Unfortunately this was probably the worst visit to an OBGYN I have ever had. With a name like «Women’s Heath Associates,» you would THINK that there would be a lot of nurturing and a good bedside manner.
But Dr. James Stempel was a bad listener and was rather cocky (no pun intended). He didn’t bother to touch me in any way, look into my eyes, or address my main concerns. He talked over me… he talks AT you but appears to not actually listen (he seemed to grill me about why I didn’t use birth control with my husband of 13 years)… nor did it seem that he looked at all the paperwork I filled out because he asked questions that I had already answered in the paperwork. I guess he was too busy to pay closer attention. I mean, it’s only my body and life in his hands I guess.
Wait…What’s MUCH worse is that he came into the room with an assistant — to whom he never introduced me — who just sat there taking notes about our conversation.
At the end of the appointment I given a copy of this assistant’s notes — and they were wrong! Completely erroneous and possible damaging to my insurance costs (which I pay out of pocket). She listed «current» medications that I’m not on anymore, missed others that I am taking, made mistakes about how to use the meds (apparently flonase is a tablet and not a nose spray), and added that I had «marijuana abuse» because I said take a little puff each day (which helps a great deal). Who are they to say I abuse a now legal substance? Quite an assessment after a 10-​minute visit. That’s not what I came in for anyway.
Bottom line is, they were inattentive and I left feeling much worse than when I came in.
DO NOT choose this doctor.
