I’m not sure how you give the Belmont Goats anything less than 5 stars. In terms of «urban goat roadside attraction», it’s got pretty much everything you need. Watch the goats. Pet the goats. Adore their adorableness. Repeat. Their new digs off of Lents is pretty good size and features a shed for privacy plus the goat version of a jungle gym. There are around 10 goats, and there’s a little sign that introduces each of the residents and ranks them on a friendliness scale. I do think the scale needs to be updated, because one goat had only two stars and he came right up to me and gave me goat kisses. Or tried to eat my hand. Maybe that’s the same thing? Anyhow, this is a a cute little diversion. I’m not sure WHY it exists, but I’m glad it does. It brings a welcome dose of character to this corner of the city.

I LOVETHEBELMONTGOATS! Seriously. The first time we saw them, they were in their old location… we were driving by and our Über driver casually said«that’s the goat lot». Um, what? Slow down. We didn’t really get to check them out the first time we were in Portland, so they were on my list of things to do on our second. The new space is awesome! They have a big park with shelter and climbing areas and fresh hay all around. It’s very clean and it was really wonderful interacting with the goats. And I just love Chester! We went on a Saturday and there was a farmer’s market next door– added bonus!

The Belmont Goats are another wonderful part of Portland’s environmental obsession. They are easy to see, even on the outside of the gates. There are numerous goats of numerous colors. Their location is near light rail. I walked up to the Belmont Goats having remembered when they actually were in Belmont. They each looked cute and they were not hostile to human onlookers when I went. There are lots of goat houses which appear to be the goat equivalent of doghouses. It was fun and you can get closer when they are open. Try seeing these Belmont Goats.

Goats!!! I have always been a pretty big fan of this farmyard animal. Sadly though I just don’t get to see or be around them very often. If you too are a goat enthusiast, this little sanctuary should be your destination on the next afternoon you have free. Outside the gate is a sign with all of the goat’s pictures and their names. We spoke with one of the owners on our visit who informed us that they are all at least a three on the friendly-meter now. There is a little goat house in the enclosure that you should not venture inside of, it’s their safe place. All of the goats are very welcoming and have even taken in a single chicken. Don’t bring anything to feed them though, they are fed by their owners a very specific diet to keep them healthy, although they do supplement it with some tree bark they all seemed quite excited to be noshing on. But be careful, goats will be goats and try to eat your clothes while you give them love. Just politely ask them to stop and then give them a scratch behind the ears. I’m so glad we found this place!

I love these goats. I loved them ever since I first saw them in their original home on Belmont(hence the name) and now I love them even more that they’re a mere couple miles from my house! If you don’t follow Belmont Goats on Twitter and Instagram, you’re missing out. There are up to a dozen daily posts with pictures and video of the adorable antics of these awesome creatures. The Belmont Goats deserve to be as iconically«Keep Portland Weird» as our food cart scene, the«Made in Portland» aka«Portland Oregon» White Stag sign, and the fictional«Women and Women First» Portlandia bookstore. Between May and October, on Sundays the Lents Farmers Market is right next door to the goats. But don’t wait for a summertime Sunday to come see the guys and gals. Please, please, please DONOTFEEDTHEGOATS. They are on a well-rounded, balanced diet and outside food only disrupts their routine and may sicken them. Likewise, do not throw things into the enclosure. In closing, do not have any concerns about the well-being of the goats. Anyone who follows their caretakers on Twitter read about the great thought and care taken with selecting fencing, building the enclosure, the move from their old home to Lents, the goats’ enrichment, etc. Dear Goats — Please never leave Lents. Thanks!

Was at Oliver’s café this morning, and decided to take a short walk after breakfast. On the walk discovered THEBELMONTGOATS(which have moved to Lents neighborhood) SERENDIPITY!!! It was a very heart warming experiencing seeing all these happy little goats goats living in harmony, and well taken care of. There is a picture of each goat with their name, and about their disposition. I’m so glad they’re in the neighborhood, and looking forward to seeing them again real soon!
