Best burgers. I love the chicken in a bag! Great service, nice people. We love going there

I wanted to update my review because this is the first time that I’ve been here since the updated, cut — down menu. There seems to be an overabundance of meat dishes without a good array of meat — free alternatives that the previous menu had. I personally never saw poutine coming with beef brisket by default, and I don’t think it’s entirely fair for me to ask for it without meat but still pay $ 8.95 for it. I had to take off a star from my previous review because I hope the owner considers restructuring the menu a bit to make it a bit more accommodating for all(how about regular poutine is $ 6.95 and poutine with meat is $ 8.95? Seems more reasonable).

Met with friends here since Poughkeepsie is halfway between our houses. I was a little nervous when drove up, since the façade looks a little«shack-y» and it’s right on Route 55. But they were open on New Years and had vegetarian options. If the outer façade is a little ghetto, the inside makes up for it. Kind of a weird use of space, but bright and sunny, with kayaks on the wall and surfboards being used as tables. That’s weird. Is surfing a big thing in Poughkeepsie? Are people coming from all over the world to ride sweet Hudson River pipeline? Whatever. They also had a giant chessboard and checkerboard with pieces, so that was awesome. Super nice, smiling girl at the counter. You order your food and go sit, then they brings it to you. I got the mao diel noodles and an order of rooster chips without bacon. The food was delicious. Not the best noodles I ever had, but flavorful and full of yummy veggies and a creamy chile sauce. The appetizer was basically a basket of kettle chips with truffle oil and melted asiago. It was amazing actually. Like classy, earthy nachos. Had to slap away my friends’ hands! The menu had a couple other veggie options, which were praised(vegan burger was described as a little mushy). Everyone seemed happy with their food. Disappointing drink menu. Basically a cooler with some sodas, teas, and juices. More choice at a gas station. This is the kind of place that should spring for a license and have some beers or something. We all talked about how much we enjoyed the Crooked Rooster the whole way home and would definitely check it out again. One friend who was with us actually said she would have to figure out how to stop there on her commute. I had no idea Poughkeepsie had such a great foodie scene. The Crooked Rooster is a great place to grab some lunch or take out and I recommend it!

Great food. Everything is made fresh and its a really cool place to have lunch. The only drawback is the food takes awhile to be made. My advice is always call ahead especially if your working and are pressed for time. Would highly recommend this place.

I had one of the best wraps of my life at this restaurant. The staff were great and the place is decorated well. Awesome for lunch or great place to take a family. Prices were very reasonable. The only thing they need to do better is get real brewed iced tea.

The place is nice looking; I the staff is friendly thats why I am giving it two stairs instead of one. If I was basting this just off the food I would have given it one star. The food me and my friend got was so so had better had worse food before, but what my dad got was bad. He had ordered the beef brisket and was very dry. I think the cashier overheard it and gave us free dessert which would have been great if the free brownies were way to sugary. Won’t be going back to this place anytime soon.

The food here is pretty good and the atmosphere is awesome. Not too busy most of the time, comfortable, and hip.

Nice spot for a sandwich. Menu is extensive and imaginative. Order at the counter and sit and wait. They are slow in kitchen so if in a hurry call ahead. I think nothing is pre made but that is an advantage if you ask me. Ambiance is cute but is loud inside. Lots of things for you to do while waiting!

This is a tough one. I want to like this place but I am on the fence. We ordered a chick ‘n bag — it’s supposedly a roasted half chicken. There is no way it was roasted, I would guess deep fried as it had the texture of chicken wings but was also on the small side. The cilantro sauce it came with was tasty but too thick for my liking. I had a grilled veg pressed sandwich with Boursin cheese. The sandwich tasted great, though it consisted of just red pepper and eggplant. But when I order grilled veggies I expect a hot sandwich and the veggies on this thing came right out of the fridge. The bread also looked more toasted than pressed. The sides were meager and uneventful. The place is cute and the prices are great. I could not find hours posted anywhere.

After eating here several times, I keep wanting to like this place… I really do – the food isn’t half bad. I just can’t get past the dining room experience. The surfer vibe does not make sense in Poughkeepsie, especially in a place that overlooks 5 lanes of traffic! Ugh, Next time I’ll order my food to-go.

Love love love the crooked rooster… I’ve had a lot of the dishes there, all were excellent… On this particular trip I went with the coconut basil bowl with noodles and chicken… It’s a good sized portion, with noodles, tomato, cabbage, fried onions, chicken and a few other things I can’t remember right now… I’ve had his before with the rice instead of noodles and I prefer that a little bit… There isn’t a strong basil flavor to it, but I still love it… The coconut flavor seems subtle at first, but it’s deep… I could get his dish every time I go there, but there’s a lot on the menu I want to try… My wife got a sandwich, don’t remember what one… But the bread was that hard, rip the top of your mouth style bread… Why does any place use this type of bread? It’s like eating store brand cap’n crunch, it destroys your mouth… This is why I went 4 stars instead of 5… But my dish was great… I highly recommend!!!

By far the coolest place around. Décor is on point and definitely a cool hangout spot. I’ve driven by the building years ago but recently decided to stop in basically because of the name. Definitely worth it. I ordered the portabello fries, expecting it to be fries with portabello on top, but I figured I’d give it a try and they were excellent. The loaded chips were okay, probably wouldn’t order it again. I ordered the chicken poboy. The flavor was there, it was very good. But the chicken was a little over cooked and was too thick of a piece for the sandwich. It was okay, but I would order something else next time. My friend also had the Philly cheesesteak and said it was messy, but good. Overall I would give this place a 4 ½ and I would definitely recommend it.

Eh. I’ve been here several times. Food always seems like it’s going to be great, but it’s actually not. The seats are uncomfortable.

This was a great place to go in Poughkeepsie. The owner was super friendly and really cares about the food and customers. The menu is large and very unique. I had a hard time deciding what to get because there were so many appealing items. All the food tasted homemade. I had the Thanksgiving sandwich which was freshly prepared. Had a nice cornbread stuffing on it, cranberry sauce and fresh turkey. My husband had the chicken marsala panini which he raved about. Both sandwiches came with a pickle, homemade macaroni salad and homemade chips which were not greasy and delicious. The décor was fun. Surfboards are used for tables. Everything including the bathroom was spotless. The only thing I didn’t understand is why everything comes in plastic containers, even when you dine in. I think that is really a waste of plastic. I would have preferred to have my food on a plate. Other than that, I will definitely return when in the area. Next time I think I will try one of the bowls.

The crooked Rooster, what an interesting place When I took a look around, the theme put a smile on my face The Foghorn Leghorn décor, some surfboards as tables, checkers if you play Stopping at the crooked rooster made for an interesting day The menu without question, had some interesting culinary delights After choosing some selections, made for some very interesting bites I had the excellent cobb salad, perfect portions of bacon and egg The greens were fresh, dressing just right, did not cost and arm and a leg One of my guests took a stab at the«stacked Thanksgiving meal» Her comment tasty, well balanced, and did not cost a great deal Another guest had the smoked salmon BLT With apple cider bacon on Texas toast«delicious», was her comment to me One other guest had the mahi mahi on a toasted brioche Came with mango salsa, «very good» makes for a very special nosh Located in the Manchester section of Poughkeepsie on route 55 Stop by the Crooked Rooster it will be well worth the drive.

First of all, I just want to start off saying that the staff are extremely generous, easygoing and friendly people. Ive only ordered twice from this place, but I know it was opened by a CIA student. Their food isn’t the GREATEST, but it’s pretty decent! I go there once in a while and get anything but the bowl dishes. I ordered the Alfredo one and I had to throw it out because it tasted nasty to me. Other than that, they have good burgers and fries!

What’s not to like about a place that incorporates Foghorn Leghorn into its décor? I’ve driven past here quite a few times and always thought I should stop in. Obviously Foghorn was sending subliminal messages to me like«Pay attention to me boy! I’m not just talkin’ to hear my head roar!» The décor beyond Foghorn is pretty festive too… brightly lit, surfboards for some tables, a lounging area, some booths, upbeat music, etc. Even though its name implies chicken, they feature other meats and fish. So, predictable me, I ordered my standard burger this first time here. It was made and cooked to order. I ordered it medium, and it was maybe a slight amount past that, but it still had some discernible pink in it to show it hadn’t gone to medium-well, plus it was still juicy. It was topped with onion rings, tomato, red onion, and(Romaine!) lettuce. From the way this burger — a special — was written on the board, I thought it came with a side of onion rings. No, they were on the burger, and it was instead accompanied by some delicious kettle chips, and a pickle. Just when I thought I was done with my meal, I wasn’t. The woman behind the counter came around and gave all the customers a complimentary chocolate-covered strawberry. Yes, Foghorn, I am paying attention.

This is a perfect example of a place that I want to give 5 stars, but it just barely falls short. I would definitely come back again for lunch with friends. Here’s the blow-by-blow… Atmosphere: Fun and colorful beach themed restaurant that wouldn’t be out of place as a roadside restaurant in LBI or some other beach town. There’s even a comfy lounge area and foosball to play while you wait. Service: Super friendly and laid back servers who don’t seem to get flustered when the restaurant is crowded. The Food: There’s plenty to choose from on the very reasonably priced main menu(salads, sandwiches, rice and noodle bowls, burgers, etc.), plus they have specials that change and glass cases with a variety of salads, sides, and desserts. Their beverage case has your typical sodas and iced teas, plus some more unique choices. Today I got The Admiral, which is battered shrimp, avocado and crab salad on a hoagie roll. It came with chips and a pickle. All of the ingredients were fresh and delicious, though it could have used a little more flavor. My husband got the Chick’n a Bag, which is 3 pieces of crisp roasted chicken tossed in a bag with your choice of sauce. The sauce he had today(chipotle citrus bbq) was good, but nothing special. He said that he has had it with their rooster sauce before, which was more unique and very good. Both of our meals were generous portions that filled us up.

I love this place and I’m a enough of a regular by now that some of the staff know me by my first name.(Don’t you love when that happens?) The salads are always solid. I recommend all of them. Whenever I want to have a healthy lunch without feeling like a rabbit I grab a salad here. They are flavorful and interesting. The sandwiches and burgers here are also excellent, and I’ve never had a bad special. I will point out a few negatives though. I’ve noticed now that I’ve been coming here for a while that the execution is not always consistent. For example I’ll sometimes open my salad to find all the ‘frizzles’(onion strings) in one big hard clump. Things like that aren’t a huge deal to me because I’m already a loyal customer and that doesn’t always happen, but it is a bit annoying to spend $ 10 on a salad and have it look half-assed. I don’t usually get the bowls, but I’ve been told by my friends that they can be hit or miss. I also don’t understand why everything is served in big plastic containers. I’m not a super conservation freak, but every time I go to the garbage and see the huge pile of plastic, I wince. It seems unnecessarily wasteful. Quality consistency and environmentalism aside, I really love this spot, and the service is great. Definitely give this place a try!
