we went here on vacation I had the burger which I usually don’t like avocado but it was delicious. My Brother also got this certain whiskey that tasted like cherries and vanilla it was just an amazing meal. The waiter we had was also so helpful and nice.

Amazing food/service! I had summer the beautiful waitress with a great attitude and smile that just made my day! Just one thing though, I saw that they were wearing very heavy clothing… In 103 digress WTF as they worked out side! please take care of your wait staff!!! They work hard to take care of us!!! so please take care of them! Give them the option to wear shorts and short sleeves PlEASE! Keep in mind no one said a thing to me. But if I was them I know I would be dying! Very disgusting on the owners part, shame on you!

Only a few blocks from Providence Park, so a good spot for some(slightly more expensive than the quality seems to justify, but hey, it’s downtown and right near the stadium) small plates and beer after an early game or before a late game.

While visiting Portland, we ducked into here to get out of a bit of rain. It being Happy Hour, our timing was perfect. We enjoyed the Happy Hour menu, with a terrific grass-fed beef burger and truffle fries. They were both fabulous! We also had a great pizza, and, of course, cold beers. The service was warm and friendly, too. We had such a good time, we came back the next afternoon for another Happy Hour, this time enjoying the Moroccan Chicken Salad, fried chicken sliders, another order of truffle fries, topped off, again, with cold beer. Fabulous again! We will return here the next time we are in Portland!

I thought this was a cool location because they took an old historic location in Portalnd and turned it into a restaurant. You’ll have to visit to learn about the historic reference! We got there around 11 and lunch didn’t start until 11:30 but our waiter let us order off the lunch menu which I thought was very nice of him. They do have beer and wine flights but I wasn’t in the mood for alcohol at that point of the day.(Gasp!) I ordered the grass fed burger. It was really tasty! I also liked that the bun was large and buttery. I would recommend this from the lunch menu. Overall very good. I liked that it was different than a normal café, more upscale and different offerings in my opinon.

Good for Sunday morning brunch and Bloody Mary, but mostly just Bloody Mary. I don’t know how good the spot across the street is but we didn’t wanna wait 1 – 2 hrs to sit down at a restaurant, especially after our hike without eating breakfast so we were starving. Come here for some bomb Bloody Mary, even the pickled veggies it had lying on top of the glass thru the toothpick were delicious. There’s plenty of outdoor seating around the edge of the restaurant for you to bask in the sun, but you might wanna wait for a seat with an umbrella cause the sun likes to try and burn your eyes out. I ordered the shrimp and grits which was a-ok, it was more grainy than I had expected but it wasn’t bad. It’s a nice spot to converse and people watch over brunch.

We came here for dinner. Steve, our waiter, was very kind and attentive. We ordered oyster shooters(3 big ones in a portion) and scallops cooked to perfection with shaved fennel, deep fried artichoke, and castelvetrano olives. Everything was delicious. Next time in Portland we will come back here.

Went on Valentine’s Day, there was a pet Maltese(service dogs perform actual services for their owners, this was not a ‘service dog’ and the difference should be known by establishment staff) at the table next to us, was on people’s laps and eating human food from the plates. My Valentine’s day was not romantic due to this. I emailed the business after about how it was a disturbing experience and no one ever bothered to respond.

I have to say, this was unlike any other McMenamins establishment. The food was actually good and the servers took my order within a reasonable amount of time. They were also very attentive and knowledgeable, which is something you don’t normally experience at a McMenamins. We originally went in just for drinks but ended up trying the chickpea fries(delicious!) and the charcuterie plate. My only complaint was one of the cheeses on the board was inedible. It was so funky smelling I couldn’t even bring myself to try it. My boyfriend tried it and had a hard time tasting anything else for several minutes. I just think it’s kind of odd to put that type of cheese on a board. Everything else was perfect though. The ruby beer is the best!

We got the fried pork belly and waffles with bourdon maple syrup. The waffles was the high light of this plate it was light and soft, when mixed with the pork and syrup this whole plate came together and blended so well. Never would have thought this was have been this delicious.

I met some friends here for lunch. The waiter was awesome! He was attentive, informed and just plain fun to talk to. He knew a bit of history about McMenamins properties. When I asked if there vegan options available, he said they were sure they could do something, but would double check with the chef. He came back and listed several things we could have made. We opted for a sweet potato hash, minus the pork and aioli. It was a delightful dish!

This isn’t your everyday café. I was surprised with the creative menu and variety of choices. The prices were pretty good for downtown Portland. The only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the alcohol selection. They try to sell a lot of the ‘house’ McMenamins branded beer and wine, instead of making room for other, tastier beverages. The food was good, and I left with a to-go box. I’ll definitely be eating there again.

Breakfast was great! Tried two items, Zeus’ breakfast sandwich and the strawberry French toast. The breakfast sandwich was served on an everything bagel, which seemed like it had a little something extra. It was wonderful! The French toast was tasty. Great portion sizes, and the fruit on the side was an added bonus. Super happy with this little dining spot.

I gave this place a try, as all the spots nearby were packed on Sunday. Seated right away, and that’s the only good news. About ten minutes before our server showed up, another ten to get coffee. Meanwhile we were privy to all the problems in the open kitchen. Head cook ranting and raving about EVERYTHING. If you’re going to have an open kitchen, train staff to have some tact and remember that everyone can hear you. Food took almost an hour to arrive after ordering. Server was apologetic, but when food showed my eggs were super undercooked. I wasn’t about to send it back for fear of starving. How can a company who has an empire in the PNW offer such service and food quality?

We are from LA, traveling with a 15 month old baby so most places are a little hard to consider for a nice dinner out without the hassle. We initially wanted to go to Tasty & Alder but it was raining, the wait was 1 hour long, and it was loud and a total bar scene spilling into the dining area. We walked around a bit in that area and I Unilocaled Zeus Café. Looked kid friendly by the reviews and it was a McMenamin’s, which we tried before and knew what to expect so off we went. We ended up ordering a pizza(chorizo and arugula), the chickpea fries(what the what!), the chicken salad(gotta stay healthy), and a beer flight. Baby ate some of the chicken salad and they gave him some crayons and a coloring placemat to play with. If my baby didn’t have allergies we would have ordered off their kids’ menu but alas he just ate his puffs and chicken breasts. Everything tasted great, I am in love with chickpea fries now, and the beer flight made sitting next to two old farty men not quite as bad.

Amazing. Came here twice during my stay in Portland. Came once for lunch and had the falafel burger which was super good. The fries were amazing though. Came again the next night after a night of drinking and splurged on appetizers. Good price. Great food. Great service. Super cute restaurant and loved the outdoor European style seating. Would love to come back!

Zues Café was the only place opened for brunch on Christmas day!(That I could find) We thankfully made a reservation and got seated about fifteen minutes after arriving. Our booth was right next to a heater, which supposedly we could operate on our own if we got cold. I found it weird that no other booth had that. I got the«Housemade Porkstrami Hash» — it came with pork, apples, beets, potatoes, and pickled cabbage. I got a side of bread to go with that. The hash was great flavor wise and the pork was well cooked, and the other components were well seasoned. I could of done without the bread and the jam was slightly too sweet for my liking. Overall, the ambiance was great with a open kitchen concept, great service, and good food!

Very nice and warm restaurant — met for breakfast. Service was friendly but it was busy on Christmas. Korean Chicken & Waffles were just OK, pretty dry on both of them. Physically long restaurant with what looks like a nice bar. I’ll need to try again if I’m in town. Maybe I got the wrong breakfast?

If you’re craving a consistently yummy breakfast or brunch and a deliciously creamy polenta– this is your spot! Today, I had a beat, apple, potato, pickled cabbage, and pork hash topped with a hollandaise. My boyfriend had fried chicken and waffles with a kimch The Bloody Mary’s come in several flavored(regular, horseradish, and bacon) and always with several pickled treats! I’m a Bloody-Mary-lover and this one satiates my desires!

We live near this restaurant so we come here quite often for breakfast as well as dinner. It’s a perfect place to come during the summer time as well because they do have tables outside all year round. Zeus Café uses local and seasonal ingredients whenever possible so their food is very good due to their high standards in selecting the freshest ingredients. I also believe they truly work hard at coming up with new and exciting dishes on the menu so we are always open to try their new dishes. I do have some regular favorites that I order all the time when I’m there; for breakfast I like their farmer’s market breakfast which includes: 2 eggs, toast, your choice of ham, sausage or bacon(bacon for me) with home fries or polenta(polenta for me). They have really good polenta because it’s very creamy and cheesy good. I always order this for breakfast and a pot of jasmine tea to go with it. For dinner; I either start with their Totten Inlet Clams or their Moroccan Chicken Salad and then main course would be a fish dish such as Seared Oregon Albacore. I love their fish because they’re always perfectly cooked; not too overdone so you can really taste the freshness of the fish. I recently found out that Zeus Café get their fishes from a local Fish company Flying Fish which is our favorite local seafood company. Anyway; I could go on and on but I suggest you come to Zeus Café and find out for yourself. Service is also great and the staffs are extremely nice and pleasant. The atmosphere is relaxing not at all stuffy, oh and every once in a while you will see a famous celebrity there eating dinner at the bar; pretty cool and casual. Came back tonight on 11÷8÷15 for dinner and I tried a new item on their menu; seared duck breast with black forbidden rice, confit duck, shiitake mushrooms and garnished with pickled bean sprout. If you like duck; you will sure love this dish. The duck was prepared perfectly; not too rare and not too done and very tender. I especially loved the black forbidden rice cooked with mushrooms so it was very flavorful. The pickled bean sprout has a hint of sesame oil in it and was crunchy and a little tart which added a perfect crunch texture to this dish. I highly recommend this new dish; try it I bet you will like it just as much as I did.

Food was fine, nothing special. The problem I had was that we were staying at the hotel and there was free coffee at the bar that our waitress proceeded to grab from the bar to serve us coffee and then charged us about $ 3 for. If you are going to offer free coffee don’t serve the paying customers from the same exact pot you just brought out to the self-serve area. We were staying at the hotel and went down for breakfast around 7:30am. After we placed our order it took approximately 25 mins to receive the order, oatmeal and eggs benedict. There were two other parties seated at the time but only our order was placed during that time.

I am typically not a McMennamins fan. In fact, once I realized this place was owned by McMennamins, I was disappointed. However, I was really impressed overall. Usually I will order something kind of unusual and exotic but I wanted to keep to something simple. I got a Moroccan chicken salad that had arugula, grapes, cucumber, walnuts, feta and a lemon dressing. Everything about this was good — all of the fruits and veggies were fresh, the chicken itself was really high quality(none of the fatty, gross parts) and the flavors really complemented each other. The salad was about $ 13 not including tip and in my opinion, worth every penny. If you usually shy away from McMennemans like I do, don’t be scared and come here. :)

Nothing is left to chance at this charming restaurant with pleasing interior décor and and outdoor seating that exudes the lost European way of life(eat, drink and be merry). Thou shall never doubt a good pint at a McMenamins location but it’s the food(first look. wood fired pizza with briskets and feta, wowzer!) that shines. To top off it off, the girls ordered the berry cobbler with vanilla icecream. Are u kidding me? Wow, cobbler was delicious and worth the wait.

Went to Zeus for dinner a few nights ago and was underwhelmed by the experience. We were seated promptly, and our server was attentive… But I think a bit absent minded. We ordered an appetizer and he messed up and told the kitchen to make the seared ahi tuna. We were still charged $ 23 for the item(not cool, man). The entrees weren’t that great either. I ordered the rabbit, which turned out to be pretty dry. The sauce helped redeem it a bit. My date ordered some sort of pasta dish that was so bland I can’t even remember what it was… Totally flavorless. I won’t be recommending this place for dinner any time soon. Not worth the $ 100 check.

A visit to Portland cannot be complete without visiting the downtown Pearl district. So on a cool summer evening I Dick Darlington along with Lady Darlington decided to walk the streets of this vibrant neighborhood. There were busy sidewalk cafes, restaurants, and bars along with street musicians which filled this summer evening with an air of excitement yet relaxed sophistication. This is when we spotted the Zeus Café which reminded me of one of those sidewalk cafes in Paris. There were outdoor sitting but we decided to sit inside which has a huge windows that were completely open. Therefore, we had the best of both worlds. The menu is not extensive but you can tell that it was done with care and reflected the delights of the season. The waiting staffs were professional and accommodating. Food arrived perfectly executed and tasted heavenly. I Dick Darlington has traveled the world and dinned at many Michelin star restaurants and I will tell you my dear chaps that just because the restaurant has Michelin stars does not guarantee satisfaction. In fact I have disappointed many times. The Zeus Café however did not disappoint! Yours truly, Richard Edward Rupert Darlington

The food is very aesthetically pleasing, and so is the restaurant/pub. McMenamins always presents itself well. The food smelt incredible when we walked into the building, but it tasted even better! The only downside to our visit was the slow service and rude attitude we got from our waitress.

Starting off, I need to be really honest… I came in with low(really low) expectations. We’ve eaten at several of the McMenamin’s properties and are typically disappointed with the quality of the food. Zeus, not the case. We had enjoyed the corned beef hash for breakfast here on a previous visit so when we found ourselves back in the area, we thought we’d try the dinner menu. We started off with the Totten Inlet manila clams with a white wine, shallot butter sauce, served with two thick slices of grilled bread. Impressed, we moved on to a plate of truffle fries with a black garlic aioli and sea salt… mmmmmmm…really good! Followed that up with their wood fired capicola pizza and a Painted Hills hanger steak with a green garlic chimmichurri sauce and a potato cake… Potato cake is such a humble and unassuming description for what we actually received. The cake is cooked in duck fat… why is there no hint of that on the menu??? Scrumptious. Seriously. Not the healthiest of nights, but it was worth it. With round bellies, we wished we had the forethought to book a room upstairs for a much needed nap!

This place was awesome. Took a friend who didn’t know what McMenamins was and had fun showing him around. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some of their delicious cocktails. This is a great spot for a hot day since its underground and cool. Attached, is Al’s den where they play music and have comedy shows throughout the week. Great for tourists and cocktail lovers. Downstairs from the Crystal Hotel, the Zeus Café has a very comfortable feel. It also includes a curb side table services. Zeus also offers handcrafted beers on draft for afternoon and evening. At nine in the morning the city streets around the hotel are quiet and relaxing. Much different than Seattle or New York. Downtown Portland has a very good selection of restaurants to choose from and the Zeus Café is one of the better restaurants to dine, relax and enjoy the city views.

Was recommended by a friend and so impressed! Their brunch is on point, affordable, large portions, & some interesting twists on the classics. An upscale feel for an affordable price. Outdoor seating can be a bit noisy with traffic. My server was seriously extraordinary, shanti I believe, & handled a ton of tables while still being personable, & very professional. Will be making this a regular spot & the first mcmenamins I’ve been to that’s knocked it out of the park service and food wise!
