Subway eat fresh more like Subway eat hair. After my lovely wife fell ill due to the flu, I was left without a lunch. Knowing this I decided to go to the Subway next to my work for a quick bite. Walking in the unpleasant aroma of bread filled my nose like my father-in law’s farts on a family road trip. All that could have been ignored if they actually gave me the foot long that I ordered. Instead of a foot long the gave me a 10 inch sandwich. I don’t have lots of money so I felt like Subway was jewing me out of my money. I was too hungry so I didn’t say a thing and just ate my sandwich. Upon eating the 10 inch sandwich, I found 2 hairs in it, not one but TWO, DOS, TWO!!! I complained to the sandwich maker and she said with her inferior intellect that it was my hair and wouldn’t give me a refund. This was not possible because the hair was long and brown while I had a buzzcut and had black hair(thanks Great Clips). Subway must hire better works before I ever step foot in another one of their establishment again.

I am happy to report that this Subway(and maybe others in Portland), do in fact have a gluten free bun! I was reading that only a select handful of cities are testing out the Gluten free buns, and thankfully, Portland is one of these cities. Yay! While the other characteristics are pretty typical of Subways(teenager working behind the counter, cheese and meat cuts, bags of chips, old tables, etc.), the exception is the gluten free bun. Comes pre-packaged(no fear of contamination), and the server puts on special gloves and uses a special knife to cut the bread. They, unfortunately, do not have the gluten free brownie.

The service is great however, the veggies… not so ‘fresh’!! I enjoy the tuna sand. but the past two times I ordered it the tuna was too FISHY and unpleasant tasting.

I went here the other day for their buy one six inch sandwich, get one free. This Subway is definitely better than the one at the Lloyd Center. I got an egg and cheese sandwich and a tuna. Both were your standard Subway sandwiches, but really fresh and definitely hit the spot. My only complaint is that the sandwiches here are more expensive than the usual Subways I’ve been, which is probably because of the location. They only had a few sandwiches on their $ 5 footlong menu. Anyway, the place was clean and the service was alright. I might come back again since they still do have the bogo deal going on.

I have a like-hate relationship with Subway. I can only eat there maybe once or twice a month. I got so burned out on it in the past. The like part is the food is somewhat healthy and you can customize your sandwich to keep from getting bored of the same thing all the time. They are reasonably priced and usually have a deal going on where you can get a decent lunch $ 5 or $ 6. And lastly, they are quick. I can be in and out in less than 5 minutes. The hate part is that it’s fast food, generic, unimaginative, blah. In the past, I worked a job were there were only 3 options for lunch in the area. Subway was one of them. After a few months of eating Subway a couple of times a week, I really burned out on the menu. I don’t know how Jered did it. That said, in the past few years they have made some improvements and added more stuff to their menu. They started offering to toast the bread a la Quiznos. That was a HUGE improvement. There is nothing worse than a soggy sub sandwich. They started offering more exotic options like pulled pork, cheesesteak, and several types of chicken. A bunch of new kinds of bread were added to the menu. This went a long way to make the place appealing to me again. I tried the Buffalo Chicken today, one of the new(er) options, on the 9 grain honey wheat bread. The chicken comes pre-sauced so after adding the veggies,(spinach, onions, cucumbers, bell peppers, tomatoes and olives) I opted for the ranch dressing. I figured it would complement the spicy hot Buffalo sauce. It turned out great. All the ingredients were fresh, the chicken had a nice tangy spice to it and the ranch added a creamy coolness that topped it off. Pretty damn good for fast food. Service was quick and efficient as always. The staff at this location actually seemed to be enjoying themselves. The guy making my sandwich was careful to make sure the veggies were spread evenly across the sandwich so I got all the flavors with each bite, Sandwich Artiste indeed. The bottom line: Service: **** Quick and friendly Food: ***.5 Fresh and tasty Price: *** Good Ambiance: Not rated, order to go. 3.5 up to 4. Disclaimer: Normally I wouldn’t rate a fast food place this high but the friendly service here really made the difference. I haven’t experience that often in a fast food place.

Normally I wouldn’t even both with reviewing a Subway, but this one had Swiss cheese. After listening to way too many Subway ‘sandwich artists’ tell me in some very misplaced snotty tone«uh, we don’t have have swiss cheese, would you care for provolone?»; well I just have to give this Subway a mention simply because they had Swiss cheese. Other than that. Well, it’s just a Subway. Ok if want something quick and relatively cheap, and you’re not too picky about bathrooms.

This is the worst Subway I’ve ever been to. My sandwich there tasted really funky. The service was so-so. I’m glad this is not the closest subway shop to me, and that there’s a better one closer to where I live.

The only eatery I could find that was open at 9pm on a Friday. Not really my first choice, more like the only choice. Standard Subway-fare. $ 13 for two sandwiches and drinks. Can’t really ask for more.

The best thing about this Subway is that, even during the busy lunch hour, they can slam through a ton of people and not screw up your order. Other than that, it’s your typical Subway with the same menu as everywhere. Not much more to say on this one.

So far this is my favorite subway location in Downtown Portland. They’re very good at getting complicated orders and offer good suggestions. They also accept the points card which makes this 2 mile round trip walk worth while.
