The North Face

Size wise, this North Face is incomparable to the one in San Francisco. But what it lacks in size, it makes up for in customer service. Came here twice in my short stay in Portland and was greeted warmly both times. And if I were to have any questions, a staff member was never far away to answer them. Product selection wise, I don’t know what’s different from the other North Face locations or if each store has different merchandise to cater to the area it is at. I did, however, find (and purchased) this really really nice cool jacket at this location… tax free!
Take that and your big store, SF North Face!

But I sure do wish the women’s selection was larger!
This store has a great location, enjoys large windows and contains ample fitting rooms. So why can they not carry more (read variety) items for women? North Face is such a great brand!
The men’s section is huge on the other side, and takes up much more space than the women’s side. Great, and wonderfully large, selection there – the guys should be happy! And face (haha!) it, I love their male items: good-​looking, well-​tailored and great quality.
The store also has a small shoe department which carries a sampling of hiking and running shoes. About 8 different types of sleeping bags were available to peruse, and a sign explained the various camping tents they have. And wayyyy in the back: the children’s stuff! Too cute.
Definitely a store I want to return to, when I have lost the extra pounds… ;o)

Super friendly employees we were greeted as soon as we walked in we were asked if we needed help throughout the store good experience.
They have a lot of sales going on a lot of good products everything you can think of that you need for outdoors.
The kids selection was even stylish I didn’t know they had women training clothes.
They sell the go-​cams here in ski supplies!
You gotta come check the store out!

Always great customer service at this North Face store. I’ve purchased many items from here ranging from a backpack to jackets. Whenever there isn’t a size on the floor the associates are quick to check in the back to see if they have the right size for me. They are also very knowledgeable about the products they sell. I purchased a specialized back pack from the store that had a built in charger and the associate knew all the technical details about it. Although it’s a large retail chain store, you have that family fun feeling when your shopping there.

I want to write this review not only for this store but the awesome policy/​warranty of The North Face!
First, the store. The staff was friendly, attentive, and eager to help me out. It’s a little smaller than the locations up north but they carried a lot products, for the most part.
Now my rave on The North Face’s amazing warranty! I bought a North Face backpack about 5 years ago and over time, it took quite a beating. I noticed a rip at the seam at the bottom of the pack and when I took it to The North Face, they said they will send it in to get it fixed. It took about 2 months but when it arrived, they ended up sending me a whole new one in the latest model. In the meantime, the bf bought me a new North Face pack which also broke (the side pocket cord fell off) and I also had to send that it. They fixed it and sent it back :)
I have 2 other stories about TNF’s awesome return/​exchange/​replacement policy but that was with the Seattle Uville store (which I will write a review for!)

I’m giving The North Face in the Pearl District the highest rating for two reasons: customer service and product selection. I came in to buy a rain jacket, and didn’t realize until I started looking how picky I was. I wanted it to be versatile – lightweight for rain protection in warmer weather, with the ability to layer for warmth when it cools down. They had lots of options, as the assistant manager, Jeff Adelman, showed me. He was not aggressive or pushy, gave me lots of space. And he took his time with me. He knew his stuff, too, giving me great information. I really trusted and appreciated his guidance and suggestions. Found an excellent rain jacket that looks and wears terrifically.

There was so much good stuff here, I was spinning in circles! They have almost everything that you would see on their website!
The employees are friendly, and the store is super clean. they also have a lot of sizes available as well!

Came here looking for a pair of more casual/​formal North Face shoes, which I currently own but are starting to show their age after 3 years. Unfortunately they did not have them in stock, though rumor has it they will be back in the spring/​summer. That said, the sales associate was very attentive and helpful in providing the information I needed.

Oh North Face, your cozy clothing and wonderful window exhibits draw me in every time I pass by. Though I often shop the sale rack and dream about a time when I can be wrapped in your stylish, comfortable clothing non-​stop, for now it’s just a dream.
This location in downtown Portland is large, bright, well-​organized and a nice addition to other shops in the area. For me, it’s also a good reminder that while the prices are comparable to other stores in its midst (a bit spendy) it’s really about getting out and experiencing life and the outdoors that leads to fulfillment. If this can be done is colorful, fancy gear, well, so be it!
Staff at this location have always been the perfect blend of attentive and observant, but largely leaving customers to their own devices until they ask for assistance. To me, this is perfect.
I look forward to visits at North Face, seeing what else might inspire me to get out and live life!

FYI: there’s a North Face outlet 30 minutes driving south on the 5 at Woodburn (tax-​free if I may add). You might get a better deal. BUT, you may not find the item or color you’re looking for there.
Overall? If I can’t find what I want at the outlet, I know I can find it here!

I have been in this store exactly twice. The first time I didn’t buy anything, but had my eye on something. The prices though are pretty high and I wanted to shop around. There doesn’t seem to be much in terms of online coupons or discount from other retailers. You can find some, but they tend to be limited by color and sizes. So, you will pay high prices for most things here.
I returned for the jacket I had considered previously, but they did not have it in the color I wanted. I tried it on in a different color and discovered that I did not really like the fit. I tried on the Thunder jacket. I ended up getting it even though it cost even more than the jacket that I came in for. I generally don’t spend 200+ on a jacket, but I am very happy with this purchase. It is light, warm — and very stylish. It is also backed up by a lifetime warranty.
I would recommend this store and its products. The customer service is good. They will leave you alone to browse and are not intrusive, but they will also happily help you if needed. To me, that is the best approach to customer service — helpful but not lurking.
I don’t think they have a parking lot. As usual, parking downtown can be a big pain. They also close a little earlier than a lot of the stores in the area, ie. 8PM on most days.

Great selection of products, friendly staff, and conveniently located in the Pearl. The only thing stopping me from giving it 4 stars is the price. They manufacture a lot of these products in SE Asia so what’s up with the made is US prices?!

Great outdoor clothing, particularly for colder climates. The store is well-​stocked. The staff are very helpful and willing to provide suggestions of alternative pieces that might better suit one’s needs.

This Pearl District North Face is handsome, welcoming and nicely stocked. I like how their stuff looks and feels, and enjoy coming back rechecking the merchandise. However, because good outdoor gear isn’t cheap, I usually buy on sale, or do a little comparison and later go the North Face Outlet or check out REI.

Great store with fun products, but nothing special. Buy it online, it’s cheaper.

This store is very good. It has everything we would want that a North Face store would carry. Meaning, I wanted to see my floor length down jacket before I bought it but none, or few, stores have it in stores — only online. So, they did not have it on the floor… but NO ONE did.
Location is okay. Parking is the only issue I can think of that we usually can get around.
We can drop off repairs to this location… which we have done one here, and once to the Palo Alto, CA store.
Just for fun, we tallied up how many North Face products we have and are at eleven (11) items. I mention them because some are just too awesome for words:

Excellent customer service. I bought a zip-​up fleece from North Face a couple years back and was so dissapointed when the zipper broke. It sat in my closet for a long time until a friend reminded me of their lifetime warranty. I took it into this location and they happily took the jacket, had me sign a form, and informed me that the jacket would be repaired and then shipped to my address. I was so stoked not to have to wait for a call to pick it up!
Within a couple weeks the jacket arrived, good as new! Now I have my favorite belay jacket back. A company that will repair any of their garments is a company that cares about quality and customer satisfaction.

Denali Jacket.
The standard fleece jacket of NW people. It is on the pricey side but it’s well worth it.
The colors and designs are pretty boring but you’re buying their items for warmth and technology.
As seen being worn from the convinient store to the mall, to the office and to the bar.
The store have a nice staff that will hold items for you upon calling. It’s just too bad that I’m demanding to have a curbside pick up. Sorry they don’t offer such.

I love the north face brand– I could spend a million years shopping here & a million dollars at the register. North face is quality, and you pay a premium for that, but I’m never disappointed. I’d say north face has the «cute factor» down pretty well too (which can be difficult with athletic/​outdoor wear). :)
My boyfriend & I must have spent an hour here on Saturday– doing the «this one, that one, or both» shuffle. Instead of losing patience with us, the north face employees danced right along. What a great time… :)

The way I feel when I walk into The North Face is probably the way Britney Spears feels when she stumbles upon a «Mommy of the Year» award ceremony: It is the mecca of all things great that I will never be able to achieve… nor care to seriously pursue.
Yet, like Britney, I like to pretend. So I make sure to keep up appearances by perusing The North Face every month or so — randomly purchasing articles of unnecessary clothing that would allude to the fact that I participate in activities that would necessitate something called an «Apex Cayenne Thin Air Spectra Multi Anti-​Fog SOD Triclimate Jacket.»
Thorough a variation of skill (or lack there of) and monetary restrictions, I really don’t neeeeeed anything in here. My adventuring days are unfortunately on hold for the moment… or next 20 years.
But every so often when the adventure bug is yelling exceptionally loud, I’ll step inside and allow myself to dream about starring in a Warren Miller film, or backpacking through the Himalayas, or taking a Chadar Ice Trek, or an Icelandic Climbing adventure… or other various activities in, say, Trango, or Greenland, or Shishapangma.
When the bug bites — this is my first stop.
My North Face backpack has outlasted a 6 month trip around the world and three backpacking trips covering both northern and southern Europe and Asia. You’ll pay a heavy load, but the quality will seemingly last you forever.
And what a better excuse to go star in that Warren Miller film than all your cool new gear, man?!?
