The food at Sila is fine, but beware if you are a vegetarian or have an allergy to fish. We ordered a dish marked«(V)» on the menu. When it came I asked, just to be sure, whether it had fish sauce. Not only does their«vegetarian» food contain fish, but when we asked about it the owner took no responsibility and tried to make it our fault that we didn’t ask for the vegetarian dish to be prepared vegetarian, didn’t offer to remake the food, and was even rude about it. We won’t be going back.

They’re back, after a 5 month hiatus! Hot-dog!(actually, those are a couple of carts over in this court, and the owner of said doggie cart saw fit to bless me w/a free sampling of their chili while I waited in the rain. Huge karmic points for that sweet lady!) Sila is some pretty darn good Thai eats, in a city at this point by no means lacking in Thai eats. I usually go for the hot spicy soups, with or w/o the cocunut milk, and usually prawns, though chicken is also available, and I think tofu as well. If you drink the liquid out first, you’ll see an amazing array of ingredients still fillngover half the bowl— onion, ginger, garlic, carrot strips, and of course spice(though their 5 star spicy is what I’ve experienced in many other places’ 3 – 4 star range). So glad to see this sleepy little pod awakening after a very long winter slumber! PS: Pumpkin curry— if you are undecided about what to get from Sila, you won’t go wrong with their pumpkin curry, it is a proven winner and we love it!

I think we just found our new favorite Thai Food Cart in Portland, maybe the best Thai overall. We’ve tried a handful of lunch carts, which were good, and two restaurants, which weren’t worth the $$$ we paid. The flavors and spices really«pop». The green and red curry dishes were great. I’m looking forward to going pack for some rice noodle dishes.

The Massaman curry is completely out of this world(complex, wholesome and a perfect entrée). The Pad Thai is also deliciously spicy. If I lived closer I would frequent this place daily.

This is my favorite stand in the little pod that could. I live in the neighborhood and everytime I pass by this pod, I see more vacant spots. It makes me sad, because I love this location and I want it to thrive so we get more carts! That being said, this stand is deeeelicious. They serve with brown rice, which I like(though jasmine seems more appropriate with curry) for health reasons, and their portions are large for the price. I got the one of the specials — a red coconut curry with mangoes, bell peppers, tomatoes and onions, and it was yummy… they use just enough heat and sweet to make a fine balance. Great quality, great price, and speed of service make this a 4 star joint!

Up til today would give them 5-stars. Today ordered the usual and got home and had brown rice. Called them and said they no longer do jasmine rice. I eat brown rice for most things but for me jasmine rice really makes the thai food. Don’t think I’ll eat here much anymore. I should add that the meat, etc. is still all 4+ stars so if you’re really into brown rice don’t let my review deter you!

Ate there yesterday — it was red curry with eggplant, tofu and bamboo shoots. Good sized portion — I have some left over for lunch today. Good flavor. I’d certainly eat here again.

I’m a pad thai snob. I wish I could say that Sila Thai won me over. They didn’t. I know there are different flavors to pad thai so if you like the sour flavor then this may be the spot for you. The portion size was good for the $ 6 but it would have been better if I had liked it. I hate to write a review based on one dish but this is a staple of any Thai menu and it just didn’t win.

This is my favorite food cart — ever! Wanton wrapped prawns with minced chicken and the spicy bamboo, veggie noodle dish is dreamy. I’m really jonesing for another order of both but might have to wait until next trip. If you love good Thai — check this place out. They also do vegan thai ice tea with coconut milk(only slightly sweet). I want one of these carts in SF!

This place has a ton of menu options for $ 5.50, which includes your choice of tofu, meat or shrimp. I was only able to eat half of my red curry, so will have the rest for another meal. I have been there twice and they are nice and the food is good. The wait was less than 10 minutes for fresh hot food. I had mango curry and they were slicing a fresh mango for it. The $ 5.50 price can’t be beat and the flavor is great.

This place has a great menu, lots of options. I’ve been once and my wife has been twice. We have both been very satisfied with all three dishes we’ve ordered. Great portion size, you could order something and probably have it for 2 meals. My wife actually spread one of hers out into 3 meals. I can’t remember what I got but it had good flavor and a nice kick to it. Apparently on Sundays they have a special chef there who makes some pretty amazing specials that they have on the board. My father and law ordered one while we were there and it looked, smelled, and according to him, tasted wonderful. Pricing is reasonable, $ 5 to $ 6 for just about everything. We’ll definately be back again.

i had it for lunch. i am seriously considering having it for dinner. they were fast, super friendly and delicious. i tried the new menu item, a tom ka style stir fry. its was amazing, inventive, the veggies were just right. i was kinda worried about the translation of a soup dish to a stir fry, but they hit it just right i also had the Geaw Tod: «Deep fried wonton with a thin layer of ground chicken paste. Served with sweet and sour sauce.» it was bomb.

Sila is a new cart that has made a recent appearance in the North Portland refuel station. I had a hankering for Thai so I thought I would support my new local peeps. I figured since this was my first time, I would play it safe and order a basic chicken pad thai. There are a TON of options on the menu! The wait was over 30 minutes but I was forgiving since it was made to order. The pad thai portion was great but the pad thai itself was just average and left me feeling sick all day. Maybe it was just an off day or perhaps they are just ironing out the kinks that come with being a new cart. Either way, they are located in a sea of delicious carts, so they really need to step up their game in order to shine.
