This restaurant is permanently closed. The restaurant is known as both the canyon club and alpine grill. I just want to inform people so they can make an easier dining choice. Options in Portola include: Subway, Pizza factory, Nicole’s, lena’s cantina, Rico’s Mexican Food, Sharon’s café and The Family Corner. Hope this helps:)

This place is now called Canyon Club Bar and Grill. I haven’t had a bad meal their, yet! Try their chicken fried steak, or juevos rancheros.

This place was a nice surprise. We were looking for an eatery in Portola on a Sunday. Some were closed. When we lived locally this location was a bar we never frequented. We had a great lunch. The food was good Two of us split a sandwich and they brought it out on two plates with the included side and the added side.(California BLT sandwich and the Pulled Pork Sandwich). The side salads were fresh and had a variety of vegetables. The water was delicious and the glasses were sparkling. The price was reasonable. Carmen, our smiling server, was wonderful. It’s a café folks and they get a five because they offered everything I expected from a café and a little bit more. We’ll be back.

I love breakfast and was happy to see a new place. It started off with small portion sizes and a little expensive, but now it is just right. The omlettes are delicious, and they have something for every taste. The building is large, but they are awaiting approval for their liquor license and I’m sure it will be filled quickly.

I have tried a few different things here to try and support local business, plus there aren’t many options in Portola. Everything is either over the top spicy or completely bland; for instance, the yellow curry was merely dry chicken in a flavorless sauce that couldn’t be remedied with salt or pepper. 3 bad meals is enough to call it quits.

Definitely a new place which appears to be trying very hard to please its customers. Came here on the recommendation of the only two other Unilocal reviews which were both 5 stars. And since I don’t eat anywhere less than a 3 star I thought I’d give it a try. Anyhow we were out for a drive in this very rural part of California and it is difficult to find reliable places to eat. This place has a very adventurous menu, but I’m a sucker for French Dips, so that is what I had. The menu said the sandwich would come on a French Roll, but it came on a Chibatta(sp?) roll instead. This was fine, but when you have your mind around something you should be made aware of it ahead of time. I personally like them on crusty French Bread that doesn’t get all slimy when dipped into the Au Jus. That aside, the meat was tasty and covered with grilled onions and swiss cheese. As a side I had the salad instead of the fries and it was made with mixed greens and the dressing I was a tasty Italian/vinaigretty concoction that was very tasty. My dining partner had fries with his sandwich and they were a little over cooked. All in all the place was pretty good for where it is. The space is too cavernous for what the place is trying to achieve, but you have what you have to work with. I’m going to be spending a lot of time in the area this summer and will give an updated review on my next visit.

With a tight budget, we don’t get out too often, but when we do, it’s a treat to come to Alpine Grill. This time it was breakfast. The décor is much more complete than our previous visit and the walls are covered with wonderful paintings and prints. The bar is coming along nicely and things are settling in. We both ordered omelets; his was the Beckwourth, a lively concoction of sausage and gravy. Mine was the Bodega Bay, stuffed with tender shrimp and Jack cheese and topped with fresh avocado. It took a while to get our food, but when it arrived, we understood why. The sausage was perfect, the shrimp sublime. He was surprised to find the sausage in sliced links, and would have preferred a bit more gravy, but he declared it delicious. I expected bay shrimp, but was delighted to find them big, fat, and scampi-sized. The eggs were ideal. Each ingredient was carefully prepared. Served with home fries and toast, the entire meal was a delight. Topping it off were big, hot mugs of beautifully brewed coffee. Rich, smooth, and plenty. Again, the service was efficient and friendly. Truly, I feel blessed to have such a great eatery in my home town. Next time you’re in Portola, be sure to eat at the Alpine Grill.

This is a great addition to the small town of Portola, CA! The burgers are great, salads are very fresh and the fries are to die for! Loved every single part of my meal, and for a reasonable price, it’s almost to good to be true!
