Worst indian food ever, i will never ever come back here again and will not recommend anyone to go there. Curry is made by all frozen carrot and peas. Potato is uncooked, goat curry taste like, it is from many day kept in refrigerator and made it warm. Omg chicken tikka masala the worst tikka masala i ever had. Somosa’s filling is from so many days that the filling was smelling .so this place deserve one star.

Will start by saying that the food is good. not stellar, but quite tasty. However, part of the dining experience is service as well. Basically the owner of the restaurant messed up and brought us extra food. We said, «hey we didn’t order this». They say«its okay, have it». This is a standard procedure if a restaurant messes up, no? but then, plot twist: at the end he tries to charge us for the mistake. We say, we didn’t order it and you said to have it. I fight with the guy quite a bit and at the end, he lets us not pay for the extra food but he tells me I’m taking advantage of him. This was so insulting. My intention was never to swindle free food from him, in fact, it almost seems like he was trying to swindle more money from me… TL;DR — average food + bad service

Been here before. Mom and pop restaurant. Delicious food, great service, great prices and clean. Really recommend.

I’ve been here a few times to dine in. It’s not the best Indian food I’ve ever had, but it certainly does the job. It’s a cozy little hole in the wall, but I love going there when I need my Indian fix. The service is always fast and superb, and the employees/owners are so friendly. My favorites are the lamb biryani and the chana gobi malai. Each entrée comes with rice, and they have amazing naan and roti. They give you a complimentary crispy bread or fried cracker thing with two sauces that taste amazing. One is spicy, and the other is sweet; they compliment each other well. The prices at Kismat are extremely reasonable, and there’s usually always parking spots right in front of the restaurant. I took off a star because the last time I went I think I was incorrectly charged, but that would never be a deal breaker for me returning.

I haven’t been to Kismat in while, but I agree with most other reviews about this place. It’s a teeny, tiny hole in the wall, surrounded by a bunch of other restaurants by Vassar College. If you’re looking for a meal surrounded by an especially aesthetically pleasing dining area, don’t get riled up if you end up in Kismat instead. It’s not bad by any means, it’s just small and simple. The last time I was at Kismat, I had stopped by for lunch and ordered vegetable samosas for an appetizer and Tandoori Chicken. The samosas were fine, I wouldn’t say anything exceptional, but they did just fine for a quick, cheap lunch. I don’t eat a lot of Indian food and I stepped out of my normal ordering by getting the Tandoori Chicken, so I really don’t have much to compare it to. That being said, I thought it was pretty good. They gave me a surprisingly large portion for a lunch serving(which, obviously, was fine by me) and I really enjoyed my meal. All that said, I’m really disappointed to see so many reviews saying that people were served rotten food. I could usually brush off one case, but seeing it multiple times throughout their reviews has me a little skeeved out.

Honestly can’t recommend it. Decided to try it for lunch last week. Should have read more of the reviews, especially some recent ones on Trip Advisor which warn of possible health risks. Found the food to be «ok-ish» but incredibly small portions for the lunch specials and the naan(for which there was an unexpected extra charge) was very unappetising. Would need to be desperate before paying their top $ prices for a la carte.

My family and I came here needing to leave in about 25 minutes. We ordered immediately, and our food was ready in about 8 minutes. While not terribly spicy, it was still some of the Indian food I have ever had. Service was good, they were friendly, and I enjoyed my experience. We barely made it out to meet our timeline.

The lamb vindaloo was over creamy and sour. This is the dish I always order at every Indian restaurant. Usually I get a light tomato spicy sauce on potato and lamb. This sauce seemed like they added yogurt to a normally non yogurt sauce. I also got keema naan and it was under cooked and actually had raw dough along most of the edges. The center was cooked and the parts I pulled off to eat were lacking all spicing. It was bland, tasteless, and doughy. The rice seemed like minute rice, not the basmati I have gotten at other restaurants. For this inedible meal I paid $ 19. On a Friday night in a town surrounded by colleges and major companies I expect better quality and standards.

This is a great little hole-in-the-wall Indian place. The chicken tikka masala was very flavourful and the garlic naan was excellent. Not a fan of the fried onion appetiser fritters, but the rest was yummy. The only hitch was that we ordered online for delivery, and they called us a few minutes later and asked us to come pick up the food since they didn’t have a driver. I wouldn’t even mention it if we weren’t in Poughkeepsie on vacation, and were specifically looking for a delivery place so we wouldn’t have to find our way around in the dark. Still, not a bad deal.

The food was good, but I saw a cockroach on the wall close to our table and that kind of ruined my appetite. After I finished my meal and was waiting for the check, the cockroaches seemed to say«alright, he’s done, we can all come out now.» In all, I saw at least 4 distinct cockroaches, but probably closer to 6(I can’t be sure which I was seeing more than once). Incidentally, I had the Rogan Josh and it was a little over-spiced, which meant I couldn’t really taste the lamb. On the plus side, I also couldn’t taste the roach droppings that were certainly also in my meal.

I should have checked the reviews prior to eating here with my fiancé for lunch. We are new to town, had some time to kill, and were by Vassar so we decided to try Kismat. Well, the food was fine(naan was a little undercooked), but the multiple cockroaches in various stages of development were not. The larger one was actually crawling on the chair, the table, and then my foot. Who runs a restaurant like this? Disgusting and unsafe!

We got the lamb samosas, chicken curry, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan. The lamb samosas were ok — the dough seemed very thick(might be that style from a different part of India) that I wasn’t used to. It was very crunchy and a little hard to eat. The chicken curry was good, and the chicken tikka masala was not what I’m used to. It was too sweet and too thick/tomato-y. Again, this might be a regional difference. The garlic naan was pretty thick as well. The server didn’t speak much to us, but he did fill our water and give us plates and other things that we needed. He confused my order of chicken tikka masala and my coworker’s chicken curry by setting them down incorrectly, so I ended up eating the chicken curry thinking it was the chicken tikka masala and vice versa. It was a bit confusing because the entire time, I was confused as to how different it tasted. But regardless, these dishes don’t taste very similar to what I have in Columbus. I prefer the Indian restaurants here. Again, it may be a regional thing, I’m not sure.

On a recent visit back home to Poughkeepsie we were excited to find that Indian cuisine has finally arrived in the old hometown. We’re regular diners at Indian restaurants in the Atlanta area and thanks to the ratings on TripAdvisor we gave Kismat a try with some friends. It was very good. First off, this restaurant is essentially a hole in the wall type of place that seems to cater primarily to take out /delivery crowd at Vassar College. So the décor is not much to look at, but that’s not why you’re there. We started off with the Vegetable Samosa, Vegetable Pakoras and Shamma Savera(wife is a vegetarian) and they were excellent. For the main course we went with Tandoori Chicken, Butter Chicken and Chole Peshwari. The Tandoori Chicken was primarily to introduce our friends to Indian Cuisine. The seasonings were fantastic, though the chicken was a little overcooked and drier than it should have been. Still tasty though. The Butter Chicken was absolutely fantastic as was the Chole Peshwari. By the end of the meal we had converted two of our friends from«I’m scared of Indian Cuisine» to «I can’t wait to come back here again.» The menu is wide and varied so there is something for everyone here and the pricing is very reasonable. The only odd thing about their menu is they include beef as an option which we’ve never seen on an Indian menu. Very happy to see a good Indian Restaurant show up in Poughkeepsie, would highly recommend Kismat.

I USEDTO love this place! *Past tense* We had an indecent one day where they had delivered a moldy samosa. We threw it away and figured it was a bad mistake but we liked the food so much we thought we’d forget for now. Then not that long ago we ordered a big order and they delivered it to use when we opened it up it was ROTTEN! so bad they we couldn’t ignore it and I called them back to let them know. Now my boyfriend is actually a chef trained at the C.I.A and he was now outraged because this is a major health violation. When I told them what we found he came back and demanded the chicken back(i feel this was done so we couldn’t bring it to the health department) i had asked that we be refunded as the food was NOT edible in anyway and lets just say it was not a pleasant conversation because they didn’t think their rotten food was their fault… Long story short the Department of Health WAS contacted and they were checked out by the Department of Health and they WEREFINED and this information can be requested as it is a matter of public record. This was not an assault it is simply a warning for anyone who might eat here.

I should have known better once I walked in the place. Definitely in dire need of a makeover and cleaning! I took a chance and ordered takeout anyway. I expected authentic Indian food, what I got was great disappointment! The chicken tikka masala was bland and flavorless at best and the naan was dry and forgettable. My kids ate it reluctantly while repeatedly telling me my homemade version was better, as is the store bought naan I usually pick up in the chain grocery store!

This place is a great little spot. My boyfriend ordered lamb masala and I had chicken masala, and we shared naan. We didn’t get much meat for the $ 10 per dish, but it was very flavorful so I can’t really complain. The staff was very friendly and made it enjoyable.

Update: Kismat was found guilty by the local health authority of several violations after I reported the putrid chicken they served us. It is a matter of public record so you can request it if you’re curious what they had violations concerning.

Tonight I had the best indian food of my life — absolutely delicious on so many levels. I had Mattar Paneer — the sauce had the perfect thickness, spiciness and flavor(blended SO well, it tasted like it was simmering for days). The paneer cheese had a great texture, and absorbed the right amount of sauce while not being completely overcome by the sauce. The rice I received was also of the perfect texture and cooked great… accompanied the meal perfectly. Did I mention that this was a takeout order that I ate 30 minutes after pickup? A large order of naan and Mattar Paneer dinner for $ 13.20… this is my new go-to stop for my ethnic food desires… So insanely delicious. I highly recommend :)
