Not the best burrito I have ever had but it definitly cures what ales ya… aka hang over or drunk food. I don’t like the fact that they use white rice in their burritos and really don’t appreciate getting leered at by the cooks in the open kitchen. Aside from that, the counter staff is always attempting to be sort of nice and the hot sauce/salsa bar is pretty legit.

Cozy place on the corner of the street. I have been here three times and have ordered the empanadas with chorizo and nachos with chorizo(big fan of this choice of protein). Hearty portions for a relatively low price, not to mention delicious. Empanadas were loaded with just enough cheese and jalapeños. During my most recent visit, the chorizo was a different shade than the normal deep red with specks of black; closer to a bright orange. Perhaps it needed more grilling since it was also a tad cold. Overall, an excellent choice for dinner or a snack to pair with a movie night at home.

Ordered the garbage burrito. It wasn’t the greatest thing in the universe but being in Portland and the Pacific Northwest I was pleasantly surprised! Even in my native Los Angeles or my new adopted home of Dallas this place would be a killer spot. The food tastes fresh, the meat was tender and void of fat or grizzle, it could have been a little spicier, and a touch of guacamole or even a light tomatillo salsa would have pushed this into the 5 star area. The lady behind the counter was extremely nice. My first day in Portland has so far been met with the stereotypical negative hipster type, snobby, rude, and too cool for school(which baffles me because I have been told PDX is home to the friendly, artsy, down to earth, modern hipster type, still not my group but regardless…) which is surprising to me! Everyone at this place seemed friendly and down to earth giving me a place to come an unwind. Even the patrons were super cool. You had the hipsters, the artsy, some business people, and some drunks from the bar but everyone was enjoying their food and super friendly. Good food will really bring all types of people together! The lady even recommend to another gentleman to grab a pint at the brewery next door and they’d still serve them their food. Highly recommended for a taste of genuine cuisine with a slightly modern twist.

Service is extremely slow so don’t go here if you have any sort of a timeline. I ordered a chicken chimichanga. It was a tortilla stuffed with chicken and deep fried then topped with avocado and tomato slices. There was a lot of chicken as that’s all there was inside, I’ve never had a chimichanga that only consisted of that. They second star is for the lava hot creamy orange salsa, that was indeed amazing. If only it could have salvaged my tortilla and shredded chicken meal.

YUM! YUM! YUM! I love the $ 2 tacos here! Shredded beef is my favorite but there is a wide selection of meats. All of them are delicious and are full of flavor. Most importantly the food, staff and open kitchen are clean. Their portions are really generous. Try the garbage burrito its huge. Be prepared for a line at lunchtime but its worth the wait and the service is fast. Their habanero sauce is kickass goodness. There is a serve-yourself mild to hothot sauces bar so try them all. And some peppers/veggies. They have a long vegan menu for non-carnivorous types. They also have Mexican sodas. My only negative is the parking lot is almost non-existent and street parking in that area is practically impossible. The food makes the parking fight worth it though!

This place wasn’t horrible. That’s about the best I can say. Ordered beef fajitas with extra sour cream. The staff was not very friendly. The fajita plate was fairly large, but they skimped out on the sour cream(ordered and paid for extra), and it only came with three small tortilla. Biggest complaint though was the fatty beef. I ended up spitting out every third bite because it was pure fat.

Taqueria Los Gorditos gives you a choice of eleven different meats for their $ 2.00 tacos.. .a pretty big selection. They also have fish and shrimp tacos for $ 3.00. I had three tacos today: al pastor, carnitas, and carne asada. All three were pretty tasty even without putting any salsa on them. The meats were seasoned nicely. In fact, I pulled a bay leaf out of the carnitas, which is a good sign because bay leaves are a wonderful ingredient for preparing flavorful meats. I only wish the meats had been grilled a little bit right before being placed on the tortillas though, because they were just a bit wet.(I prefer taco meat to be at least slightly browned.. .but that’s just me.) Overall, I thought these tacos were OK, and I’m looking forward to going back and trying some of those other meats out of their eleven.

Cheap street tacos and a salsa bar — can’t argue with that. I had a couple of shrimp tacos and they were tasty. My only regret is I over-did it on the white hot sauce and burnt my tastebuds off. But the other hot sauces were lovely. It doesn’t hurt to be connected to a fantastic beer bar.

I wasn’t impressed with their regular burritos until I tried their breakfast burrito. I had it this morning and i’m craving it again! for $ 6, you get a giant burrito with eggs, meat(i get chicken), rice, beans, sour cream, etc etc. That’s a great deal! The orange hot sauce is really great as well. What i usually do is cut it in half and eat some later in the day. That way I don’t get the«I ate too much» feeling that you’ll get when you eat a burrito the size of your face My GF loves this place too. She i a fan of the vegan burrito. The server was real nice and pleasant and as well. Give it a try!

Let’s gets real and be honest with ourselves, the food is basically fucking terrible. This is where cheap ass people that like volume and flavor damned for $ 8 no matter what you order. But lots of bad food does not make it good. Service was fine, nothing outstanding but pleasant enough and cool when we asked for the side they forgot.(Gut feel it’s the kind of place you worry they’ll spit in your food if you point out they made a mistake.) Enchilada with chicken, the best of the trio and all I can say is bland, no flavor and had it been my dish I would have been wildly disappointed. Shrimp burrito, tons of flavor… that fishy gross shrimp flavor when the shrimp is frozen, low quality or long in the tooth. My wife doesn’t like onions but forgot to ask them to be left out… didn’t matter as they had and added no flavor. Chicken fajitas — shredded chicken. Odd. Not common to have shredded chicken in a fajita. I mean the term fajita means grilled meat. HEY! FAJITAISDEFINEDASGRILLEDMEAT. But that’s cool, just throw some of that stewed shredded chicken, which by the way not only had no fajitas flavor but had no flavor… Onions and peppers, no flavor. I don’t know how you did it but they literally added nothing. The tortillas were ok, store bought like from Safeway… Re fried, too much lard and no flavor. Rice, was rice. Salsa bar, all tasted thin, no flavor but a little spice… All as disappointing as my 35 year old brother in law who just can’t cut the apron strings to his momma. I digress. If people say this is authentic, I hate to tell them their mom cooks like shit. Good thing the place made up for it with sparkling clean counters, lovely décor and atmosphere… wait flip that. Without being rancid or involving a finger nail, I can say this is just bad. You’re better than this, keep on driving.

Congratulations, Los Gorditos, you finally did it! You’ve officially lost two customers. My husband and I have been going to Los Gorditos for years. We loved it from the beginning; how could we not. It was great food, great service, and great on the wallet. It was our go-to place when we didn’t want to cook dinner, or for the occasional lazy Sunday morning. We began to notice it going downhill as soon as they began accepting credit/debit cards. Slowly, the service and overall quality of the food declined. Lately, more times than not, the service has been atrocious and the order has come out wrong. Because we’ve had such pleasant experiences in the past, we continued to go, but we’ve had it. Our last two experiences have led us to boycott the establishment for good. Sunday, June 28: Los Gorditos closes at 6pm on Sunday’s. We got there at 5:45pm to order to-go. We were the last allowed to order and those behind us were sent away. We ordered five tacos: 2 soycurl, 2 soyrizo, and 1 regular. Three were ordered with no onions. We received our order and left, but because we’ve had so much trouble with our order being wrong in the past, I checked it in the car before leaving. There were only 4 tacos: 2 tofu, 1 soyrizo, and 1 non-taco(it was literally two tortillas folded like a taco with no filling). They were all covered in raw onions. My husband took the order back inside letting them know it was wrong and showed them the non-taco. The woman he spoke to laughed and gave him his money back. There was no offer to correct the problem. Being so frustrated with Los Gorditos, we did not go back for a while. Today, we decided to try it again. Friday, July 31: We got to Los Gorditos for lunch around 11am. There was nobody in line and we were able to order right away. We ordered a soycurl fajita burrito with no onions, 1 soycurl taco, and 1 soyrizo taco. It’s a beautiful day and not too hot outside yet, so we sat outside. 30 minutes passed and we still didn’t have our food. My husband went inside to see what the hold up was and was told it would be right out. The woman came out a few minutes later and said our order was given to someone else but they’d remake it and bring it out soon. Another 10 minutes passed and it came. My husband opened his burrito to make sure there weren’t any onions and it was full of them. He took it inside and was told there weren’t onions and he had to physically show them. The cook rolled his eyes and began to remake the burrito. When he got it back, it was only beans, rice, and soycurls. A soycurl fajita burrito is supposed to also come with bell peppers as fajita veggies and cilantro. Portland food establishments do not always have the best service, but the product is so good it keeps people coming back. Los Gorditos is no longer one of these establishments.

I’d start differently but I want to call the owners attn, it is inhumanely hot in that kitchen on hot days, as it is in many no doubt, which should also be equipped with some kind of ac unit. And some healthier black beans! :-) :-) Food is generally pretty delicioso though — love the fajita style fish tacos

I have been getting burritos here for a few years and the price has gone up while the quality has gone down. Sometimes ingredients listed are missing, or the meat is very very greasy. The burritos are a good way to be very full for $ 5, especially if you go there on a good day. Today I had the carne asada plate and it was a mistake. It wasn’t even carne asada! It was chewy, fatty steak. The veggies were good but still, not acceptable to deceive customers like that. And the meat was pretty gross. Also, I found a twist tie in the food. Ugh! Sad to say I’ll never go back. Hoping I don’t get food poisoning.

Stopped in after getting the beer munchies while at Apex. I had their shrimp burrito and it was greattttttt. The most shrimp I’ve had in a burrito. Ever. Nice salsa bar. Delivered to the bar. Staff was very friendly. 5 stars for the shrimp burrito and service. Would come back even if I didn’t have the beer munchies and even if it weren’t so convenient.

EDIT: okay, little lady spoke too soon on this one. i went back and got the stacy burrito on a recommendation and now i just start imagining that delicious mexihugwrapdelight and my tongue feels all giddy. calm down, tongue, you’ll get some more soon. oh, and add avocado, you’re not an animal. ORIGINALREVIEW: there are quite a few mexican spots that are better than taqueria los gorditos that are within walking/biking distance so i would head elsewhere for a tasty burrito. i will say that this place is not as greasy as it looks like it may be when you walk in. the last time i was there i had a torta and i would suggest getting anything but this! the bread tasted like it had been frozen and then just thrown straight into a toaster. maybe after several beers across the street at beermongers, this would be a viable option to stumble into but don’t expect anything special.

I’m sorry Los Gorditos but I’ve gotta be honest. I’ve never really been too sure about this place. It doesn’t put a strain on the wallet, which is nice. It’s got amazing reviews, which tells me I should like it. But the meat is really low quality and tonight that reared its ugly head in a most unfortunate way(yes, the cliché food poisoning). I’m not one of the standard hypochondriac Unilocalers. When I say food poisoning, I actually mean it. So yanno give them a shot. It’s tasty if you’re in the right mood. But just know you’re playing Russian roulette with your insides. Pro tip: definitely don’t patronize this place the night before summer interviews. Sigh.

I’ve been to this place several times now, since it’s really close to where we live, and I can whole-heartedly say Los Gorditos has never let me down. The service is always friendly and welcoming, even when they’re obviously swamped and trying to get through the orders as quickly as they can. We’ve found, often the best method is to call in the order beforehand, to avoid the wait, since they are really often quite busy. The food is excellent. I usually opt for the burritos, since it’s usually quite a bit of bang for your buck and every time it has been more than enough for one meal, but I can’t help myself but finish it because it’s too delicious to stop, much to my own regret.(Just because I stuff myself. No regrets food-wise.) The prices to portions ratio is ideal, in my mind. And the fact that they have not only a vegetarian but also vegan specific menu is even more reason to love them.

When ordering chips at a Mexican restaurant do you expect to receive them: a. Pretty freaking soon b. Right effing now, or c. Just as you’re about to leave after having eaten your other food They were out of chips, and that sucks, but it’s something that they could have informed me of that as I ordered. Managed my expectations a little. Maybe allowed me to change my order so that I could find something to feed the cranky toddler. Maybe, IDK, apologize? Comp them? Something. The chips were a symptom of the larger problem – the restaurant was severely understaffed. The dirty dishes of previous patrons piled high in the bins, and the food took forever to arrive. It was pretty standard fare once it finally did come. I just don’t get this place. Not coming back.

Typical Mexican food. Lots of veggie/vegan options and they deliver to the APEX patio next door. If it were not for APEX, I probably wouldn’t visit. But with the great beer and patio next door, I’m sure Los Gorditos will feed me many times in the future.

PORTLAND, OREGONREVIEW # 26(FOOD) QT: CASHONLY! After leaving our first out of state Unilocal event, we decided to check this place out. Located next door to Apex bar. Plenty of outside and inside seating. We opted for indoor since it was a little chilly. This was the first time I tried Soy Curls and I was officially hooked. Where in the heck do I buy these curls in the bay area??? We ordered two types of tacos at $ 2 a piece. We inhaled it! No mercy to these little tiny morsales of goodness. If you are ever in town, check them out. It’s a great place for both vegans, vegetarians and omnivores. Plus it’s next to a bar that serves over 40 – 50 beers. It’s a win win!

MASAESMUCHOBUENO, ¿ENTIENDES? I came into Los Gorditos looking for something vegan, small, and unique — I got it *both* times I dined there. Coming from a border state, I’ve had a hard time finding vegan-friendly Mexican-like fare that’s not just a lard-less bean burrito with sad tomatoes and bland rice. Well, at Los Gorditos, the rice is still bland and the beans still make a big brown pool, but the vegan options made me super happy. First time, I tried the Huaraches with Soycurls.(I love soycurls and was ecstatic that they were featured here!!) The masa and overall flavor of the huaraches was awesome with beautiful slices of avocado and tomatoes on top. Second time, I tried the Empanadas Rellenas. Way better than my attempts at making vegan jalapeño poppers!!! This dish made my husband jealous — I was nice enough to give him two bites, pero no mas! Go to the ATM, get some cash, go to Los Gorditos and try their vegan menu — be a bit more daring than your average bean burrito and go for the corn, corn masa that is!
