The Muttley Crew

I have used Muttley Crew for grooming for the last 10 months about every 4 – 6 weeks). As a new dog owner, they have really helped guide me through grooming options and hair growth and texture in puppies vs adult dogs. All the people there seem to truly love dogs no matter the breed or size. Recently, we started taking our pup there for doggy day care after ours closed. While I thought it might be a tough transition for him, he (and they) proved me wrong. He comes home more tired than from his last day care and I know he’s been loved on by the folks there. When they describe his quirky hug behavior, I know for sure he loves it there!

I love this place. Pretty sure my dog, Duke a small black cocker spaniel, loves it even more. I take him to get groomed every two months or so. He comes back to me with the exact cut I ask for (we don’t get the «standard» cocker cut) and he is happy happy happy. Also super convenient that they have his dog food there — he typically runs out of food about the same time as he needs a hair cut!
We have seen several different groomers, all have done a fantastic job. We typically ask for «first available» when we set an appointment. I typically will drop him off around 7:30 and pick him up on my way back from work. I love having that flexibility, and Duke loves playing with all the other dogs until I pick him up. I think the price is very fair and I’m more than happy to pay it — although I don’t have much to compare it with (never been to another groomer…)
On a more personal note — these guys truly care about dogs and pets in and outside of work. We found Duke through one of their regular customers that let us know the manager of MC was fostering a dog that needed a new home. I set up an appointment with her to bring him to our house to see if it was a good fit; this little guy stole our heart. She not only fostered him for a long time, but had done a substantial amount of behavior/​training work with him. Three years later, we can’t imagine our lives without this little guy. It is an added bonus that he gets to see his «foster mom» every time we bring him to Muttley Crew.

Superior and awesome staff, in a town where world-​class results are hard to find. Our dogs have never looked so adorable. THANK YOU Muttley Crew!

Jeanne does a great job on our terrier mix. She always looks so cute after her cut and fluff! Our dog really enjoys the free day of doggy daycare, too.

Best daycare ever! I work at a large daycare facility and still take my dog here for daycare, the staff is the best with the dogs and really puts all their attention and care towards the pack. Five stars!

So I have been here a couple times now with my pooch … I can successfully say I recommend the groomers here for any forms of grooming.
From the point when I make the appointment on the phone to dropping my puppy off to picking him up the experiences are incredibly pleasant. They pay attention to my every request and my puppy walks out happy and socialized since they are also a daycare facility.
They do not kennel the dogs while the dog is waiting to be groomed and get to socialize with other puppies. I can notice the difference in my dog when I go pick him up since he doesn’t ever want to leave and their prices aren’t too bad! This is a place that definitely gets my repeat business.

I took my 5 month old puppy to get his first grooming done here. The staff were very friendly and could see I was worried to leave my dog for his first grooming but reassured me that they would treat him as if they were their own. They asked me what I wanted done and how much hair to cut off which I loved that they asked because I did not want it cut too short. Great place for a puppies first time getting groomed. Definitely going back and will recommend to all my friends!

Amazing staff! They are so wonderful, accommodating, & they truly have a connection/​bond with the dogs that they care for!

What a great place for haircuts and doggie daycare! My dog is always happy and tired when she comes home. And her haircuts are adorable!
I would recommend this place to anyone who loves their dog.

Took our 8 year old Pomeranian here for a haircut for the first time since we just recently moved to Portland. They did an amazing job with his cut and did exactly what we asked for! I especially like that when he wasn’t being groomed he was playing with all the other dogs, and he clearly had an awesome play day because he was exhausted when he got home! Will definitely be taking him back for his next haircut!

Very good service; highly recommended. They do great work and are very careful with your animals.

I took my rate terrier in for a nail trimming, without an appointment, and they trimmed him immediately. He didn’t complain once (he’s a big baby), and the trim was perfect. For $ 5, I’m very happy. I’ll be taking our other two dogs here from now on.

This is a wonderful small business that really cares about animals. They treat Kit very tenderly as she gets her nails cut, and I think she knows the place by now and does not even make fuss going into the shop as she may otherwise. Getting her nails done is not for every girl after all. It has now become our monthly tradition or so to go to The Muttley Crew and while there we also get her top quality wild dog food and I pick up an Americano from Poppa’s Haven so everyone comes out a winner. Glad these guys are there.

I needed a new groomer since I have been disappointed with the one I was currently using. I was taking my dog to Petsmart and they didn’t listen on how I wanted my dog groomed, started nickel and diming me on grooming my dogs ($ 12 for a nail trim) and nicked my dogs butt with the shavers. I have also used a mobile pet grooming service but they were very expensive before tipping & the cut was lousy. I also used my old vet’s groomer and she did a good groom but would keep my dogs all day, I would drop them off at 8 and they wouldn’t be ready until 4.
I tried this place for the first time and was really happy with the results! They were really friendly when I checked in, they listened to how I wanted my Westie cut, and they were done with grooming my dog at the time they said they would, plus it was a good price. I will be going back

It was okay. I took my kitten there for a $ 5 nail trim and that’s what I got, a $ 5 nail trim. A woman held him with one hand behind the counter and trimmed his nails with her other available hand. Yes, she got a nice scratch from my lil guy. She did have assistance getting his back feet clipped. I wouldn’t need to go there again. There were some super cute dogs behind the counter though.

I was a first time visitor to this facility, because my previous groomer had mysteriously moved on from where he was working and of course they wouldn’t tell me where he had went. I saw the reviews for this place and assumed it would be a good fit. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.
When I went to drop Mia off the only main, MOST IMPORTANT thing that I mentioned was plucking her ears. She is part poodle and when her ears get all hairy they really bother her. When I picked her up I wasn’t to impressed with the overall groom — she looked practically the same was when I dropped her off, especially in regards to fur length. The most distressing thing was how unorganized they were. Most of the dogs weren’t wearing collars and one of the employees was looking for «Sophie» — he had no idea which dog she was! He kept cornering random dogs asking them if they were Sophie — well of course they can’t respond!
And then I get home and checked on Mia’s ears and they weren’t plucked or shaved out or anything. I’m extremely disappointed and will be moving on to try and find her a decent groomer.

We have taken over a cat that was abandoned, it is a fluffy little female cat, I think a mix between a Calico and a long hair Persian, so very fluffy and long hair. She needed a bath, her fur was full of tiny knots and looked dull. After asking around and reading all the Unilocalers ’ experiences, we decided to try this place even if it was a little bit out of our area, because our cat is a bit too skittish, a little wild, and she is not an easy cat. I am glad we did.
First of all, even if she has this long hair, she was done just within one and half hours, we were expecting like 3 hours or so. Maybe it was a little too loud though, so it is not the ideal place to groom a cat, there were a lot of dogs.
But our cat was sitting, calm and comfy, in her carrier, and was not meowing at all (like she was still doing just when we dropped her off) and seemed really happy to be there, and relaxed. Then wow, what a difference, her her coat was really clean and glossy and she looked absolutely gorgeous. They did a fantastic job, thinking the cat is very shy and skittish and not used to be bathed.

I just took my fluffy dog into the Muttley Crew and I have to tell you, they did a fantastic job on him! This was the first time we have EVER gone to a groomer where my boy came out completely CLEAN, combed out, and oh so spiffy and gorgeous! The best part was that my boy was also very happy there. This is such a warm, friendly, and honest environment. The people there are great with being positive leaders with these dogs and it shows in the dogs behavior. They all feel safe there. I was so very happy and my boy is already scheduled out 5 weeks from now!
If you are looking for top notch grooming, this is the place!

Had my rescue Shih Tzu/​Lhasa Apso cut here and it went decently well. This was his first time here so he was a little scared but I’m sure the next time he’ll be more comfortable. He loves ladies but has to warm up to men usually and a nice lady cut his hair this time. They took the time to let him smell them and cuddle him for a bit before being cut which I’m sure comforted him somewhat. I know this wouldn’t have been done at some chain groomer and it means a lot. There’s also a small play area for the little dogs to socialize after their groom but Wookie was a little shy there too. Looking forward to him enjoying his cuts! I hope.

I have never taken my cat to a groomer. I used to work at an animal hospital and usually just brought him there to get his summer lion shave. I am new to Portland and I heavily rely on fellow Unilocalers to steer me to the right direction and so far I continue to be on a winning streak.
i went on their website to get more info and sent them a message to ask if they groomed cats and what the cost would be. I did not expect to get such a quick response. When we arrived the receptionist went over what they normally do and asked me if there were any special instructions, dropped him off, was allowed to prepay for the service, and got a phone call less than 3 hours later letting me know he was ready to picked up. i thought they did a great job. and my cat seemed to survive the ordeal unscathed. a tad too loud and noisy (it is primarily a dog place) but overall a positive experience!
