I wanted to visit this store today. I’ve been calling since Noon(their supposed opening time). I’ve called a total of six times over the past hour, to make sure they had what I needed, to save myself a trip in case they didn’t. Not one person has picked up the phone once in all the times I’ve called. I don’t know if I want to support a business with my money who can’t even answer their phones. EDIT: It is now 1:30PM. I have called about 20 times in the past 1.5 hours. STILL not one person has picked up the phone. This is just horrible customer service, and I will not be coming here after this experience. A shame, I was really excited to drop a lot of money on some items I’ve been meaning to buy. If you dont get/understand customer service, you shouldnt be in business.

It’s a card/game shop that won’t let you look through their boxes of color-organized Magic cards. No, I would not like to use your in-store computer to browse an online inventory; I would like to rifle through your commons and uncommons with my nerd fingers until I find what I’m looking for.

This is a small store and geared mostly toward Magic the Gathering fans, but they do have a pretty good selection of board games!

A great game store. Quite small, but very well stocked. The guy working in there was also very helpful. We will definitely be checking out this store whenever we are in Portland.

I’ve been into Timevault on numerous occasions because of its convenient location downtown only to find myself completely ignored by anyone who might collect a paycheck there. They appear to have a great collection of games and magic cards but the last three times I walked out without my intended purchase purely because I couldn’t get anyone to help me. The workers were either absent or chatting extensively with other customers who weren’t buying anything. I understand people come wanting a casual atmosphere to hang out in, but it’s still a business. I’ve never been greeted, never once been told«thanks for waiting» or «I’ll be right with you,» and the past couple times never been helped at all before I gave up and left with money unspent. I kept giving them chances and each time was disappointed. I’m honestly not that hard to please. Do they just not care about making sales?

Time Vault Games is different. It has Magic The Gathering cards all over. It has games along the shelves and there is a back room. The back room has rules for the gamers to play by. It’s odd how stores would be focused on one thing — hobbies and comics or just comics. This is a place that focuses on — just games. It is rather hard to find and walk to. It is on Broadway. The small garden in front of the store does help to identify it.

They have the best magic the gathering card prices in town. They ship online and sell in the store which makes them set their prices on competitive levels for online placement.

Walking to catch the bus, I notice a board game store and wander in to warm up a bit and look around. I notice that they have so few Chess or Go sets that I have to ask where they are. Turns out, they had one Chess set and were clueless what I was talking about when I brought up Go. Some board game shop!

Signed up for a MtG Theros pre-release and it turned out great! The crowd was mixed, people were friendly, and I had a great time. Granted I ended up in last place out of 40-odd people, but I still had fun. The staff were polite and pleasant given how busy they were. I am unsure of the prices, having been only to the pre-release event.

Time Vault Games seems to be under the radar of the Portland game scene. Maybe it’s because it’s tucked behind a weird Japanese garden in a random spot on the west side(it is), or maybe it’s because the moment you step in you’re practically swimming in Magic the Gathering cards(also true), or maybe it’s just because it’s kind of overpriced($ 40 for Cards Against Humanity?). But whatever the reason, it deserves more love than it gets. Guardian Games and Red Castle are definitely the big boys in town(rightfully so, they’re great!), but if you ever find yourself on the west side in need of some mana or just a copy of Ticket To Ride, keep Time Vault in the back of your mind.
