Well Suited

I needed a suit, and a friend of mine recommended this place. SO GLAD I CAME TO WELL SUITED! Plainly speaking, I needed someone to ‘hold my hand’, and that’s what I got: a great all occasions suit, along with some friendly fashion advise (do’s and don’t). My event went off PERFECTLY, and I thank WELL SUITED for that. THANK YOU HENRY! :-)

The owner of this suit shop clearly knows his stuff. One look at my fiancé and he already knew what size he was. He grabbed a jacket, threw it over my fiancé’s shoulders and it fit perfectly. You can customize your suits and there is a book on the table that allows you to see what styles and fabrics you can order the suits in. Of course, you can also get the suits tailored. We weren’t really sure yet what exactly we were looking for when we walked in and decided to come back later. The man was friendly enough to write down exactly what measurements and brand the suit that we looked at was. Their selection of sports jackets aren’t super great but I believe that their custom ordered suits is very promising for a future purchase

I needed my one-​suit-​for-​everything-​including-​my-​upcoming-​wedding, as the only other suit I’ve ever owned finally succumbed to two small moth holes and one very strong opinion about the size of the shoulder pads.
I hate shopping, especially for clothes, so I was dreading the day (and possibly weekend) my fiancée and I had set aside to find a wedding suit. Well-​Suited was our first stop as it was closest to where we live and had good reviews.
Shortly after we entered the store, we were greeted warmly by Henry. We told him we needed a suit for a wedding in the immediate term but something as a go-​to for those occasional future formal events (most likely funerals as I’m the last of my pack to get married). My fiancée thought it best to start with something charcoal colored but we weren’t sure about anything more than that. He sized me up by eye, said I looked like a 38, grabbed a charcoal colored suit from a nearby rack and said, let’s start with this. A few minutes later, I stepped out of the dressing room looking a lot sharper than I thought possible. The fit was incredible and feel was wonderfully comfortable. A very lightweight wool which he told me would work well in the summer time as well. And I didn’t look like David Byrne in Stop Making Sense. More importantly, my fiancée (now wife) had this look of overwhelming approval (and she is picky).
As he was marking up the cuffs for tailoring, it dawned on me that this guy simply nailed it for us. And he did it in a very down-​to-​earth, genuinely helpful manner.
I can’t say you will have the same fortune that I did, but I would definitely recommend you start here. Henry knows his suits and has what I (and more importantly my wife) consider a good sense of style. Not only that, his prices are very reasonable. I even checked online to compare prices and was impressed to see that Well Suited’s price for my suit was the lowest I could find.
I rarely say this but I couldn’t be happier.

My favorite story about this place is when my son, then 16, told me on a Saturday morning if he was going to a semi formal dance at St. Mary’s Academy that very night. I panicked. However, within 30 minutes we were heading over to well-​suited for consult.
By the end of the day, I picked up a fully tailored suit which fit my son perfectly. We had picked up a shirt, tie, and a suit off for less than $ 200. We were treated like royalty.
I have been into well-​suited several times and really have appreciated the excellent service and spirit within which the store seems to flourish.
My only concern was when I visited one time with someone who was trans identified. The store did not carry any items in size extra small, so therefore there was nothing that fit my friend. I believe that the store in general isvery LGBTQ friendly. Therefore it’s surprising that they don’t appear to be catering to the obvious niche market for trans identified males.
Hopefully this one criticism will be cured over time. I think the neighborhood and indeed the city is fortunate to have this wonderful business available.

Went in here on a whim in September, I needed a suit in a bad way. You see I was getting married but I didnt want to tell sales people I needed a wedding suit because anytime you mention «wedding» everything seems to go up in price. The two guys working were amazing, got me the nicest suit I have ever owned for about ½ what I was planning on spending.
Tailoring was also perfect, quick and affordable.
Will definitely be my first stop in the future whenever I need some nicer digs, or some tailoring.
Also: cmon Unilocalers — why listen to someone throwing false accusations of racism blindly at a store like these guys. If your boyfriend was a top designer then he would know what size suit he wears. I am a total gump when it comes to this and I know I am a 42R. Jeesh.

I went into this store today in order to get measured for a suit. I am getting married over seas in a few months and will be renting a suit when I get to to location of the wedding. The suit rental company had asked me to provide my measurement prior to arrival so they can have as close of a fit as possible ready.
I explained this to the gentleman I met in well suited and asked if he could take my measurements. His reply was, «There is no way I could do that». I initially thought he was unwilling to do this as his concern was supplying measurements for a suit that may not fit, when I try it on, but when I explained that it can be altered if that is the case and I just wanted ballpark numbers his response was the same.
I can only conclude that either he does not know how to take measurements or that he was unwilling to do so because it did not mean business for him. Either way it is enough to put me off going to this store when I want to buy a suit.
I went to a tailor down the road who took my measurements without issue. Before starting he informed me that there is a $ 5 fee for such which I gladly paid.

Not impressed, to say the least. ( Unilocal, please come up with a zero star option! This place would have it!!!)
My boyfriend and I walked in there on a Friday afternoon looking for some attire for a gala. Not another soul was in the store, except the man working there who barely spoke a peep of «hello.» After we perused a bit, my boyfriend approached the man and asked if they had any crushed velvet sport coats. The man’s response, «Ha! Haven’t seen one of those in 15 years.» («Funny,» I thought, «We JUST saw a few at Nordstrom.»)
Hmmm…ok, so my boyfriend turned around and began thumbing through the sport coats. Not much. He pulled one off to try on. Not great. Another… too tight. He said to the man, «What size would you recommend for me? I tend to be larger across the shoulders.» The man peered up from ten feet away and hollered, «A 46.» Hmmm… ok, again. So, we keep looking. And not a word from the man.
My boyfriend then tries on another. It’s moderately do-​able. He walks over to the man as he is wearing the sport coat and asks, «This is obviously a bit long. What would your cost be for tailoring this?» Them man doesn’t even jostle the sport coal around, have my boyfriend spin around, or anything. He looks at him and says, «Well, you’re wearing a „long“ so probably around $ 85.»…crickets. Thanks, jerk!
After coming up short, I said to my boyfriend, «I’m actually not even interested in support a$$holes like this. Ready to go?!» We wandered out and were completely unimpressed.
A few tips for the store:
1. Just because a black man walks into your store, doesn’t mean you are going to get robbed. Make note that this actually used to predominantly be an African American ‘hood.
2. You just snobbishly turned down one of NYC’s top designers (ok, from a few years ago, but still.) …Might not want to be a dick next time you see someone outside of your race come in.
3. Thanks for not asking the following, «What brings you in today?», «Are you looking for anything in particular?», «What type of event are you going to?», or «Can I help you find a size?»…otherwise, we probably would have supported your store.

We went to Well Suited to look for a suit for our Wedding Day. They had a great selection and a very friendly staff. Howard was really sweet and knowledgeable. He was an A+ sales rep. Sadly we didn’t find anything that we completely fell in love with but we would definitely come back to Well Suited for all of our formal men’s wear needs.

Upon return for my suit I found it to fit much better then before. The tailor listened to my opinion and I had a concern over the length and that it wasn’t too fitted. He said «no problem» and measured it to MY taste and even told me he would have it read for me TOMORROW! Very attentive and understood my style. It’s a suit and I am picky with the fitting and was treated with a smile the whole way.

Better walk in waving cash in your hand or dress in your Sunday BEST… cause the staff will not even look at you nor say hello… this is a neighborhood store and well I choose to go to other men’s consignment shops… especially the one on NW 23^rd.

If I had reviewed Well Suited two weeks ago, I would have given it five stars. I bought my first «real» suit here a few years ago and had it tailored. Since then I’ve bought a few other items, and I even trusted them to tailor everything for my wedding day including a few items from Brooks Brothers that are certainly outside of my typical attire. Everything has been perfect!
Unfortunately I’m reviewing today and if I could give zero stars… I would!
Saturday I had just picked up a tux for a wedding I’m in that’s in three weeks. They were graciously paid for by the groom but mine is in dire need of tailoring. I opted out of the tailoring with the suit specifically so I could bring it in to well suited. I was greeted, not by the owner (who sat down having a casual conversation for a few minutes rather than greeting myself or the other customers who had just walked in), not by the tailor (who shyly wandered around avoiding conversation), but by a large bold sign stating «ATTENTION: Tailoring services for in house purchases ONLY!»
Wow.
Really?
I opted to clarify with Larry the tailor anyway because I was already there, tux in hand, and he confirmed that he couldn’t help me out. When I asked for a local recommendation he said something to the effect of «I can’t recommend anyone that I would stake my reputation on» SUPER HELPFUL THANKS.
I’m sorry to say, but I don’t think you have to worry about your reputation with this type of business practice. I can’t understand it. If you’re too backed up or not making enough, then raise the prices or increase the wait time. Offer a discount for in-​house purchase tailoring.
I hate to write this review because I’ve been recommending this place for tailoring for years, but come on!

Small store with a variety of new and gently used items from formal suits to more casual items like leather jackets. Great service and very experienced, knowledgeable staff.
We were travelling from out of town and only had a short timeframe. They were able to find the perfect suit, and have it tailored in time. They even made some additional minor adjustments after the final fitting.
It seems that they get new items on a regular basis so if we had more time, there would have been even more options! Very reasonable prices and good selection.
It is nice to get suited by an experienced professional who knows how to make you look good. They will help you take the guess work out of daunting, pricey and usually time consuming task (in my opinion).

I just moved to the area and I must say what a wonderful experience it has been working with Larry Lefler for alterations. I have even been twice in one week! I am not good with needle and thread and Larry fixed two holes, one in a sweater, the other a dress, plus he went above and beyond to secure a strap on a dress so it wouldn’t happen again. I also just went in to add straps to a sun dress. TEN STAR SERVICE and the price is right!
Second review… As of ¹¹⁄₂₁ Larry comes through again! I had this skirt I debated donating for years. However it was pricey when I bought it in 2006 :-0 and since then became 3 sizes too big. Larry made it just like new, I couldn’t even tell that it was in the hands of a tailor! It was a bit complicated due too all the layers. I will continue to tout the talents of Larry Lefler!

This old dog needed a suit.
I asked around and this is the place that came up several times.
We strolled in on a sunny Saturday and I was completely smitten with the service I then received.
I bought a suit that very day (well, my wife bought it for me).
I LOVE Well Suited and will not only return there and only there for my more formal needs –but– will be spreading the word high and low that these guys kick ass!

This man can just eyeball me and know how much to take in, how short/​how long to hem my jeans, pants, whatever, I have been going to him for so long.
Just yesterday I picked up my Dolce & Gabbana jacket from him. I had the sleeves shortened. His work is perfect of course. I wouldn’t trust a jacket like that to just any old hack. Larry is the best. Larry’s tailoring has been consistently terrific over the past 10 years.
I’ve taken wide leg jeans in and had him convert them into skinny jeans and Presto! Chango! New wardrobe! Of course I can’t change them back to the wideleg but the ride has got to end somewhere.
For you men, while you are there, check out the shop. They sell top-​notch, gently-​used designer men’s clothing. You fellas are lucky to have a shop like this.
The only catch, payment for tailoring is cash only. The retail store takes debit/​credit.

I have been going to Well Suited for 13 years. Henry, the owner, is a pioneer in the field of «gently used» designer clothing. Yes, you could buy new. But people once bought brand new Yugos. I’ll take a $ 1500, well-​designed Italian suit with wonderful fabric and tailoring used for $ 300 over a new Nordstrom suit any day. I hate to give this place such a high grade, for fear that more customers will compete for my finds. I refuse to sell my better kidney (the left one) in order to shop at Mario’s. Instead, I will continue to be well suited.

Tailoring here was superb. Great consultation and service provided to even a dumpy late 20’s guy like myself with a visible lack of excess cash. I was expecting the prices to be higher when I picked up my claim check and was very happy to learn I got a tux jacket and pants, other suit jacket and pants, and shirt all fitted to me for $ 45. Not just hemmed (ok … one pair of pants were just hemmed) but fitted. Fantastic.
The prices on shirts and shoes seem high, but suits can be a bargain.

I know zilch about suits. When I told my friend about how I needed a suit for my sisters wedding, he went on and on about breaks and lengths and I just wanted him to do the whole process for me.
He wouldn’t, but the people at Well Suited probably did better than he would. I walked in without knowing what size I was and they got me measured up and a few options were selected for me. I picked one out, they took my measurements and then I returned a few days laters for a fitting. I needed just a few adjustments and a few more days later I had a perfectly fitted suit.
Awesome — especially for around $ 200. Incredibly friendly people work there and they’re quick!

My name is Andy, and I’m a recovering schlub. It’s been 9 months since the last time I wore draw-​string pants and a torn sweatshirt in public. I am trying to push forward with my schlub-​free lifestyle, but it’s been tough. My continuing urge to wear cheap, loose-​fitting cotton-​polyester blends has crippled my progress.
It’s been much easier since I strolled into Well Suited. They don’t always have the best used stuff in the store, but the new stuff is still affordable, and everything can be modified by the in-​house tailor (an exceedingly shy man, but one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet), and for cheap.
Now all I need to do is make amends to all the people whose sensibilities my schlubiness offended for all those years…
