Bear tea dance on the last Sunday of the month is the best friends fur and cocktails what’s better then that!

Bartenders are always friendly, and the crowd is an acquired taste. Comfortable, mixed atmosphere. «Gay club» is probably just for marketing purposes, but everyone is welcome! More drink specials would be nice.

Not a big fan of this place. It’s small, and kind of dirty looking. It’s always a gamble if there’s actually going to be a crowd, because I’ve seen this place empty on Friday and Saturday nights. The drinks are OK, but the scene is lame.

I’ve been a few small town gay bars (all over WV) and this was by far the worst I have been to. More than anything, I feel bad for the gay population of Portland and all of Maine in general. The bar, which was literally a basement, had a tiny dance floor, awful out-​of-​date music, and was sticky. STYXX, you have no excuse for being this terrible!

Last night was really nice. Its a remembrance of how Man ray was themed on saturday nights. This is the way a club of this type should operate. hats off to the staff and performer for puling it off. I think it went well and when you see an audience reacting in such a manner you know you are appealing to them and their tastes… Thanks staff at Styxx for making saturday night a fun night and bringing back memories of old days… Thats the way it should be done. Should also put a host on the mic and have her/​him come out every hour and make the audience feel welcomed and appreciated… In addition make announcements of upcoming events…

I so want to like the place, but it’s dead, dead, dead. I like the old looking atmosphere and the fact that it’s got the old school look, but a few times a year I get up there to dance and have fun, there about 10 people in the place. management needs to rethink things. It could be great if there were some people.

Just so incredibly terrible on so many different levels.

So I wanted my 100^th review (yay me!) to be about some place/​thing I really love, and there’s not really anything or anyone I love more than my gays. And the gays of Portland deserve much, MUCH better than this place!
I was in complete and utter shock when I stepped into this «club», which anywhere else would be considered a sad excuse for a dive bar. It’s in a basement (location location location!) and very awkwardly set up. The dance floor is t-​i-​n-​y. Now I can understand making it somewhat small so that the boys have to rub up on each other, but it was really ridiculous. The table placement was also very odd, there seemed to be too many crammed into such a small space and then there was a random couch against one of the walls… I’ll let your imagination take over with that one.
I just find it hard to believe that the gays of Portland are accepting of this place… the only way I can make sense of it is they just don’t know any better. And having been to many a gay club in NYC, I DO, and STYXX is just simply unacceptable, and the the gays of Portland should demand better!
I have so many great ideas for the improvement of this place, it has such great potential but everyone seems to be content with it’s mediocrity. I’m thinking of speaking with the owner and sharing my ideas… or perhaps I should open up a place of my own!
