Going down hill. The first few times we went here, I ordered the Fradiablo Shrimp and loved it. Now, the shrimp is much smaller and over cooked. Also, the sauce was not nearly as good as it used to be. I really wanted this place to be good. It is BYOB, reasonably priced and close. Damn ! ! !

Tex-Mex restaurant that is BYOB all week long, has complementary Sangria every Saturday, salsa that is damn close to my mother’s, and the owner is from California… heck yea! Is it my native Arizona or New Mexico food… no, but I can get my fix here. P. S. The waitress(very nice) kept trying to fill my Sangria glass… even after 2 were already down. I had to stop her. I’ll be here next Saturday.

It was a little confusing walking into this place since it came up on Unilocal initially as Garfield Diner but we were pleasantly surprised to find that it was a Tex-Mex place. While the menu is pretty small for a place with the word«diner» in its name, we(myself, wife, and 2 kids) were able to find something to eat. The steak burrito was a little light on steak but overall pretty good while the rice and beans were delicious. My wife wasn’t totally satisfied with the chicken fajita burrito(again, a little light on the meat) but the kids seemed to like their tacos. Just a heads up, ordering hard shell tacos from the kids’ menu will get you 1 taco that’s been fried to make it crispy. Just a warning for kids expecting hard taco shells like those at Taco Bell. They liked them and finished them just fine. The salsa & chips were excellent. Nice thick crunchy chips and delicious salsa. The staff was friendly and helpful. The diner itself was pretty small and divey and clean and well-maintained. It was a nice, quick place to eat within walking distance of our tour at the Yuengling Brewery.

Healthy portions — I had the chicken fajita burrito, The burrito was large and full of fresh vegetables that were sautéed well, The chicken was a little overcooked and the salsa was a canned generic variety not a fresh salsa made on site. The waitress was not well versed in the menu, I asked for a recommendation between a couple of items and all she had to offer was«I haven’t tried those.» When I asked what the difference between the chicken burrito with the chicken fajita burrito she said«I’m not sure,» I can hope is that the sign on the front door that says waiter«help wanted immediately» is filled quickly.

nice little surprise in Pottsville. very good tacos and Mexican music and chatter coming out of the kitchen made it all that much cooler! felt like the diner scene in pulp fiction.

Absolutely horrid French Fries. After eating two crispy but oil soaked fries my stomach began to revolt. The brain joined the revolution and I had to stop. As for the simple breakfast sandwich… Amy’s Favorite(or something to that name but not described in the menu where I had to ask the totally inept counter girl, who had to go in the kitchen to ask), was pretty gross too. It was actually a BEC sandwich. Ok, how can you mess that up right? Well, it took over 15 minutes to make and the place had only 2 customers in there. The cheese was the main course, and spicy which I should have been told, the bacon not cooked enough and the egg flavorless. Again, I have to stress the young lady behind the counter was completely useless and way over her head(says a lot since taking and tallying an order is pretty simple stuff). The only saving grace to this place is the JFK photos and old fashioned SS diner this crappy restaurant resides in.

Had breakfast there on Sunday. Server was very friendly, food was good. Guacamole was excellent! Had eggs and bacon, also had a tex mex breakfast special. Everything was good, nice to see they kept the old diner intact.

This review is for breakfast. Stopped in Easter Morning to try the breakfast, something lacking in Pottsville. The menu has 2 sides, one with several Mexican breakfast items, and the other side is your standard breakfast items… Pancakes, Eggs, Bacon, etc. The 2nd side with the standard items everything was under 5 $, the Mexican breakfasts were 2 – 3 bucks more. I really wanted pancakes and eggs so got 2 breakfasts, which you can do at these prices! Pancakes with Strawberries, and Eggs over easy with bacon. The over easy eggs were sunny side up… they did not appear to be turned at all, you can see this in several of the photos here… Not sure if that is how they do «over easy» in Pottsville or Mexico, but it was not what I was expecting. They were fine, but I do prefer a flip letting the egg cook a bit more thru… the bacon and home fries were very good, the potatoes particularly tender on the inside and crisp on the out. Alls good with the eggs here, I’ll stop in for more in the future! The pancakes looked absolutely fantastic! Dollops of whipped cream, strawberry sauce and fresh strawberries… I was very excited to see them hit the table! Sadly, they were a tremendous letdown… they were actually crisp to the point that I’d call them crunchy… the only part I really enjoyed was what was sitting under the strawberry syrup and whipped cream, as they absorbed some of the moisture and lost some of their toasty texture… The rest of it was chewing practice. I *think* they precook the pancakes and put them in a buffet type warmer over bunsen burners(thus crisping them). The warmers were out on the counter… I also *think* I had Saturday’s leftover pancakes Sunday morning. I hope so anyway… if these were fresh pancakes they have a big problem! If you are precooking, consider partially cooking them and putting them back in the fridge, then finishing them on the grill, it would probably make a better pancake. As others have noted the ambience is a bit odd… It’s a Diner, It’s Mexican, It’s a Mexican Diner… It’s an old building with a lot of history, like much of Pottsville it’s still holding onto glory days with historic photos of JFK and the Garfield Diner right behind the counter.

Stopped in on a Friday at Lunchtime. Started with the Chips and Salsa. Next we had the Guacamole and Chips(Loved). We both had Fish Taco’s(Very Good) my husband also had a side of Rice and Beans also(Very Good). Service was friendly. She was the only server on at the time, so by the time we were ready to leave she was pretty busy, so we had to wait for our check. We would defiantly go back!

The bad news first — ambience is totally lacking. However the food is terrific. This is not Mexican fast food, definately authentic. My husband and I have eaten here several times since they opened and the consistency of the food has remained the same. Service is friendly though not the fastest, but most things are made to order so patience is rewarded.
