Thought I’d share my latest review of Hal with my fellow Unilocalers. I’ve used Hal 2x over the last several years my complaint is that he doesn’t do weekly pool service in our area. But I’m completely grateful that he at least does repair work in our area. Both times we’ve used him he has been completely honest and gone above and beyond with his service. Even taking the time to educate us so we can do some of the repairs and future work ourselves.
After having our local pool service guys out to help reopen our pool they found numerous things wrong with our pool equipment. It seems that every time they come out there are many many things wrong all of which require expensive replacement parts. This time they said our lines needed to be «blown out» for $ 150 and when that didn’t «fix» the problem they said our actuator and heater were bad estimated replacement cost $ 3,000. Since all the equipment had been working fine when I used it a week before their recommendations didn’t make any sense. After checking them myself and not finding anything wrong we called Hal– his 2^nd time out here. And honestly he should have been my 1^st call but I tried to support our local service.
Hal troubleshot the system over the phone for free. But we still opted to have him come for an on-​site inspection just to verify what we suspected — that our pool service had missdiagnosed the problem either by accident or… He fixed what our pool service had screwed up– removing an actuator that was working fine, re-​installing a one way valve that the pool guys had installed backwards (this was installed correctly BEFORE they came out), and verifying that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the heater.
All the pool needed was to have the DE filter recharged (box of DE powder $ 20 at home depot) which I had mentioned to the pool service before they came out the 1^st time. So our repair estimate went from $ 3,000 plus the $ 150 to blow out the line which wasn’t need to $ 20. As before Hal was honest and very fair in his pricing. He even came out on a weekend when he was expecting out of town company. His bill included the service call which he applied to the work he did– cleaning our de filter, troubleshooting some minor leaks we had, correcting the one way valve the other guys had evidently removed and replaced backwards, and re-​installing the «broken» actuator. Thanks again Hal. You will definitely be our 1^st and only call the next time we have any pool issues again. I just wish you would provide pool service in our area. But we are grateful that you do provide repair work in our area.

Called Sun and Fun cold and hoped for the best. I was afraid that there was a serious problem as there was so much air getting into the system the pump kept priming it’s self. Hal came just when he said he would. He figured out the problem right away. He showed me the valve that needed replacing, gave me a very reasonable price and had it done in no time. He then checked out, explained and fixed a couple of other concerns at no additional cost. I asked for a replacement part and he said I didn’t need it.
He fixed my pool and did not over sell anything. I would absolutely call him again.

Hal did such a good job and was such a joy to have around, I am almost looking forward to my pool breaking. If every business were as professional, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced, Unilocal wouldn’t exist.
I have tried to maintain my pool myself. I have changed the motor, changed actuators, repaired solar panels, and cleaned out filters. From here on out, I am calling Hal. He does it well. He is responsive and clear in his communications. He is flexible and punctual.
My fear was that I had a leak in the hot tub, spurring the call. The only leak was in my logic as it turned out to be a nearby hose spigot. With the leak and my solar panels, Hal put my best interests in front of his potential profits and gave me the straight scoop.
I could not be happier with the work done by Hal and his crew. I would keep going and going, but the hot tub just hit 104 degrees.
