I’ve been to several private venues and art galleries for events downtown and Springbox Gallery was a very enjoyable experience. In the industrial section of Northwest Portland, it is just minutes from I-405 and parking was relatively easy. Certainly a breeze compared to the heart of NW23rd or the Pearl District. There were roughly 75 of us for a corporate event and it never felt crowded. Because the main room is large and relatively open, it was easy to set up a daïs for a panel of speakers with seating for a presentation in the center of the room. A bar was set up on one side with catered food on the other. The flow was nice with several smaller galleries adjoining the main room, including a side room with a pool table. Rather than just paintings on the wall, there was a wide variety of artistic expression, with an abundance of sculptures, my personal favorite. The only downside was that it was a bit loud at the height of the event because the open space seems to accentuate, not mitigate, the volume. There was no musical entertainment at my event, so I don’t know how that would play out. Another bonus is the proximity to Meriwether’s(practically around the corner) which is a nice spot to begin or end your evening around the event. All in all, it was a venue that seemed very ‘Portland’ without being overdone or trying too hard, so it felt like an inclusive space.
