My friend and I looked forward to our visit to NJM. She’d already been there a few times before and told me about the great selection of glassblown work by local and national artists. «The jewelry,» she said, «is more of an afterthought and not very good quality.» I agreed with her entirely: I enjoyed browsing the glassblown collection very much but I thought that the jewelry selection was poor. When we engaged the man in charge on this topic, he was very abrasive in his replies and just unpleasant to speak with altogether. I would love to support the artists represented in this store but the attitude shown was a major turn-off. We shared our experience with the clerks in a few of the other stores downtown and they told us that we’re not the first ones to express our dissatisfaction with customer service at NJM.

This is the art glass store that lots of people meet in front of. It’s big, fancy, expensive, and full of amazing things. I don’t think I’d take little kids inside unless they’re really well behaved or you’ve got an industrial strength American Express platinum card, because everything is breakable and nothing’s cheap. I’d give this place 5 stars if I could afford to take something home from this store. Since I can’t, they only get 4 stars. I mean, it can’t be my fault that I’m not rich, right? Comparisons to Salamandra are inevitable since they’re the two shops in town dedicated to art glass. NJM has a wider selection from artists all over the country. Salamandra makes their own stuff locally, but they only make a few things. The stores are close to each other so check them both out.
