3rd time in a row driving here to get a donor only to see they aren’t open. I love their donors but this being the 3rd time I’ve come here and their hours say they are open and they are actually closed means that i unfortunately won’t be back. Toooo bad.

I had such high hopes for this cart. I had a very lackluster experience, and the dude working seemed like he could really care less — he also blamed all of the shortcomings we experienced on the owner, that’s sure professional. I went a couple weeks ago on a Friday afternoon — it was probably about 6pm. Knowing that they were open until 1am, it kind of pissed me off that they were already out of currywurst AND schnitzel. We ended up getting a couple of doner plates and some extra doner meat(good thing because they’re not terribly generous with portion sizes.) The french fries were soggy and barely cooked, there was absolutely nothing extraordinary about the meat, and the salad was definitely an after thought. Such a huge let down. It really shows when you don’t care that much about what you’re putting out. I’m surprised by a lot of the good reviews, so perhaps people have had much better experiences, and Doner is also somewhat of a novelty in Portland. I definitely won’t be going back a second time to see if it improves though. Bummer Doner Haus, you kind of suck.

As someone who’s been to Germany several times in several cities and familiar with doner/kebab cuisine all over Europe, I’ve been wanting to try out this place. But I’ve gave up meat so I could only base my impression on their fries which I had with curry ketchup and cheese sprinkles. But I was with two other two meat eaters. We were all disappointed with their fries — undercooked, most likely not fresh cut like most PDX fries, with bit too much salt. According to my meat eater friends, the meat was fine. But then there was the incident where they totally forgot about one of my friend’s order though there was no one else ordering/waiting. Guess pretty Portland but too bad I have no desire to return.

Not exactly a culinary delight with little room for creativity, the doner is nevertheless given justice at this no-nonsense food cart. Fresh and flavorful ingredients add to it. We stopped on a day they were out of Chicken to the dismay of spouse(who doesn’t eat beef/lamb). A little pricey for what you get, but if exploring you must, this cart ain’t the worst option.

These guys are in a mini-pod with some champs… Gabagool, Tiffin Asha, Moberi. However, they manage to hold their own. I sampled the Doner Box and the Durum at this cart, and both were comforting, saucy, and fresh. My friend and I both found the meat to be too salty, but overall we agreed that it was a filling snack that hit the spot. The proprietor kindly includes a fork and a napkin for to-go orders, an unfortunately rare courtesy in this town. Overall, solid food to pair with the beers at Stormbreaker next door, or to wash down with a healthy pedal-powered smoothie!

Being German and having tasted lots and lots of real legit Döners throughout my life I have to say that this place may not be the best but it is better than most in Portland. The Döners look like Döners and not some kind of Gyro wrap compared to some food carts in Portland. The meat was decent, too bad its not 100% lamb, but all in all it looks and tastes great. I know there is some debate on their pricing but considering a Döner in Germany costs between 4 and 5 Euro $ 6.50 isn’t that much more if you do the math. The customer service isn’t the best, which is my this place just can’t get a solid 5-star review from most. Service is actually pretty slow and food does not get served together if you get multiple things. I was already done eating by the time my family got their food. I also got a Döner to-go once and was stupid enough to not double check my food before I drove back to SW Portland. They had added Feta to my Döner which I didn’t even ask for and was allergic to. I called the food truck but they didn’t seem to care much. No replacement was offered or anything close to that matter. BTW: Döners were created in Germany by Turkish immigrants, they are considered Turkish street food sold mainly in Germany…

This place just saved me at 1am. So much dancing. So much hunger. And then… DÖNER Thank you for the munches.

The Doner Box sounded amazing, choice of meat(gyro) and sauce with vegetables atop a bed of fries. It was alright… the box was smaller than I thought it would be and not filling enough to be worth $ 7.

Walked up on this cart while walking in Portland. There wasn’t a line, so the food came out fairly quickly. We ordered the lamb durum, and it was so delicious. My wife and I shared it, but we sure could of had one each. It’s tough to find such good durum’s, I think the last one I had that was this good was in Brussels. So if your in the mood for one and looking for a good spot, stop on by.

Yummm! Just had my very first Döner and it was delicious. My son has been ranting and raving about these since he got back from Germany. He was not exaggerating about their deliciousness. Fresh, crunchy lettuce and cucumbers compliment the juicy meat. The bread(or flatbread, not sure what it is officially called) was also delicious and held the meat, veggies, and sauce together till the last bite. Looking forward to my next visit.

We decided to try this in the 4th since Mississippi Pizza and Por Que No we’re closed for the holiday. The Doner with lamb was delicious and fresh. I really enjoyed it. Nice portion size and everything was fresh. The challenging part was the service. They need to find their groove. It appeared they were only putting out one menu item about every 2 to 3 minutes. It is very slow when there is a line. Plus everyone ordered something similar and they didn’t put names with the orders so it made it confusing which order belonged to which person. They were friendly though. I think if they can overcome their inefficiencies, this could easily be a 4 or 5 star.

The Döner and the cali Döner are both simply amazing. The food is light and fresh and flavorful. They are a great late night post bar stop on Fri and Sat nights. Prices are reasonable but the service can be VERY inconsistent. Some of the guys are great, but some are slow with a side of lazy.

It’s sad that a place with pretty good food but one of the worst and lazy service I have ever received prompt me to write my first review. Not really sure if the person who cooked and served us was the owner or just another grumpy Portland tool, but the fact that in ordering four items and only getting two of those items seems like just laziness. When letting him know that he forgot to give us the two fries we ordered his response was«oh… Ya. It’ll be right out). In which we only received one order of extremely soggy bland potato slivers. So much attitude from such a small cart. Aside from the fries, the doner was quite good. But with such terrible service, I would never go back.

Tried this for the first time with a recommendation from Bishop’s across the street. Got the lamb Durum. OMG! It was sooooo good. As good as the gyros I drive 5 hours to get in BC and that’s saying something. Went back to get more but they were closed! Wtheezy?! It said open til 3am and it was just 9. They would have gotten 5 stars if their hours were right. Sad panda right now. Update: Well… just called them aaaand dude said they were open. Sighs… the door was closed though. I’m so confused! Back I go! Update two: Okay okay. You had to go to the store to replenish so you can stay open til 3. Myyyy bad. I can’t wait to get home and stuff my face! 5 stars for you! Teehee…

I’ve never tried a Doner before, but let me tell you, this was delicious. I tried the beef one at the Tigard Hot Air Balloon Fest & I’m hooked. I will definitely be heading to their food cart for another.

I love their food! Very authentic and flavorful. Eric is extremely congenial and dashing. My whole office eats there on the regular.

The panda learns something every day. Didn’t realize before my visit that Germany was responsible for foods that I’d associate more with the Mediterranean/Turkish cuisine(doner, gyros, etc.). I got the Doner Sandwich($ 6.50) and added feta for 50 cents more. Shaved slices of lamb/beef inside a Kaiser roll with tzatziki, feta, and all the usual veggies. As expected, the meat is what truly makes this a sandwich to get. Juicy, flavorful, and still warm when biting in. It may get a bit messy, but that’s the fun part of my hobby. I am also a big sucker for curry, so I’ll have to try that at some point. Great food cart here!

There’s some argumentative buzz about which country invented the sandwich, who was first, blah, blah… get over it, the sandwich rocked. The flat bread was not an afterthought, but rather a unique scrumptious grilled complement to the wonderful sliced meat. The sauce was yum, but I wish the fries were thicker. The Doner Box is a good deal; a great intro to this German/Turkish/whatever street food. The owner is very cool.

Well, I can say that it is better than anything I’ve had from a Downtown gyro cart so far… which isn’t saying much still. Everything about the sandwich was passable, but nothing really stood out in terms of taste. At least it wasn’t loaded with too many vegetables. I’d say if it was $ 4 or $ 5, I’d be considering it more often for its quality and size. But as it stands, it’s only okay. P. S. The guy who runs the cart on Monday lunch shouldn’t say the sandwich was invented in Germany, because it definitely wasn’t. Definitely Turkish that migrated into Germany/Austria, man.

The food easily gets five stars, but the service gets only two. On two occasions(out of the four times that I’ve gone), I’ve shown up to discover there wasn’t flatbread available for their delicious dürüm sandwiches. It seems to me that if you’re getting low on ingredients you would have somebody restock rather than allow product to run out. Needless to say, the problem needs to be fixed. I’ll be happy to increase this to five stars once they’ve resolved that problem. Hopefully that is soon. UPDATE: Went back again(because I loves me some dürüm), and they were out of flatbread again. That’s 3 times out of 5. UPDATE: Dürüms are back. +1 star. Still taste great.
