Holy moly. The GF Vegan Chocolate Chip Heart cookie was UNREAL. This cookie is packed with a sweet brown sugar taste that melts in your mouth. Tastes even better than a dairy and gluten baked cookie. That’s saying a lot. The apple tart is to die for as well. Highly recommend those two!

Yum. Yum. And yum again. All of their savory items have been so good, I’m excited to go back again and try more.

Oh my! The flakiest breakfast sandwiches I’ve had since going gluten free! The desserts are amazing. Service is always wonderful and their Lone Pine coffee is top notch! Love love love this place!

I live about a mile away from this cute bakery/café, and so a trip there has ended up on my calendar more than once. The chocolate chip cookies are the best I have had in terms of gluten free options. If you are looking for a fail-safe and kid-safe treat, I would go with this one. They have both crispy edges and soft centers, and actually feature that surprising(if not very welcomed) classic chocolate chip cookie flavor. They are studded with nicely-sized(dark, if I remember correctly) chocolate chips, and the sea salt on the top gives them a modestly elegant flair. The lavender cupcakes are dense but tasty, although someone used to light and«gluten-Y» cakes might be less satisfied that I was. They are(pleasantly) chewy, with a mysterious but extremely nice fruity filled-center. The frosting was a bit too sweet and heavy for my tastes, though, and was slightly reminiscent of candied-lavender vegetable shortening(although I am unaware of the actual ingredients). Their raspberry and lemon tarts are fantastic– not overly sweet and, in the summer, often studded with seasonal fruit. The crusts are crumbly and but not too dense. The small, circular chocolate cakes(can’t recall the actual name, they look like miniature bundt cakes) are good if not a bit dry the first day, but given 24hrs in the fridge and eaten cold, are fantastic. The only reason that I would give Tula 4 stars instead of 5 is the following: Their curry vegetable hand pie was very dry and«cardboard-y», and was warmed promptly at my request but remained cold inside(think cold curry sauce and veggies inside thin, salty card stock). Never the less, the experience wasn’t bad enough to override the lovely baked goods. The coffee was average, and took about ten minutes to get to me although the place was not busy. Long enough for me to use their bathrooms and warm up a bit after being out in the cold, though. All in all, I would rate Tula to be a great source of tasty and dietary-restriction friendly treats that can be enjoyed by both the food-sensitive AND their gluten and dairy eating siblings, parents, and grandmothers. Give it them a try, especially their chocolate chip cookies.

We tried the breakfast wraps which were something like thick crepes wrapped around various savory fillings. They had a good flavor but were a bit mushy. We also tried the pumpkin muffin with maple cream cheese frosting which was ok and the chocolate muffin which was by far the winner as far as flavor and consistency. There were a lot of other options I didn’t try so I’d be willing to go back and check it out but its a bit pricey for 3 out of 4 items to be generally underwhelming.

OMG the Unilocal community is right on. I was at the gym next door and decided I wanted a post work out snack: Enter Tula’s! I got the sea salt chocolate chip cookie — so delicious. Doesn’t taste like anything gluten free. I tasted a hint of gingerbread or some other spice — it was delicious! I also got the caramel latte, which was exquisite as well. Love this place!

Holy Moley! I just wanted to check this place out because I drive past it all the time and never get a chance to stop in. I just had a bite of a sea salt chocolate cookie and it’s the best thing I have ever put in my mouth. Of course, I did the happy food dance! I bought a box full of treats that I will make sure I review later. YUM!

A place where we can finally have baked goods! Other places are so limiting when you can’t have gluten. The space is nice and airy. I like the line of seats facing the street for singles that are not part of a party. This is my go to coffee place in Portland.

Obviously very passionate about what they do. Get the take home focaccia and don’t bother thanking me later, because I’m just some guy on the Internet. But, y’know, you’ll want to.

I’m not gluten-free or vegan and have no food allergies, so I can eat pretty much anything. I choose Tula because it’s got really good food, small dishes that are perfect after going to the gym, and because my friends who do have dietary restrictions can enjoy eating there too. Very spacious with a laid back atmosphere and friendly service.

Very thoughtful about food allergies. All the food is labeled with common allergens. Delicious treats and breakfast sandwiches and amazing drinks. Crème de la earl grey is my fav.

We have been going to Tula for a while, and I finally wanted to do a review for them. Who knew that gluten free could taste so amazing? We’ve tried the focaccia bread, all three scones(cheddar parmesan, walnut jam and currant buttermilk, and the sea salt chocolate chip cookie. All were delicious! The space is nice and open with high ceilings and walls of windows. Plenty of seating, and very friendly service each time I’ve been in. They’ve done a great job, and we will keep going back. Nice work Tula!

Pretty cool place! I’ve been wanting to check it out for a while but was turned off by being off of MLK(noise concern) however after sitting inside I didn’t hear much traffic noise :) The employees were really chill, lots of food options(baked good, breakfast, lunch) made there, and tasty drinks. The space is a decent size with lots of bar-style seating and couple larger tables for two groups tops. I’ll definitely return for some quiet reading.

Tula’s is a lot of the things I want from a small café: delicious food, friendly service, fresh baked and locally sourced. The maple lattes are hard to beat on a cold rainy winter’s day. But I’ll be honest — it’s pricey for the area, very pricey for the neighborhood it’s become a part of. I know Alberta is a rapidly gentrifying area, and I work at a small Black/minority-issues newspaper around the corner. I dream while hunched over at my desk of eating a fresh salad or a cup of homemade soup for lunch, but I know what freelancing, being brown, poor, young, and hungry mean. I will have to buy something less healthy, less local, less good-for-me and my environment, probably at the 7 – 11, at the pizza hut, at the KFC. This is our paper’s closest café, but none of us, not editor or publisher or writers or advertisers or interns, can afford to eat here. Every time I walk in there I notice there isn’t a lot of people that look like us there either. And it’s not that we don’t like the place. All of us — every single one of us — have all mentioned how, when we can afford to eat there, it’s amazing. It’s one of the only healthy local food options within walking distance. If you have a lot of money and you’re in the area, and you need a great place to sit and write, or if you’re just giving up and splurging, certainly this is a great place to go. I’m addicted to their gluten free bread, and I am not at all gluten free in my regular diet. I love their vegan soups, even though I am not regularly a vegan. I admire their ability to bring untraditional food options to the public and make them extremely palatable. But it’s just a lot. I have mixed feelings about this wonderful place. I love it, but as Alberta stretches out onto MLK, I know it’s the beginning of the end for this corner of town soon too. The number 6 bus out front delivers locals switching to the 72, but see how many people riding the bus can take a moment to go inside. There’s a discrepancy and I can’t help but notice it. I’ll keep coming here whenever I’ve got a bit of extra cash though. Amazing panini, lattes, and just really the most wonderful service. The people here are out of this world friendly and I’m 100% sure their hearts are in the right place.

A wonderful gluten free bakery with affordable options in the heart of northeast Portland. Fresh baked goods like banana flaxseed bread, chocolate coffee cake, sea salt chocolate chip cookie and yummy food like salad with orange cumin dressings or carrot curry ginger. Loved loved loved it

Love the gluten-free and dairy-free options. The sea salt chocolate chip cookies and the orange almond olive oil cake makes you forget you’re even eating gluten free. Too bad their customer service is far from outgoing. I just won’t try to make conversation when I’m there. It’ll be all about the cookies.

The food is extremely expensive, but very good. I appreciate how large and clean the space is. Their hours are very limited so I’m not sure who exactly their target market is. They aren’t open early enough to cater to professionals that have to be to work early, and close before I get home from work. The coffee that they serve is terrible. Very acidic and weak. They serve Lone Pine Coffee from Bend, which isn’t normally so bad. I’m not sure if it’s the water their using, brew method, etc, It’s bad. They do have nice options on their coffee bar — several different sweeteners and cream. I just wish the coffee didn’t taste awful to begin with!

I began going here to make nice with my Mother In-law who is GF. But on those visits of make nicety, I began ordering things for myself. Well, wouldn’t you know that I didn’t make it one block before destroying the entire Lemon Ricotta Muffin. Now, I go here for myself, and highly recommend to anyone, whether they’re GF, VF, BF, STFU, WTF, or otherwise. It’s just plain good!

I’m something of a gluten-hoover but I admit that even at the price of $ 6.55, I’d be a nicer person if I started every day with the lemon ricotta muffin($ 3.30) and a small latte($ 3.25). I think even the small is a double-shot because I am shaking with potential right now. Note that the hours are restricted for the summer, NEWSUMMERHOURS: Mon-Sat 8am-4pm and Sun 8am-3pm
