Pure Goodness. I had their Breakfast Sandwich. It was the first listing, Bacon, Egg, Cheese, a bit of greens-nice touch. I was very impressed by the muffin. Unlike any I’ve indulged in. It was a beautiful lite brown, a good amount of fluff, balanced by good, buttery crust. I sat at the counter and sipped some Joe while I waited. It’s like a lunch counter/diner type atmosphere. About four beer taps and pretty expanded menu of some eclectic sandwiches and salads. I know I just barely dipped my toe into their offerings. Start simple, I say. Chicken Fried Sandwich — NEXT, perhaps. Their coffee is local, Cellar Door. I don’t know the blend, but it was medium bodied and really satisfying — enough for a repeat cup. I helped myself to a second cup. Seems reasonable as the canister was out for self-serve. Great extra space for events, too with a large TV screen. No-nonsense and Delicious.

One of the first places I tried after moving to the area. Delicious sandwiches, shoestring fries, and day old discount baguettes!

I was hungry yesterday and was OK with diner food so I stopped there. WOW! I had no idea this place is one of those magical places that have made Portland into foodie heaven! I had a butternut squash sandwich with egg and arugula, plus a side of homemade applesauce also with butternut squash. The fresh baked muffin they wrapped around the sandwich was enough reason by itself to come back. This is going to be a regular place for me now!

Meatballs that are too herby can ruin a sub. Overpower it. When I was served this meatball sub, it was my immediate reaction. Oh boy here is an overdone herby meatball sub. The sub even had herbs sprinkled on top of the sub as if to say, «yeah we are going full fucking herb here buddy, strap in for this» These guys. These, these crazy risk takers, are walking the herb tightrope 10,000 feet in the air. And how are they doing it? With some majestic marinera sauce. And they say to you handing you this sub, «look at this herb storm I’m gonna throw you into. But here is a cup of stellar marinera sauce. Your life raft in this herbicane» This sauce is subtle, complex, and perfect for this sub. It has a flash of spice. Just when it hits your tongue but no lingering spice. It is an absolutely perfect compliment to the herb meatballs. This dichotomy is a masterpiece. I would talk about the bread, but I’ll leave that to the reader in an exercise in surprise joy.

Great place! My girlfriend and I went in for a nice lunch, and I was pleasantly surprised by the moderate prices. We both got paninis, mine was the deli sandwich. It was incredible, lots of flavors exploding in my mouth with each bite! Love the beer selection too! Had a glass of the 13 Virtues IPA and it was exquisite! Definitely keeps the ‘weird’ Portland vibe, but I like it!

I came here on a full stomach, so my opinion of the Philly may be somewhat skewed. It was really good, but would have been better if there was something added to cut through the rich greasiness. Maybe I should have ordered it with hot peppers instead of sweet? Atmosphere and service were excellent.

Another place to go if you’re super hungry, and looking to get a food coma after. Sandwiches are stuffed with ingredients, making for a very filling meal. I tried the chicken cacciatore, and I struggled to finish the other half. Happens every time. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Pretty decent at least since it basically tasted like a chicken pizza. Not complaining there. Oh, while it seems like the 2 halves of a sandwich are basically 2 sandwiches, value-wise you’re getting a fair amount for the money. Anyway, not only does the name of the place get you to do exactly what it tells you to do, its also got a menu of some sandwiches worth giving a shot. Split with a friend if you’re reasonably hungry, but not looking to get uncomfortably full. Fries are OK here. Friendly folks working here at least, so the service aspect of this place gets a thumbs up from me. Try this place at least once.

Get this: I went to a restaurant in Portland where even though I ordered at the counter, they brought me my food and bussed my table. They were even super friendly to me at the counter. All of this, and from a place named Shut Up and Eat? I felt like I was in some alternate dimension where customer service mattered. I plan to get back there, and soon. Let’s talk about the food. This is first and foremost a sandwich place, with a couple of salads thrown in for good measure. My lunch buddy and I both ordered a panini, mine with charred tomato, roasted chicken, provolone, spinach and basil pesto. It was supposed to have mushrooms, but I took them off, because mushrooms are an abomination. Priced at only $ 6.75 — a few bucks less than any of their other sandwich categories, I was worried that the paninis would be small, but instead they’re pretty dang huge. It’s a meal unto itself, though I did go ahead and order the homemade applesauce, today served with butternut squash. That seemed to me an odd combination, but it worked out well. Very tasty! They have ample seating, including a decent-sized side room that you can rent out for parties and such. I don’t know that I’ll be throwing any parties at Shut Up & Eat, but since they pump out tasty food at a reasonable price, all while being good human beings/restaurant employees, I’ll be back for lunch and soon.

Shut Up and Eat is home to my current favorite sandwich in Portland, the Broad St. Bomber. The name itself is of course a homage to the major street in Philadephia which alludes to what you can expect; and boy does this massive meat-wich deliver. The steak is chopped into pieces that at *just* the right size. With a Philly cheese steak, this is highly important as massive chunks pain to eat, while tiny bits and pieces just kind of disintegrate. The cheesey goodness is evenly melted throughout, and I highly recommend getting hot and sweet peppers in order to set it off a bit. Sweet, spicy, savory, so much yes. I’m not sure what exactly they’re doing to the shoestring fries. But it’s really good, and you should eat them. My girlfriend and I easily split an order between the two of us. Their staff is also very friendly, bringing your food and any condiments out to the table, as well as letting it be known that they’re available. Lastly, the ambiance is very causal without feeling divey at all. As far as returning, I’ll have a problem coming back too often, as opposed to not at all!

Shut Up and… Take my money. Seriously. This place is bomb. Speaking of which, get the Broad St Bomber and you won’t regret it! It’s one of those sandwiches where you are convinced that somehow each bite is better than the last. Everything is fresh — the bread, the veggies, even the salad! I enjoy every visit at this place and plan on trying as many items on the menu as possible over time. This place has 4.5 overall stars for a good reason. Go here. Right now.

It’s worth it. Trust me, it’s just worth it. Everything I tried there was delicious. I went with a big group so I was able to get a bite of a couple of different sandwiches and sides… and it was allll good. The sandwiches that my boyfriend and I shared, the meatball sub and the Broad St. Bomber; probably 2 of the most popular sandwiches on the menu, but for GOOD reason! these were SO good. we shared a side of the shoe string fries and they were an awesome addition to our sandwiches. These sandwiches are very well-portioned as well, so you won’t be leaving hungry. Must…go…back…

When I did my research before visiting Portland, I saw one restaurant with the audacity to tell me to «Shut Up and Eat». Accordingly, I needed to test any place that has the gall to make such a bold statement. When someone or something cannot back up what they say with substance, they are cocky. When they can, they are just being confident rather than cocky. I can definitely say this restaurant is simply confident because it can back it up. The waitress noted that the meatball sub and Broad Street Bomber(cheese steak) are their most popular sandwiches. I ordered the meatball sub and it was one of the best I have ever eaten. The meatballs and sauce were both phenomenal. The French fries were also great. For these reasons, Shut Up and Eat are at the top of my list of recommendations for Portland. I don’t get it. I just don’t. I mean, the sandwiches are fine, mine was really bad(the worst Italian grinder ever) but my lunch buddy really liked her sausage and pepper sandwich. The fries were fine, the macaroni salad was fine. Seriously, what’s the big deal about this place? I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here if I were you, and I would probably drive right past to find a different place if I was out that way again.

PSSST! Hey. You there! Want to know a little secret? Shut Up and Eat has great, big, greasy, over-the-top sandwiches. Everyone knows that, right? Well guess what? They make a pretty mean salad, too. Okay, okay… I know. A secret about salads isn’t so sexy or salacious, but I’ll tell you what… the salads are good. I honestly expected the non-sandwich options here to be an afterthought. Why? Well, a lot of places put 110% into their main event items, and build out the rest of the menu to simply satisfy the niche desires of +1’s, hangers on, or people who don’t understand what they really should be ordering. The investment isn’t there. And then there’s me. I don’t show up at steak restaurants expecting vegetarian fare, or vice versa. But I quit eating things between bread, wrapped in tortillas, or otherwise built out on starches. So I’ve been limited to these oft-boring salad and soup menus. And while normally I’d hit up SU&E for their bomb-diddly-omb sados, I am super glad I tried out their salad menu. Specifically the Caesar, which is only a Caesar in name. This thick mess of goodness is based around spinach with a creamy dressing, sliced zucchini and croutons. Chicken add-on is a must, and they use a nice, moist pulled chicken for that(no dry-ass grilled breast). Oh, and their chili? It’s tasty. I’ve been driving past this joint and shedding a single tear ever since I switch my diet and nixed the sandwiches. But now I know. The secret is out. I can grab a baller salad here instead. And I’ll be back much more often.

Love the name of this joint. Along with the great name, Shut Up and Eat makes you want to do just that… eat! The Italian sandwiches are ridiculously packed full of meat and pickled veggies. It’s a sandwich that requires a fork and knife. They make their own English muffins, which they stuff with bacon, egg and cheese. Look out for their special sandwich of the day. You won’t be disappointed.

Honestly Very good sandwiches. All options seem To provide you with lots and lots to eat. You will not leave here hungry. This is a great place to Grab a lunch with a possible lucky lady or a good place grab a dinner prior to going home and vegging out on Netflix. The world is your oyster obviously. With some many places on the east side this is for sure one you need to check out and enjoy. I will be back for sure when my tummy gets the grumbles.

There’s always a place on Unilocal that you check before going out to eat… the reviews are great, pictures look good, and their stars are high. This is what I found with Shut Up and Eat. I was going to Portland to spend the day shopping and was checking Unilocal for days to find a new place to eat. No matter what restaurants I looked at, I came back to this one. Eagerly, we drove to Portland and I could not wait to eat! When we got there the place was busy but we were able to find a seat right after we ordered. I was excited that a sandwich shop also had cocktails, so I made sure to order one of those, my boyfriend as well. He got the cheesesteak, I got the meatball sub, and we shared some fries. Everything we ordered was just… «eh». Nothing I ate was special. I just felt so disappointed. My initial thought brought me back to all the great reviews on Unilocal and I thought to myself, how in the heck did I get so unlucky?! I imagine that I might have just ordered the wrong thing, came on the wrong day, or perhaps this place just wasn’t for me.

«Shut up and eat with me!» She said, «Ooh-ooh-hoo, Shut up and eat with me!» This is a no-nonsense place. Step into a rock music filled diner ambiance where having tattoos seems to be a requirement for working as a server. Looking for something healthy to eat? Get out now. The wifey and I shared the following: Broad St. Bomber($ 9.75) — 5 stars: Half a pound of thinly-sliced eye round steak, with onions, cheddar, provolone and peppers. This PDX version of a Philly cheesesteak will bomb your mouth with flavor and is sooo worth the subsequent trip to the cardiovascular surgeon. Steak and Eggs($ 6.75) — 3.5 stars: Eye round steak, onions, pickle, provolone, cabbage and a fried egg served on a Kaiser roll. Unfortunately the steak was overcooked, and this wasn’t quite the flavor explosion as the Bomber; perhaps that’s why it’s 3 bucks cheaper. Corn Chowder($ 3.50) — 4 stars: Crunchy corn and other veggies in a crisp chowder topped with parsley. I guess this is your healthier option! The soup was quite flavorful and not overly salty. Next time we come back, it’s going to be one Bomber for each of us. Shut up about your heart, and eat! Go hit up the trails at Forest Park afterward if you are so inclined.

I have passed this place so many times and wanted to try it. Mostly cause I like the name(it’s what I wish I could say to my kids at mealtime). I had to go and try their Broader Cheesesteak, and today was the day. It’s a place where you order at the register with a very nice SUAE-er and then grab a seat. The sandwich is a delicious hot cheesy mess. The steak is juicy and amply topped with cheese and peppers. The bread was perfect for the sandwich, crispy on the top but doesn’t fall apart. If you’re hungry, feel a bit down, maybe hungover or just want a good juicy sandwich, get this! It’ll fulfill all your needs. Did I mention the sandwiches were huge? The atmosphere is perfectly casual and fits their menu and name. Everyone working seemed focused on doing a great job and they succeed!

I’m drooling even before I start writing this review… Honestly, the name of the restaurant made me do a double take as I was Unilocaling for places to eat in Portland but when it had close to 400 review w 4.5 stars my friends and I had to try it. And damn that was the best decision ever!!! You literally just want to shut up and eat your food… LOL :) Broad Street Bomber is the BOMB!!! It’s their version of a cheese steak sandwich. Honestly not a fan of cheese steak. Usually it’s overly cheesy with crappy meat. But the BSB is seriously so good that my friends and I ended up ordering another one to share. They have the right amount of cheese in combination with the steak and bread. The steak wasnt dried out and it was tender and of good quality. I didn’t get that cheap meat taste that I get at some places. The bread wasn’t dried out but at the same time it didn’t get soggy over time. We got a combination of their spicy & sweet peppers since we didn’t know what to get and it was really good. We also tried their Chicken & Cacciatore which was very good as well. The chicken was tender and moist and the sandwich was just plain delicious. But if you had to get something for the first time at Shut Up and Eat it has to be their Broad Street Bomber! I mean the C&C was good but it did not compare to the BSB for me. We also got their Tomato Bisque Soup which was just ok and a order of fries to share. The fries were nice and crisp but a little on the salty side which we didn’t mind because we had just come back from hiking. The service was good. The girl at the counter was friendly and nice along with the people that delivered our food to our table. Overall a very friendly and relax place. I will definitely be back for the BSB if I’m ever in Portland again! :)
