Food was not what I would call a taste of Mexico. The only person at the place was the cook. We asked if they were open, his answer was the door is open. When I asked about the burrito his answer was«how would you know if you never had it?» Well that is why I was asking. Sad to see as I would think they will welcome new business

Note to self: don’t try to eat the big burrito while driving on winding Iowa roads. Sit down and enjoy it!

Authentic Mexican food is hard to come by in northeast Iowa! The food is excellent and the staff is friendly. I dine at this restaurant weekly. Their homemade salsa is super tasty. Depending on the batch, it can get quite hot! Our family’s favorites: Chicken or Steak Fajitas, Una Enchilada Azteca Dinner, Taco Salad, and Quesadillas Aztecas. Ambiance could use some improvement to say the least, but I love the food so much, I’m willing to ignore it!

I hope to God this place is still open — when ICE busted the Postville packing plant and started deporting people, this place might’ve been an unintended causality. I’m not sure of that, but when I came through Postville regularly a while back, this was the best place in town to eat. The food strikes you as more authentic than the Tex-Mex food you get in most other Mexican restaurants, and it’s certainly delicious. You can also get imported sodas from Mexico with cane sugar in them, which is a nice touch. Never had to wait, although the service sometimes lagged a little bit and I ended up staying longer than I’d hoped — that won’t be a problem if you’re not in a hurry, but it’s something to be mindful of.

If you’re driving through northeast Iowa and get a hankering for some authentic Mexican fare, point your car to Postville! Sabor Latino is a grocery store and restaurant on Highway 52. I enjoyed a margarita with chicken enchiladas, although it’s the only place I know where you can still get Coke and 7-Up in 20 ounce glass bottles! Pretty cool. And as an added bonus, our waitress threw in a big bowl of fried ice cream for my birthday — a nice touch. Thumbs up!
