Amazing fried fish sandwich! Yum yum yum! Kind of a bummer that they are closed Monday’s and Sunday’s.

This is a gem. The guy was really awesome and the food was amazing. The clam chowder is the best clam chowder I have ever had. This place is perfect for anytime of the year but that bowl of soup on a cold day really makes you smile :)

We always get the $ 10 fish & chips & chowder combo, and can hardly ever finish it. So good and cheap. I love coming here on a rainy day and sitting in the covered area next to the space heaters and eating comfort food from this place.

They offer an amazing gluten free batter for the fish and chips! Choice of cod or snapper? yes, please. They also made us gluten free buffalo style shrimp, which were more of a jumbo prawn and packed with flavor. I am blown away by not only the delicious food, but the friendliness of the owner and willingness to provide gluten free options for Celiacs. I will definitely be returning!

Delicious! I had the cod and chips, the breeding is a crispy, flaky breading that complimented the fresh fish. The chips are the big wedge of potato still with the skin on– so yummy! My only regret is not getting two of the tartar sauce(to dip my chips) not sure if it’s homemade but sure tasted like it. It is creamy with just the right amount of pickle and dill. I will be back!

Tried the fried clams here today. They were very tasty! It was nice to see how much care the owner had for his food, you don’t always get that. $ 3 for a small was a very reasonable price for the portion you get.

I love that they are open past 9 on a Friday, and the chowder tastes like it is supposed to. The prices are really good for seafood and I really think that for a food cart, the location is great. Will definitely be coming back again!

I’m not a fond of places that tout the«best» anything. That said, the $ 4 Chowder lived up to its billing. I look forward to trying other items.

Absolutely delicious. Love the cod and the halibut. I am not a chowder person. Not one bit, don’t bring it anywhere near me. However I have tried year of the fish’s chowder. I would order it again. Best chowder I have ever tasted. Great service too.

It is good. It is fresh. It hits the spot. I’m not a huge fan of the fries, but the fish and coleslaw are both awesome and he has homemade tartar and cocktail sauce. Yum. NOTOPENMONDAYS.

I ordered the trout salad, and it was not good. The smoked trout was OK, but the cheese was microscopic. Lackluster all in all. And, the guy wasn’t very nice. Don’t have a cart if you don’t like people.

Despite the cold, we went out to the food pod on 50th and Division based on the strong reviews here for Year of the Fish. I really like seafood, but my wife only rarely has a taste for seafood so I always jump at the opportunity whenever she is in the mood. This was a great choice! We had the snapper, the halibut and the cod for my son. Each one was excellent; well breaded, well cooked, and they include vinegar, tartar sauce and lemon in each of the to-go boxes. Portion sizes were good– my small snapper was just the right size, and my wife and son were full from their large sizes. We will be back!

YESYESANDYES! So… he totally gets 5 as when I got to the carts, he technically was about to shut it down for the day. I am not one of those people… I just think that is a douche move to order food when a place is closing. I wanted him to have our business though, he is a food cart. I asked and he said of course. Everything he made was just so fresh like as if he had just opened. I had the fish sandwich and my gf had the fish/chips. The fish was fresh and I really didnt expect the sandwich I got. I was highly impressed. I wanted to get something simple and I ended up getting the most amazing fish sandwich I have ever had. It looked like a huge burger, not some flimsy sandwich you sometimes get. The bread was soft and had a little sweetness to it, the veggies added were just enough to add that little extra, the fish though… it was a huge piece and overflowed the sandwich. The breading was just the right amount of crunch and flavorful. The fries as a side were good as well, just your average wedge fries, but still good and crunchy. The tarter sauce is tasty. not too greasy or overly seasoned. His simplicity is what makes his food great. If the fish is good, you dont have to do much with it. Dress it up, and add just as tasty sides and you have a place that will keep you coming back for more.

The clams are not made by them so I didn’t get those. I got the prawns that can beadle with gluten free batter. It was good. A lil fishy scented but good. Loved the cocktail sauce. So I give 3 stars in food but an extra on the couple that works there. They were cool.

Super heavenly snapper & cod combo! Perfectly flaky and moist. Great crisp breading. The clam strips will kick you in the taste buds too. Nicely cooked, fresh seafood goodness is HERE!

I cannot think of anything bad to say about this place. I got the fish & chips & chowder combo and it did not disappoint. Creamy chowder, crispy snapper, and delicious fries. Tarter sauce was solid as well. My husband regrets that he didn’t get what I got. We’ll be back for more!

I always passed this cart in search of other offerings, and I have been selling myself short. In retrospect, and not as a slight to any other cart, I’ve been walking by this cart unknowingly for offerings that truly pale in comparison to Year of the Fish. I had the red snapper fish and chips tonight, and it was PHENOMENAL. The fish was crispy and not greasy. It had great flavor, was moist, and the pieces of fish were substantial. I have no idea what he did to the potatoes – fried them in magic, maybe? They were the most fantastic chips I’ve ever had. They were crispy on the outside and not soggy at all; they weren’t mushy or crunchy, but completely perfect. I love good tartar sauce. I make my own because I don’t think relish in mayonnaise will suffice, like many places seem to believe. The tartar sauce at Year of the Fish is out of this world. It’s probably one of the best I’ve had. I couldn’t put my finger on what he must have put in it to make it taste so great, but probably definitely ask for extra if he offers it to you. This cart is well worth the money. I found the prices to be very reasonable for what I received, both in quantity and quality. Year of the Fish really set the bar very high for the best fish and chips for me tonight. Let him do that for you, too.

I never would have guessed I would fall in love with a little fried shrimp from a little tin food cart, but here I am salavating just thinking of all those oceanic goodies. My friend and I shared a fried shrimp platter. The fries were good but they were huge and they gave us about 5 more than even the two of us could polish off. The shrimp however was honestly the best fried shrimp I’ve ever had. It may be year of the fish but the shrimp is king here.

It’s lent season and so I’m in search of some good Fish & Chips in town! The Year of the Fish is a food cart located in the«A la food carts» pod off of SE50th& Division(it’s mostly located down SE50th after that intersection). [devour] COMBOCOD&SNAPPERFISH&CHIPS($ 7, ***3STARS***) I had really high hopes for the fish and chips that all the reviews were raving about them. I liked the fact that the fish was very moist and flaky. It was breaded quite well and fried to a golden brown complexion. The breading was something different than I’m typically used to, but glad it wasn’t greasy. My only gripe was that even though I ordered a small, it didn’t seem like it was 4 oz worth and I had WAY more chips(fried potatoes) than fish. Consider my fish order as an extra-extra small and there were too much fries. I kinda wish there were equal parts or just a bit more fish than 4 oz. The tartar sauce is definitely heavenly! I would give that 4 stars by itself! Service:(***4STARS***) Ed, the owner, is genuinely kind and considerate. He makes his food from scratch. I commend the guy for even offering gluten-free options for those with allergies! My food was out in a jiffy — no complaints there! I think this place is decent, but I wasn’t as impressed as the other Unilocalers. I wouldn’t mind trying the Year of the Fish again to check out the other seafood feasts that are available.
