Just a great classic sandwich shop! I got the salami and avocado sandwich which I thought was an interesting combo but hey I like both a lot so why not! It was served on focaccia and was very good. It’s clean. Lots of options. They serve Doritos. And the staff was friendly.

this place looks like a hole in the wall inside and out, but don’t let that scare you away. it’s located just outside the old port, so maybe that’s how they get away with charging so little for the world’s best sandwiches. maybe they’re just taking a loss on every delicious sandwich they sell. all i know for sure is this: vaughan is the best place to grab food on the west end if you’re not trying to sit down and drop 50 bucks, and i recommend it as the go-to lunch spot for anyone who’s even just passing thru portland.

VS is the bomb-diggity. The focaccia bread will never disappoint, and if you don’t like any of the combinations from their amazing menu offerings, you can make your own sandwich! A perfect stop pre beach or picnic this summer!

Vaughan Street Variety is a hidden gem tucked into Portland’s West End. It’s a gourmet deli offering a plethora of delicious and unique sandwiches, wraps, soups and salads. You can get everything from a standard Italian sandwich with Lays potato chips to a an arugula salad topped with berries, honeyed goat cheese, almonds and balsamic. The gourmet sandwiches include interesting ingredients like mango chutney. The Mexican wrap is a flavor explosion of seasoned potatoes, black beans and rice, salsa and guacamole that’s only offered as a special and sells out fast! My husband goes nuts for the falafel wrap. The owners signature soups like carrot dill, roasted cauliflower, gazpacho, and my personal favorite sweet Italian sausage(a light tomato based hearty soup I eat year round) are delicious on their own or as an addition to any sandwich or salad. They offer a wide arrange of drinks, chips and sweet treats featuring Annie’s Kitchen that makes it a well-rounded lunch joint with things you could also bring home for dinner. The owners Martha and Jeff are just the kind of shop owners you want to deal with; the staff is friendly, efficient and are sandwich artists for sure. VS offers catering as well, and the food does not lose quality in large quantities. If you’re in Portland looking for lunch, VS won’t disappoint.

A great place for tasty sandwiches! Most everything is tasty but I haven’t had it all yet. I can’t think of any sandwich I haven’t liked. The wraps are a great size and the focaccia is so soft and savory. They often have specials which are great! I also like the ready to go sandwiches they make fresh for the lunch rush. They aren’t ever soggy or old seeming!

This mom-and-pop sandwich shop is my first stop when I’m visiting Portland. And it’s the BOMB. Super-fresh, inventive flavor combinations… made with a ton of love and care(#8, turkey/mango chutney on focaccia is downright addictive). The daily specials are awesome, too. Show Jeff and Martha MacDougal(the awesome owners) a little love, and get a lot more in return!
