeweizen. I considered it to be the flagship beer of their summer line. It’s tasty and cloudy like a Hefeweizen should be. I can’t fathom why they stopped doing it.
The parking situation is a little tough sometimes. They are located on the edge of the Old Port and street parking is the only option. Depending on the season and the day, finding a spot can be tricky or downright impossible. I really enjoy the outdoor seating areas in the summertime. They have umbrellas if you don’t want to get baked by the sun.
Come for Trivia on Monday nights starting at 7pm. It’s fun and doesn’t last all night. I think we were out of there by 9:30pm the other night. First place wins a $ 25 gift card to Sebago so that’s something cool to strive for!

Our last night in Portland we were looking for a place that wouldn’t be packed/​crazy. Sebago is located inside the Hampton Inn (or Courtyard; I honestly cannot remember). Aside from some diehards playing Monday trivia, the place was empty. Service was A-​OK; nothing to complain or write home about. Food was your usual pub selections with a few items thrown in as «local» fare (i.e. lobster quesadillas).
Appetizer: calamari in spicy sauce. Menu described it as a dipping sauce. Came out as a soup — in a tomato-​based broth with a ridiculous amount of onions. I enjoyed the dish, though it really should have been advertised as a soup rather than a dipping sauce.
I sampled one of the pub burgers (combined with a beer for a $ 10 Monday night special) — Brewhouse Classic, with bacon and cheddar, served on a pretzel roll. Not the best burger I have ever eaten, but also not the worst. The beef was from a farm not 20 miles away (slight upcharge), tender but not so juicy that you could not enjoy the burger. The pretzel roll made the burger, even though the bacon was slightly under-​cooked. I opted for sweet potato fries which was a nice addition. My dining partner chose the lobster quesadilla, of which I had a few bites — again, no special flavor or anything that stands out.
I will say the beer was well worth the $. I do not see it listed on the menu, and it was rung up as a Red Ale, but it was a session ale — cross between red ale and a rye. Went down smooth and had some great flavor. Great combination with the burger; a hat tip to the server for her recommendation.
We were able to converse and watch the Monday night NFL tilt and escape the place with a bill just under $ 35. Not bad considering some of the trendier places in Portland that we passed up to dine here. A solid 3-​star experience.
