The water was good. The salads come with watered down ranch dressing and white lettuce. The miso soup is incredibly salty, I love miso but this was a bowl of salt. I tried the spicy salmon roll and sexy sexy roll, very bland and had an odd after taste that made me not eat anymore of it. The spicy pork with veggies was bland. If you’re sensing a theme it was bland. I won’t be returning, I highly recommend Uchu instead, cause it actually has flavor.

I love this neighborhood spot! Great prices for fresh sushi. The chef/owner says little but his food speaks for itself. The servers are always friendly and attentive.

So so sushi. Took an hour from the time we entered to get served. Skimpy overpriced rolls. Even the nigiri was smaller than I’ve seen elsewhere. We split a jellybean sized lump of wasabi. We asked for extra ginger because we were given about a thimble full. The two of us had $ 30 of sushi, only tea for beverage. We would have ordered more food but didn’t want to wait another hour, so when we finished our meal we walked a couple doors down and ordered a couple tacos. And we are not heavy eaters. I feel sorry for the 4 tables that hadn’t been served yet.

I’m so disappointed. Coming here since 2006 and think this is the last time. Salmon roll was missing salmon and had straight up mayo, not the spicy mayo I requested. I held my breath the entire time I said I couldn’t pay for this roll, as I didn’t want to incur the wrath of the owner. Then my kid knocked over water and I just knew, there was a meaning to this

Top notch, quiet little sushi place that is our secret spot to get tasty sushi. The owner and his wife are very polite and service is quick. I love that I can order my dinner to go! You must try the King of Hawaii roll and the Smokey Bear if they have it.

I want to be kind so let me find something positive… well. if you really like supermarket sushi and always wondered how it would be if it hadn’t been in the cooler for several hours. this could be your place. Nothing we ordered was good and we ordered a lot. My advice is be very careful about going to this place. Really it’s just don’t go.

had dinner there today, was greeted by server who was very nice & attentive. Ordered $ 60 worth of sushi between me & my boyfriend & we both left very angry about how bad the food was. We’ve been here about a year and a half ago, & it was just ok then. This time the sushi was very bland, the avocado in my rolls were very mushy and very brown. The fish was skimped a bit, the rolls were a lot thinner than the average out there, & completely fell apart when you picked it up. I hope the quality of their food improves. Next time I crave sushi I’ll be driving to Miho on Killingsworth.

Very delicious sushi but the fish was a little too warm for me. When we first walked into the Ukiyoe we were greeted by this lady in a komono. She immediately started putting the tables together because we had a lot of people. The menu was very sticky and it wouldn’t be that much time to just wipe them down with a wet rag. So that would bring it down to a 3 star rating.

The food was just ok, for that I’ll give 2 stars. Unfortunately our attention was distracted by the sticky dirty table and the soy sauce and gross food smears all over the sticky laminated menus the moment we sat down. None of the condiments on the table were clean either. I worked in restaurants and bars for 20 years and truth of the matter is if things are this unclean in the part you can see, almost certainly the part you can’t see is worse. Yukky-oe. We’ll never be back.

It wasn’t the worst vegan sushi I’d ever had in my life, and the Yakisoba also wasn’t the WORST Yakisoba I’d ever eaten, though I cannot exactly start with a raving review of OMGYOUHAVETOTRYSOMEMEDIOCREFOOD. I guess I could but it would be disingenuous to both you the reader and me as the reviewer! Service was satisfactory which is fine, they would come around to fill our water, so that’s a perk… Also the food came relatively quickly so there wasn’t a lot of sitting around and waiting to imbibe upon the foodstuffs. Was it expensive? Sure, let’s say that it was… If we do the ‘price per person’ model which Unilocal seems to enjoy… it would have come out to ~$ 20 per person, and cmon I’m talking Vegan sushi, which is mainly rice. You’re not having to go out to sea and cart in some fish… This is shelfware vegetables. No reason that it need to be priced aligned with more precious commodity non-renewable fish based sushi’s. I get it, capitalism and all but seriously? The water was fairly tasty though, I particularly like how wet it was, very water-like. So I guess if you’re looking for mediocre sushi and some pretty tasty water, this may be the perfect date destination! The perfect recipe for marriage!

We liked how many vegetarian rolls were on the menu. Everything we tried was delicious. The Walla Walla and Super Vegi rolls were my favorites.

Best sushi I’ve had in years, hands down. Very good Northwest take on some of the rolls. The Walla Walla roll is so good my mouth waters typing this. I think the Ruby Crunch roll may be my favorite of all. Can’t go wrong with the Oregon, Alaska, or Spicy Tuna either.

The veggie tempura was good and the ginger dipping sauce was different in the best way possible. I saved some for dipping my sushi. The sushi rolls were delicious, oregon roll being my favorite. The ruby crunch was my second favorite. The more expensive rolls(still reasonable prices) are definitely worth the upgrade. Presentation was delightful. Left stuffed from 2 rolls and split the tempura amongst 3 people.

Great options for vegans. Whole section of vegan rolls(sweet potato tempura rolls, rolls with vegan cream cheese, etc.). Sweet tofu teriyaki was amazing. Staff was quick, friendly and knowledgeable.

We have been coming here for a long time — always great food! The owners — a husband and wife team are always here and very hard working! There are so many different rolls to choose from. I highly recommend the«yummy yummy» roll. Or whatever the owner recommends. Never really busy and turnaround time is good. Nice presentation, love all the rolls I’ve tried. Only thing I’d honestly change is the music. I love Japanese music while I’m eating sushi instead of the rock n’ roll. But aside from that, love the sushi!

The saddest food I’ve had in a long time. The sushi had the smallest amount of the oldest and slimiest fish they could find and then they rolled it up in gross sloppy rice. I strongly discourage you from eating here.

Smoky the bear is a fantastic roll if you like smoked fish. The magic roll is a close second. Awesome little place that is never very crowded, and is run by a cute husband and wife team. Will def be back!

If you have a Groupon for this place, READTHEFINEPRINT!!! Lesson learned a little too late for me. Rules state that there must be at least 2 persons in the dining party. I didn’t see that(my fault, I admit), but here’s why I had a problem with how they handled the situation… I’ve eaten here(without any coupons or discounts) 3 times in less than two months. In other words, I was becoming a regular repeat customer. So, I show up alone, the owner’s wife seats me, then goes to get my water and menu. I pull out my Groupon and place it on the table INCLEARVIEW. She comes back with my menu and water, then several minutes later returns to take my order(the Groupon is still on the table). Awhile later, she brings my food. I eat, then ask her for a small to-go box. She brings the box and the check. She sets them down and says(pretending to be surprised) «Oh, you want to pay with GROUPON? That’s only good for two people, not just one… you must have TWO people in your party to use, you can’t use by yourself» and she walks away. I read the rules and sure enough that’s what it says. Okay, my bad for not reading the fine print, yes. BUT, why didn’t she say something when I placed my order??? Seriously. I wouldn’t have ordered $ 22 of sushi just for myself without the Groupon. At this point, being an owner and more than likely remembering me from previous visits, she could have just let it slide, knowing that I would likely continue to eat there occasionally. But no, I paid the full bill, plus a $ 3 tip, no Groupon. AND, I only had 2 days before it expired, so I ended up canceling plan that I’d had for over a month just to come back here the next night(with my daughter) to use the Groupon. Ugh! So here’s the irony… when I went alone, I ordered $ 22 food, but tonight with two people we only ordered $ 20 food. So what a stupid decision for the owner to not let me use the Groupon by myself just as a good customer service gesture to keep a repeat customer. Because guess what, now I will NEVER eat here again and neither will my daughter and her fiancé. Too bad some owners don’t understand the value of customer loyalty :(there are many stores, restaurants and other businesses that I have been a frequent customer at for over 20/years solely because of excellent customer service.

I had a pretty nice meal here with some friends that live in the neighborhood. I was greeted casually to a cafeteria ambiance. Took a little bit for them to ask for my drink order while I waited for my friends. My friends took over the ordering, I didn’t mind, I threw in my suggestions. $ 67 for dinner and beers for 3. We shared some assorted rolls. The flavor was good. This place was satisfactory, not remarkable.

This is a good simple sushi place. Is it amazing? No. But it’s still good. I used to live right around the corner from Ukiyoe and would go about once every 2 months or so with my roommates. The prices are fair, so you can try a variety of rolls and share them with your party while not breaking the bank, so that’s nice. I never feel cheated or like I overpaid for anything, so over all its a good value. The restaurant was recently remodeled and it was a nice change. They have new wall hangings, and the whole place just seems a lot nicer. Everything is neatly put together, and it is very open. The service is also good. I’ve never had to wait for a long time, ask for a refill, or had any issues at all. The staff is always friendly and really attentive, so no complaints on that front. The food quality is average, nothing to write home about, but it’s pleasant. I personally like places that are little more adventurous and play outside box, but Ukiyoe plays safe. There a couple of sushi rolls that are different, but as a whole it’s not anything you can’t find anywhere else. The bottom line is that this is a safe sushi place where you know what you’re going to get. You won’t be disappointed, but you won’t have your mind blown either.
