Ward Bob Chevron Service

One of the friendliest gas stations in town. I’ve been filling up here for 10+ years, there’s very low turnover, so employees are staying for a reason. There’s 3 – 4 regulars who provide consist good service.

I’m usually advised to go inside if I’m paying cash at other locations. But I didn’t need to here, it was nice because it was pouring rain. Nice fellas.

This place used to have great service, but not anymore. Three guys stood and watched as I washed my own windows.

Has been our neighborhood gas station for 15 years, & some of the attendants have worked there for most of that time! They almost always offer to check your oil, & almost always automatically clean your windshield! It’s the small things, but this station really does stand out & above the rest!

Had to stop for gas in Portland on our way from Astoria to Powells Books. The station attendant was very nice, and the restroom clean and well maintained.

One day my car wouldn’t start. Tried jumping the battery, but that didn’t fix it. Thank goodness Bob Ward’s Hollywood Chevron still has garage bays for car repairs and is only 5 blocks from my house. We hooked my car to my husband’s and towed it there, thus avoiding the expense and hassle of a tow service. The mechanic figured out that the problem lay in an alarm system thing-​y installed by the dealer. Even though it wasn’t activated, it still formed a switch of sorts between the engine and ignition. The battery inside the thing-​y died (after 17 years!), cutting the signal from the ignition to the engine. The mechanic removed the alarm thing-​y, and problem solved. He said it was rare to see them anymore. I was glad for his years of experience, as a younger mechanic may not have known to check for such a thing. They told me that Chevron keeps urging them to conver their garage bays to a food mini-​mart, but they stubbornly resist. I, for one, am very glad!

Lost is the old fashioned gas station where you are offered and oil change and your windshield is cleaned without a vagrant expecting cash in exchange. You are no longer greeted with a smile and small talk, while your tank is being filled. Pride is no longer taken into account.
I have found a place where this dream is still alive.
I rolled up one day, bordering on empty. It was hot and I was frazzled. I was greeted with a smile & offered an oil check and a windshield cleaning — no extra charge. I was in shock. My last trip to Costco was sterile and consisted of entering my pin. There were no pleasantries or conversation (not that I need it). The price at Costco was less — but so was the human decency. I know times are tough, but I’d rather have a modicum of self respect than be tossed off as another notch in the payment column. I’d rather pay 2¢ more a gallon for common courtesy than to waste time and energy trying to find a deal at a mega store. They honored my request and didn’t violate my floater by topping it off.
It is a refreshing change to find dignity and respect in this penny pinching world. It is a small, local business. I want them to stay and so I go there rather than the Ultimart. There I’m a human being for a moment.
They have a service center that I have not yet had an opportunity to take part in, but if their service is any indication of the quality of their work, I would take my car to them any day.
