A great restaurant, especially given its location in a region that does not offer a lot of diverse or international food. Wife and I both had the Hibachi chicken, kids had the free(!) kids meal. Meal consisted of clear soup(very savory), green salad, entrée and orange wedges. The portions were HUGE. Neither my wife nor I could eat it all and the kids meal easily fed my 7 year old and 5 year old. Only negative was the glazed carrots: they were good but not the small, hard, sweetly glazed carrots we were used to. Prices good too: all four ate for $ 30. Definitely going back.

Best sushi place in Southern Ohio, hands down. My family and I love going to Yamato when I’m in town. The service is always exceptional there, and the sushi has only gotten better since they first opened.

This is really the best place for sushi in portsmouth. It always tastes really yummy and fresh! I love their spicy tuna and sweet potato rolls. They are to die for, and are also good compliments together. This place also has some great non sushi dishes as well. Im very fond of the black pepper chicken & chicken katsu. Also, if you’re looking for a tasty appetizer, the lobster rangoon is my go to choice!

Ordered the California roll, the New York strip steak & filet mignon both with shrimp & came with clear soup. The sushi was very good & their spicy mayo was very tasty. The steaks on the other hand were very bland but the shrimp & soup was delicious. I’ll defiantly be returning for the sushi and to try their other dishes.

Best sushi Ive had while being within Ohio. I am unfortunately too far away from Columbus and Cincinnati. I am currently in a little town in Ohio and needed to be in Portsmouth for a few days so I was happy to know that there was some great reviews on Yamato. When I first walked in I was pleasantly greeted and seated promptly. Its hard to pick a roll right off the bat when they all looked great. I just ordered a common roll just to see how it was prepared and how it tasted. I ordered the Dragon roll… I know I should have got something more signature Yamato but it did not disappoint. Im a sucker for crab rangoon so I ordered that along with a salad. Everything was fine the only thing I have to complain about is this… if your going to offer a «green» salad make it so. When I see green salad I expect anything but iceberg which is so common in Ohio. Green should mean Spring greens not iceberg. Yamato does however make their own dressing which was good. All in all if I was still in Portsmouth this would be a weekly lunch destination.

Having recently moved back to Portsmouth after living in Miami for 8 years I was overjoyed to find a GOOD sushi restaurant in P-town. The portions are good, and of course compared to Miami the prices are GREAT. I have also tried the Hibachi dinners, the filet and shrimp are always prepared perfectly. I dine in or carry out at least 2x a month. The staff is excellent, the presentation is over the top, very impressive displays of food and cut fruit as decoration, your plate is like art and taste as even better than it looks. When we order large take out orders they usually include some free crab rangoon, very nice, other restaurants in Portsmouth should take some customer service lessons from Yamato’s! My favorite rolls are Spicy Salmon and Eel Avocado.

Best sushi in Portsmouth. It’s only gotten better since it first opened. The sushi portions are smaller than other sushi bars but it is good.
