A1 North Taxi

Worst taxi service I’ve ever used. I called around noon to have a taxi pick me up at 5:10 to make a train at 5:40. Taxi finally came at 5:30. I believe they sent it late on purpose to get me and another student on campus (who was making a later train) in one car. I got put on hold multiple times when trying to figure out where my taxi was. Nothing was done when I pointed out the taxi came 20 minutes late.

I originally called what I thought was Beekman taxi, but is now known as A1 taxi out of Poughkeepsie.
Very expensive… An eight mile ride cost me $ 50. It’s been a long time since I took a cab, but I thought that was really steep and suspected that the driver was trying to hose me. I made the driver radio the dispatcher for confirmation, and sure enough, it was fifty bucks. OUTRAGEOUS!!!
The vehicle was a dirty, beat-​up 14 year old Chevy minivan, and the driver smoked and was more than a little bit bizarre… not cool at all, but I could have overlooked those details if not for the ridiculous fare.

I am writing this review on behalf on my fiancé who, in his effort to get to work while our car was in the shop, unsuspectedly called the worst cab company possible for a ride. Not only did the cab show up late, even though he expressed to the operator that he needed to get to work, and the phone call was placed with ample time to transport him from Poughkeepsie to New Paltz; but apparently the driver was late because he had not only picked up another passenger on the way but had also decided to stop at Taco Bell for lunch. The condition of the cab was barely suitable for a trip to the dump, let alone to transport customers, with its ominous odors wafting over the fast food. And if this wasn’t enough, the cab driver insisting on carrying on at top volume with the initial passenger the entire way. To top it all off, the fare was $ 30 + an undeserved tip with no negotiation of a reduced fare for the shared ride and causing my fiancé to be 20 minutes later for work. We have ridden cabs all over NYC and San Francisco and this is some of the worst service we have seen. Do yourself a favor and pick from one of the other cab companies in Poughkeepsie. These people do not deserve your business.
