Not gonna lie, after reading the reviews I was nervous about this place . The load in sucked for the bands gear because it’s two flights of stairs, but it got done ! The area this venue is in is SUPERSKETCHY. I am from MKEWI and I feel safer in sketchy areas there, this area was way worse. I don’t suggest coming to a show here by yourself . The sound wasn’t the best but I’ve heard worse. It was just kind of a cluster of sound vs hearing each instrument clearly and in its own place . The staff was super friendly and helped out. The space itself is quite big and open so you don’t have to get there to early. The stage is elevated so you can see the band clearly.

terrible sound, sketchy owners, poorly managed. Even the best bands sound terrible because this place has the worst setup in the world and horrific equipment, the first reviewer was dead on. Just don’t waste your money here, honestly you are better off at a bar with a band playing. And they don’t even pay the bands, they just stiff them. That should tell you all you need to know about the management.

The Loft is part of «The Chance Entertainment Complex», located in beautiful, scenic, friendly and quaint downtown Poughkeepsie. While The Chance has it’s charm(see my review here: …), The Loft is a bit of a mess. This is just not a good place to see/hear bands perform. I’m not sure if it’s the awkward layout, or the tiny, low stage with the lighting rig blocking the performers’ heads, or the bad acoustics due to the drop ceiling(missing a few tiles) or the ceramic tile-like floor, or maybe they just have a poor sound system and/or soundman, but the sound is not great and you can barely see the band unless you are right in front of the stage, which is also not fun because your head will be line with the band member’s crotches… well, some people might find that fun, but not me. I’ve seen local as well as national, well-known bands perform here and it’s always been a crummy show. Bands I’ve seen put on a great show elsewhere were just poor-sounding here. And oh yeah… the bathrooms are beyond skanktastic. I will continue to see bands at The Chance’s main space, but I’ll probably stay away from The Loft.
