Enterprise Rent-A-Car

Superb customer service, always polite, efficient and friendly. The pickup service at the train station is a major bonus, and they accommodate our car requests every time, often upgrading us.

Each time I’ve gone it’s a hassle. Usually a wait, far far too many questions (‘give me a secondary phone number’, ‘where do you work’) they don’t accept international driver’s licenses without a passport. Pity those paying with a debit card – utility bills, the works. Who travels with these things? Unfortunately there’s little alternative in Poughkeepsie. Maybe better to train elsewhere to start your Hudson Valley adventure.

Dan, James, Pete, Jay, Chauncey and the rest of the staff at this regional hub of rental car activity have been accommodating, polite, professional at each rental period we’ve had with the company. Relocating to a new town from the city where one need not have a car has proved challenging, but we would not have done it without their pick-​ups, drop-​offs and area-​specific advice. Thanks guys!

I have rented from this location at least 10 times over the past year. It’s our go-​to when coming from the city to commute further north. The employees are great about picking us up at the Metro-​North station, though it can be difficult to catch a cab back to the station from Enterprise.
Jay (Manager) is always there and happy to go above and beyond. The other staff (having dealt with most of them) are always great, and we are always in-​and-​out in quick fashion. Best Enterprise location I’ve ever been to.

I have been renting from Enterprise for about 3 years now on a fairly regular basis. I utilize the office on Dutchess Turnpike in Poughkeepsie, NY. I have never had an issue. The ladies and gentlemen that work there are friendly, courteous, and professional. They are as accommodating as they can be. There is ample parking at this location which is important as I have to leave my car these when I rent.

Employees at Dutchess Turnpike could not be more professional, helpful, and courteous. Renting from Enterprise at this location is a wonderful experience.

The people at this location get an A+ — super friendly, super efficient. We regularly fly into NYC and take the train up to Poughkeepsie where the Enterprise folks pick us up. One time, we arrived an hour earlier than we had anticipated and even though the SUV they had reserved for us wasn’t due in from Albany for another ½−1 hour, they gave us a different (better) SUV and we were on our way. Will definitely keep renting from this location.

These guys are awesome ! They are very devoted and focused on there job and care about the business. They very polite and courteous to me and all customer that were there when I was. Keep up the good work. If I need the service again I’m definitely going back!

Very friendly driver picked us up at a garage due to our car breaking down. Rainy, and upsetting day and he made it much better. Was very good about sitting in the car and explaining all the bells and whistles! They had a large inventory to select from.

Enterprise is our go to car rental company. They are reliable and their customer service is usually very good.
We rented from the Poughkeepsie agency over Xmas. When we returned the car, they made every effort to get us to the train station. With not much notice or time to spare they got us there in time to make the train.
Pete was terrific and so was our driver. When you have a choice, go Enterprise!

I have rented with these guys four or five times in the last 18 months. I would highly recommend. Easy to deal with and usually quick transactions.

The two guys running this office last Sunday, Oct 18^th begrudgingly offered excellent customer service!!! We were late getting to poughkeepsie on the train and after the cab dropped us off at 2… An hour after they closed… We were initially turned away. We were told that they were there later than they ought to be, We could go to Stewart airport and that they would like to go home and enjoy their Sunday. I understood all of it… But we were stranded. As we stood in front of the office figuring out what to do, we were told to hang on and they would take care of us. In 15 minutes we were on our way. Thanks for bending the rules and providing great customer service!!!
The Sunday hours of 9 to 1 seem nuts to me… As well as a lack of location by the train station.

Excellent service from start to end! A great place to rent a car outside of NYC as they pick you up and drop you at the train station. The staff was friendly and attentive and the car was clean & comfortable. I wish they stayed open later on Sunday’s but that is only because I was not ready to head home. Would not hesitate to recommend this location.

I always rent from the Poughkeepsie store, they have nice cars and take care of everything. One time I had a nail in tire and they took care of me, one time I had a billing issue and they took care of me. They stand behind their service.

They met us at the train station right after we called and we were on the road quickly with the car we wanted. Same when we returned. Fast and efficient and drove us to the train station.

I despise the vast majority of rental companies.
Generally speaking, they are massive conglomerates only concerned with the bottom line. At nearly every branch, the soul-​crushing nature of horrible corporate policies and what I’m sure are below-​market wages is visible in the eyes of each and every employee. I would feel much worse for these unfortunate drones if they weren’t a somewhat willing part of what I’m assuming is a dastardly conspiracy to keep me from being satisfied with my rental car experience.
But before I get dramatic about all this, I’d like to give a shout out to the Poughkeepsie Enterprise location. Because they are different.
Barry and Ryan seem like really good dudes, and they made what is often an excruciating experience quite painless. They actually seem more concerned with customer service than any rental car company I’ve ever encountered, and they are even worried about my safety (not just my rental fee). They checked the tire pressure on our car and when it wasn’t up to snuff on one side, we got a free upgrade. Because you can’t be driving around with your tires too low.
Also, I don’t know if you’ve heard this about Enterprise, but they’ll pick you up. They were a little late grabbing us from the train station, but it was snowing and the roads were pretty bad, so I can’t really blame them there.

Overall the experience was fine, but two things detracted:
1) The car we wanted had just come off a rental, and looked perfectly clean. We said «no need to clean it», the guy said «we have to, it’s our policy, won’t take long». When it came back it had a chemical smell, and the guy said «I sprayed some stuff to make it smell good».
That smell haunted us for two days.
2) Talking to the guy it’s clear this location does not enforce the «no smoking policy». If you’re a smoker, this is your Enterprise location. If you don’t like the smell, look elsewhere (Zipcars are usually good).
This location was very good at explaining their special «damage calculator ruler», which defines what is and is not «damage» for purpose of return. In short, there’s a length limit, and bumper scratches are always excluded.
