I drove by this place the other day and I was struck by the number of birders intently perusing various fowl. I stopped and climbed the short wheel-chair accessible ramp and lo and behold, got to see tundra swans frolicking in the water(and northern shovelers)! Who knew that Sauvie’s island was such a birdwatcher’s delight? In addition to the swans, I also got to see a tree with over 10 nesting blue cranes and a bald eagle perched at the top. Recommended: binoculars. Ask the folks around what they are watching…
