Great dentist for dealing with anxiety sad to say the billing department is such a nightmare not worth the trouble of the visit

By far the best experience I have had as an adult going to the dentist. Staff is very courteous and patient. I have not been in years and haven’t been the best at taking care of my teeth. They treated me very well and explained all they would be doing and went into detail about all the work I would need done. I can’t wait to go back and continue my dental treatment.

Terrible billing and agree with others, get a second opinion! My husband went here for the sedation due to high anxiety & fear. The initial visit seemed up to expectations and got the root canal resolved quickly. However, now they demand multiple other visits to fit, examine, cleaning, x-​ray, etc, etc BEFORE they will even get a crown.
At the 2^nd appointment the hygienist told my husband they needed 18 x-​rays. What??? He declined. Admittedly, we should have left at this point and took our business else where. However, felt pressured to address the tooth issue, and in hind-​sight feel taken advantage of for being in a vulnerable, need to get it done, position.
Got the billing, their handwritten receipts do not match up with totals on the print out they give you. We were told a free cleaning by a hygienist and a person who presented us with what our insurance covered. We got charged for cleaning. I am now being told that they only do free examinations and have never done free cleaning for new patients. Last and most importantly, our insurance was capped so we payed out off pocket for the remaining 1000+. THEY DO NOT OFFER DISCOUNT FOR PAYING CASH!!! This is a huge disservice to their clients as we got charge the same price as an insurance company. Heck, insurance companies don’t even pay the billed amount!
Wish I would have followed my gut on this, but there was a since of urgency with pain and need for sedation. There are other sedation options out there. We will not return.

Do you love being in an intense amount of pain, with very limited to no prescription relief? Do you love rude, incompetent, and caddy receptionist staff that just don’t care what their customer has to say? Do you love paying an obscene amount of hard earned money to get dental work that is subpar and quite possibly leaves fragments of teeth or infection in your mouth? If you said yes to any one of these, Sleep Dentistry is the place for you!!! They have it all!
I recently went in to the office of sleep dentistry to discuss my customer service issues and immense dental pain from the wisdom tooth extractions performed there last October. Mind you, I even brought the shard of tooth that JUST came out of my gum, and it is March. I requested that my x-ray’s be sent to sent to me because something like this should have been caught at my post opt apt. Let me set the seen, the Dr. pulled all four wisdom teeth and sent me home with an ibuproffen 800. It was then my fault for being in so much pain by the time I got my prescription filled the next day. Desperately attempting to catch up with pain of having 4 teeth pulled out, the pain meds prescribed were inadequate to say the very least.
The nurse actually told me, and I quote, «Its just too hard to prescribe Vicodin these days because of the government regulations. We can, its just really hard»
Now don’t get me wrong, I LOVE being in extreme amounts of dental pain as much as the next girl… but this was very, very, painful and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone else.
I wrote a Unilocal review after that visit, my FIRST Unilocal review ever. to spare the next poor soul from getting treated the same way. And the worst part, when I went in this afternoon – months later, to discuss how dissatisfied i was with their service; the office manager could care naught. She let me know to take the responsibility and have a nice day. I tried, I gave them a chance to make this awful experience right. I don’t want anyone else to go through the something this horrendous and Sleep Dentistry quite frankly doesn’t care, thus I will write a little piece of my experience every week on Unilocal to let them know its not ok what they did.

Worst experience ever.
All I needed was two teeth pulled. And it turned into the roughest dental procedure I’ve ever had. The pliers were constantly slipping off and hitting my other teeth. So much so that he actually broke my crown they put in earlier in the year. After a very rough and rushed procedure, I asked what the hell happened and they said there were minor problems but nothing to worry about and asked me not to remove the gauze.
This whole thing seemed really weird, and my teeth/​gums still hurt hours later. I had a feeling something was screwed up but I was hoping I was wrong. So I had my wife (a nurse) remove the gauze and found nothing but bad news. Not only did they break my crown and chipped my other tooth, but they removed the wrong tooth.
A horror story. They offered to pull the proper tooth free of charge and put in an implant but I declined and took money and went somewhere else.
I was ready to wipe my hands of this horrible experience and move on until today when they sent me a bill! And it turns out their «free of charge» tooth removal was charged to my insurance. I don’t like writing reviews, but this place is in dire need of new management.

I hate the dentist. A lot. That’s why I decided to go here.
I was pretty freaked out to learn that I needed 7 cavities filled but the doctor was great, as was the of the staff, through everything. I went with oral sedation/​laughing gas and came to in the middle of the procedure and freaked. I started crying, complaining about the sound of the drill. I don’t remember any of this– but I’ve been told that the doctor stopped everything and went and found my head phones for me to help block out the noise. I was also given a shot of something and knocked back out.
I was completely out of it the rest of the day, but it was worth it. I can’t recommend them enough after how well they handled my freak out in the chair!

This place rips off patients and insurers alike. Do not go here unless you wish to make charitable donations to those who are not in need. I had a lot of work done here, solely for the fact they offer sedation. 16 months later I’m getting new bills in the mail that I have never seen before, making me pay thousands because they were late (one year late) billing my insurance company and the deadline for paying the claim has passed. I even called my insurance company after Sleep Dentistry of Portland told me they had billed them and never received payment — my insurance company never got billed for the claim in question, so these people are basically lying, cheating crooks. I should have started questioning the bills long ago — I have double coverage and my new dentist always gets everything paid 100% by my insurance companies — it’s like magic. I have paid this place nearly $ 4k due to their crooked business practices and I’m 99% certain they have over-​billed my insurance companies as well — I have a grievance pending so we’ll find out soon. Save yourself some serious headaches and just go to another dentist — there’s no shortage of them.

I walked out. I don’t know about the dentists themselves, I never got that far. The dental hygenist was using an oversized contraption for the xrays that kept digging in to the bottom of my mouth causing pain, I don’t know if she was using it wrong, I don’t know if it was the wrong device, but every time she told me to bite down I felt metal digging in to the bottom of my mouth.
After four attemots to get a simple xray I lost confidence in the whole place and walked out. If they can’t do something as routine as an xray of a single tooth then I don’t see how I can trust them with an extraction,

I really thought this was going to be a good place initially. Best price I could find for wisdom tooth extractions without insurance. Maybe even with. And the doctor I got was great, and for a person with severe anxiety finding the right doctor, especially dentist, is important. Dr. Combe was the only one confident enough to remove a sideways impacted with curved roots and so far no complications. I went in a third time for a follow up and full exam as Dr. Combe and I had discussed a greater plan to correct issues with the rest of my mouth. I was not able to see Dr. Combe and they refused to do the exam. Despite pleas and explaining my anxiety, which is one of the reasons why Dr. Combe was willing to do the sideways impacted rather than refer me to oral surgeon (which Dr. Hayworth seemed ambivalent toward), they still would not do it. Continued to recommend coming back for something that would cost money first. Was a horrible experience and I will never return to a dentist that doesn’t care about my concerns, and seems to care about money more. If you can, see Dr. Combe only. Or if possible just avoid this awful place outright.

This dental office is very dishonest. Save yourself some money, and get a second opinion before agreeing to the work they claim needs to be done.

I do agree with the other reviews on here… This place sucks at billing! I don’t have dental insurance, so it was all out of pocket. Since I have a HUGE fear of the dentist, I really didn’t want to go, but since someone else said they would pay for it (my mom) I agreed.
I had about 8 cavities that needed filled, so full sedation was the only way for me! The woman that put the IV in was really friendly and I didn’t even feel the needle go into my hand! They covered me with a blanket and laid the chair back. All I remember is Dr. K leaning over me and introducing himself, then I was out like a light!
Honestly, I don’t remember anything after that for about 2 days. They did over medicate me a little, but not remembering anything was way better than being in pain! I did have a voice mail from Dr. K, just checking in and making sure I was ok after my visit. That was really nice!
As for the billing… A few months after my visit, I received a bill that said it was overdue. 1) my dental work was paid upfront and 2) how is the first bill I’m receiving already overdue? (and it was not a small bill!!) I called and finally found out that they had been sending my bill/​notice to the wrong address… I still can’t figure out why they didn’t call to confirm my address if they hadn’t received payment for that long.
Thankfully, they say that it was their error and took off the late fees, but that still left a bill of over $ 200 or so. They claimed that they found an additional cavity that didn’t show up on the x-​rays. They said it was a very LARGE cavity, so I don’t understand how it wouldn’t show up if it was that big, but whatever.
Anyways, the bill got paid. My fillings have been great and I haven’t had any problems with my teeth since my visit. I will probably go back, but they really need to work on their accounting! I mean, they could have at least told my mom (the person driving me home and paying) that there would be an extra charge for the extra filling.

Principal dental assured me both verbally and in writing they would have paid my claims had dentist given them tooth info in time to pay it.
