A 5 star from me about a taco joint? Wow Needless to say they impressed me. Specially cause in that area(Portland, Rockport, Aransas pass, etc) they do not care about food as much as we do in Austin. Not many real good places to eat there. Well I did it. I finally found a gem in this place. Now from the outside driving through the drive through I was nervous. Signage and building was not impressive. Nor the advertising other local businesses posters on the drive through window. But after seeing the great menu, the great reasonable prices, I had high hopes the food would be good. I ordered 3 tacos, 2 bacon egg sausage and cheese. THEYWEREFANTASTIC! And I am super picky about my tacos, I don’t like tex mex and I’m a white American from Austin Texas. Only downfall was I wish I would have only ordered those 2 cause they were so dark huge. The could have made 2 out of the ingredients in 1. But they go above and beyond to please the customer with giant tacos. I also ordered 1 bean potato bacon and cheese. It was superb. A little more potato and a little less beans for my liking but it worked. I was happy. My friend ordered something crazy I forget what but one of the ingredients on the menu says«a la mex» and he tore that taco up. It looked so good I wanted to snatch a bite of his hahaha. I’m trying the a la mex next time for sure. Smelled better than mine too dang it. As for the service, this guy was a gentlemen. Spoke proper, with respect. Like he loved what he does for a living and wants to continue making people like me happy. Good job guys who made my food, took my order and whoever the owner is. I’m impressed. But now when will i see one of these locations in Austin Texas? Cause I will be 200 pounds heavier if so but could care less. I can’t keep driving 3 hours to just get tacos. Well I might. Those tacos and the business all together would kill it in Austin. When can I franchise in? Who cares about a taco truck when there’s this place around? Not me. Long line or not I’m getting mine! In Austin we had a taco place that started with a truck. Then went to brick and mortar. Now has locations all over Texas and in a few states already. And still opening new ones constantly. It’s called torchys tacos. BUTTHEYARETHEWORSTTACOSIVEEVEREATEN. I don’t understand. Now a place like those one would, could and should go even farther. Find out what that dudes doing right and pass his nasty tacos up! If you read this far you rock, cause that was allot. Psst –I came hangry, I left happy!

I came here while I was visiting out of town… I looked it up & this place had some amazing reviews, and they were well earned! Amazing breakfast tacos! Since it was lunch time I also split a lengua torta… oh it was AMAZING! Pricing was ridiculously cheap too. I guess thats what you can charge when you keep overhead to a minimum.

All of the locals know this place. Not by its name, but by its place in our hearts. Yes… The«Taco Shack». Ever since I was little, my dad would wake up early Sunday morning and buy us all tacos before church. I always got barbacoa tacos. Even before school started, I remember people rushing around to get taco orders situated in classes so one person can pick them up. And it was all worth it. All of their tortillas are thick and homemade. They’re usually really speedy on their orders. The customer service is alright. They always seem in a rush, but I don’t blame them. The shack is mainly a drive through only, with the exception of two little tables upfront(think of Sonic). Their prices are pretty low too, which is always a plus. I’m pretty picky with my tacos, but today I decided to go adventurous and try something new. I got chorizo and egg, and chorizo and bean. The only reason this place is four stars is because of this order. THECHORIZOIS A GREASETRAP. I REPEAT, THECHORIZOIS A GREASETRAP. My tortilla was soaked in grease by the time I got to the end. It was completely orange. I couldn’t even finish it. When I looked down at my foil, I saw a pool of grease that was at least up to mid-fingernail. For BOTH tacos. But I couldn’t let one bad experience change my perspective on this restaurant that I’ve loved for years.

Eaten here almost everyday for 4 years. It’s the thing I’ll miss most about leaving Portland. Be sure to try a bean cheese and bacon taco

Oh, man… these guys. Jeez, coming home off of a short road swing, I decided to get some Carne Guisada and Barbacoa, and it was great! I will go again the next time I perform in South Texas. Great food great prices!

This is our go to place when we visit family in Portland. We always make a point to grab some breakfast tacos to enjoy one morning. Tacos have a ton of filling, love their bacon. The line is usually a few cars deep, but they are pretty fast. Best place we’ve eaten at in Portland.

This is the taco stand of my childhood. I grew up eating their breakfast tacos at least once a week for over 15 years. I have no complaints. You can order a ton of tacos for little money and if you order through the front walk-up window you can watch the magic happen! Also delish: migas, everything else. Their salsa is the bomb. Enough said.

This place is worth a visit, however they really need to get fountain drinks and loose the cans. Also fix the speakers in the drive thru. Other then that, great value

The tacos are small but hot and fresh. The tortillas are a bit chewy. The service is fast and the price is low. They are a little tight on the salsa so ask for plenty.

Ok, they’ve changed their pastor recipe. It’s still good, but it’s not blow-your-freaking-mind amazing anymore. Also, their beans have been on the decline. BUT this little taco stand still deserves a solid four stars because most everything else on the menu is super tasty. My faves = chicken gordita, cheese enchiladas, almost any breakfast taco. All in all, this place and DQ blizzards are the main culprits in my blossoming weight since moving back to town.
