My fiancé and I are thinking of moving to Fayetteville from Texas and came out to explore some of the state parks and beauty that Arkansas has to offer. The drive up from Fayetteville was very pretty and the park had a lot of history, I can’t wait to come back when the trees are full of leaves! The little trail was about a mile or so and had a few historic markers along the way, gave us something to read here and there as we made our way around the loop. Unfortunately the visitors center was closed when we got there(didn’t look up the hours before leaving) so that was a bummer, but obviously our fault. We would love to come back and do one of the tours, we just walked around for a bit and saw the houses on our own. I was a little disappointed in the quality of the restoration of the buildings(styrofoam) but it was great reading everything and I’m sure there would have been even more information if we had showed up in time for the tour. I can’t wait to come back and check it out again!

Certainly worth visiting, but not as large or prominent as the Pea Ridge National Battlefield near Bentonville or Wilsons Creek National Battlefield near Springfield, MO. Both of those are operated by the National Park Service. The Prairie Grove Battlefield Park is operated by the State of Arkansas Parks System and is on a smaller scale. There are a couple of cannons and a few historic structures, either original or rebuilt on old foundations. There is a relatively short walking tour, and there is an automobile tour that takes you away from the park proper and through a residential neighborhood to other specific sites associated with the state park. It’s something interesting to see, but don’t expect to be awe struck by what’s there.
