The fried pickles and garlic ranch were delicious. Build your own Mac n cheese with bacon was to die for. Our server was less than talkative, but she was slammed and still gave us good service. We will be back.

Stopped in for dinner last night… Quite disappointed. Let me be clear, this is not a normal experience for us at the Moose… We most certainly hope this doesn’t become the normal. We are so grateful that they take reservations and call ahead seating. That is a feature that we most appreciate. I loved that I called in, they gave me a very accurate wait time and allowed me to put my name on the list. Call me picky but the staff should ask call ahead seating patrons if they do or do not want to sit in the bar. When we were called for our table they tried to put us right in the middle of the bar. That is the last place on earth I would ever want to sit in a restaurant. I appreciate them allowing us to wait for another table in the dining room. However, I do not appreciate that it took 10 minutes to get an already empty table cleaned… Nonetheless, we were seated near the fire which was delightful. Please allow me to get on my soapbox. One of our favorite menu items has always been the buffalo wings. In the last 12 to 18 months they changed the recipe and now the new buffalo sauce is just slightly too hot to tolerate. Recommendation: have two options. Have a mild buffalo sauce option and a spicy buffalo sauce option. *steps off of soapbox*. Our waitress was just fine. Neither good nor bad. She was terribly disinterested in being at work that night. Nonetheless she faked a smile and served us. We had hopes that our repeated request for the buffalo sauce to be fixed had been fulfilled. We requested a sample of the buffalo sauce which they kindly brought to us. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. So, no buffalo wings for us! The poor experience is partially my fault. My favorite entrée is the turkey pesto Panini. Trying to adhere to a gluten-free diet I requested it be made with their gluten-free bun. Last time I do that! Our food arrived in due time with my french fries room temperature at best… Our waitress was kind enough to replace them with«new» fries that were obviously microwaved. It was not worth the fight… I accepted them fortunately enough because they ended up being my dinner. While the fries were being replaced I took one bite of the«gluten-free» turkey pesto Panini. It was absolutely inedible. The«bread» was not fit for human consumption. The turkey was dry. There was no pesto on the sandwich. The sandwich was cold to the point the cheese did not melt. I felt terrible but asked the waitress to replace my sandwich with just the normal menu style turkey pesto Panini. Although not my job, I apologized repeatedly… The apology was not returned. The replacement sandwich came out minutes later. It was just as disappointing if not more than the original order. The bread was covered in the oily butter sauce. It was not warm. It had obviously not been put in the Panini press for more than 60 seconds. The meat was dry and cold. The cheese with yet again not melted. There was less than a half teaspoon of pesto on the entire sandwich. I managed a bite and a half and could not eat anymore. The waitress returned yet again and had no response to my second complaint. I told her it was not edible and she proceeded to leave it in front of me. We asked for our check which she returned to the table with promptly. She advised she had gotten the managers approval to not charge us for the sandwich I had ordered. Looking at the receipt they had actually charge me for two sandwiches and then credited both of the sandwiches on the ticket. Her communication of this was as though she was doing me the world’s biggest favor… hmmmm… We paid the ticket and prepared to leave. A gentleman who I assume was a manager came to the table and apologized that I «did not like the sandwich». Again, questionable way of communicating this… Without further argument we counted it loss and left. I truly treasure our Prairie Village restaurants. A thriving shopping center with so many great options! Hoping that this is just a one time incident!

The Blue Moose is a Prairie Village staple for so many people who enjoy having a local restaurant in the neighborhood. There is a nice bar area for watching games and usually good specials for food and drinks. The patio can be very nice and is usually crowded when the weather is warmer. They serve American food such as pastas, sandwiches, hamburgers, chicken, and salads. The servers are nice, but I have never had exceptional service. Yesterday, my husband and I had lunch there; and the food was slow coming out. When the entrée’s arrived I pointed out to the man who delivered them that the appetizer we ordered never arrived. They made the appetizer and served it to us about 5 minutes later. I was surprised that they didn’t offer to exclude this from the bill, as it’s not very helpful to have your appetizer served after you have consumed half your meal. I have lived in the neighborhood for six years, and this is a place I will probably go to only once a year or so because there are better options in Prairie Village for food.

I came here for lunch and had a terrible experience. I have eaten at the Blue Moose in Topeka numerous times and always had good luck, so I was shocked with how this place was so different. We came for lunch on a Saturday. The waitress sat us at a booth and then totally forgot we existed for about 25 minutes and didn’t even bring us waters. When we finally got the waters, she plopped them down on the table and walked off without asking if we were ready to order(we were). After about another 15 minutes, she finally came back and we told her what we wanted. I ordered the mac and cheese and added in roasted garlic and asparagus. When our food was finally brought out, things only went downhill. My mac and cheese had asparagus on it and a giant gray blob sitting in the middle. Alarmed, I motioned to the waitress to come back to our table and asked what was up with the gray blob– and in response she rolled her eyes at me and said«that’s your garlic”-as if any old fool would know that a giant gray blob of what appears to be old Kindergarten paste is the«roasted garlic» they are paying extra for on their entrée. I told her that I had eaten at the Topeka chain of this restaurant a number of times and had ordered the exact same meal and that it had cloves of actual roasted garlic in it. She(again) rolled her eyes at me and then tried to argue that I was wrong(I’m not). She told me that the gray blob was roasted garlic out of a tube, and that’s the only way they serve it. She didn’t offer to fix it or make it right, or to give me some mac and cheese without the gray blob, so I had to scrape what I could of gray mush off my noodles and eat what was left. Terrible service, Mediocre food. And if they are taking shortcuts like that, I don’t think anyone should eat here.

I have never had such horrible service. We frequently visit other KC Hopps Restaurants, as well at the south Overland Park blue moose location. Some friends and I had a girls night out, we were given the recommendation to go to Blue Moose for the late night drink special. I’ve had bad experiences at this location before, but agreed for the decent drink specials. There were 4 of us. We arrived shortly after 9:30pm. We were immediately sat. Waited a few minutes before being approached by a server who was extremely rude. He didn’t necessarily greet us. Just asked us what we wanted to drink, before we could even answer he walked away. We waited another 10 minutes before he came back again. He was extremely short with us, I asked him what martini he would recommend, he seemed like I was inconveniencing him so I just ordered a beer. Shortly after we received our drinks, a drink was knocked over and was mostly in our laps. My friend on the outside of the booth jumped up and grabbed the rolled silverware from the high top table next to us so we could use the napkin. Our server came running out of the kitchen, told us we couldn’t use his«rolled silverware» and gave us the gross towel they use to wipe the other tables down. I would prefer not to wipe the puddle in my lap up with someone else’s crumbs. We told him we were ready for our checks and we had our cards out. Instead of asking if we needed our tickets, he just took all of our credit cards and ran them. When we were finished we approached the manager. As we were leaving Omar, Our server, had the patio door open, sarcastically screamed out«bye ladies» as we were in the parking lot. I try to support local businesses, but the service here has been horrible many times. And I will not be returning. Edit: I received a phone call from my friend today that she had been charged 2 different transactions in different amounts from Blue Moose. I checked my account and the same thing happened to me. Regardless of the amount we spent, we did not authorize Him to apply these charges. I contacted the manager, who almost sounded like she didn’t believe me. I mentioned it wasn’t the money that was a concern to me but having an untrustworthy staff member, who is rude, and has my information in which they are applying unauthorized charges on my card.

Seems like a lot of snooty stuck up Joco types giving 2 and 3 star reviews to bring this place down. When in reality, this is a solid 4 star place. I’ve eaten at this location and the one in south Overland Park multiple times. The menu is phenomenal and innovative. The food always seems well prepared. Happy hour is a great time to get a quality drink at a reasonable price. The brunch they do on the weekends is to die for. My only complaint is that it’s a bit pricey and the service can be a smidge slow; but all in all? It’s a very worthy stop for dinner or brunch if you’re okay with splurging a bit on a $ 20-$ 30 per head meal.

Blue Moose packs a loaded menu and solid food into the heart of Prairie Village. If I had to make a comparison, I’d say it’s like a better, local version of Chili’s. I remember years and years ago when this opened and asking my mom, «Why Blue Moose? Are there blue moose? Is there a reason this is called blue moose?» I couldn’t wrap my head around it. It dawned on me last night that I’m still not really sure of the whole connection. The menu is eclectic. There’s a lot going on, from quesadillas to chicken fried chicken. You can find a meal for $ 8, or you can pay $ 20 for an entrée. it really ranges. Like a lot of American restaurants, you can expect the portions to be huge. Maybe the nostalgia factor of Blue Moose struck me the last few times in, but I ordered a kids favorite meal: chicken tenders with fries and honey mustard. They’re really pretty good, although the fries are pretty standard. The chicken strips are very crispy, huge and have a nice salty kick to them. If you’re on the fence about going here, I’d recommend checking it out. It’s in a great neighborhood, has a friendly staff and the food is pretty good.

It came with high recommendation. So we went, maybe my expectations were just to high. 8 of us went at lunch. I ordered the 3 Little Pig with a side salad and blue cheese dressing. We had some salads, wraps, and a hamburger. The positives. We were seated quickly at 11:45am which is nice, but not a good sign for me. The waiter was friendly and quick with our drinks and orders. It was clean and the lunch atmosphere was friendly. I believe we went there for that reason, a get in and get out place. The negatives. We had 8 people and 6 silverware, if your going to get a table ready, please get the table«ready». The food was edible. Nothing special, I didn’t like my sandwich, everything tastes like it had been cooked an hour earlier and set in a crockpot to dry out. Even the burger was burnt and dry. The buffalo chicken wraps seemed to get the only compliment. My side salad was bland. The croutons almost chipped my teeth, they were so hard. The fries were, meh. Overall, if I returned at lunch I would get the wrap. It’s a quick sit down in and out and located to enter and exit well. I’m sure it had its prime days, and maybe we had a substitute cook. I’m sure I’ll try it one more time to make sure before I put it on my «never return again» list.

Just came back from brunch. It was pretty average for items present, quality, and taste. Bacon and sausages tasted pretty bad. Chef’s pasta was drowned in oil. Manager keep blocking me when I was the only one in line talking to a kichen aid regarding what was needed. Appropriate action would have been to apologize and step the side but she was totally unaware of her surroundings. Our waiterss was pretty good and attentive.

Went to Blue Moose for the first time tonight based off a friends recommendation. The 3 ½ stars on Unilocal kinda had me worried. But this place was very much worth at least four stars. Got there about 5:00 and got seated right away. Service was good during the whole visit, even after the place got filled up. Took advantage of happy hour and got half price fried pickles and drinks. Food: very good. The fried pickles were great. I had the three little pigs sandwich and it was really good. So were the fries. Drinks: well, drink rather. My friend suggested I get one of their specialty drinks called the Black Tie Affair. Man, that thing was good! Especially at half price. I ended up getting two of them and was feeling them pretty quick. I tasted a few fruits in there. I don’t know what all it had, but it was really good. All in all this place was really great. Cool atmosphere, good service and really good things that go in my mouth.

I usually ate here because it was close. They switched up their menu recently and that actually greatly improved their food offerings, which before were like lackluster apps and sandwiches. So in the olden days, we’d only come for a drink and then eat some place else. That being said the new food is good, but it’s being served from the same old location and the two don’t really mesh well. Food aside, they do have great drink deals most nights of the week and being walking distance from a lot of places in PV made this place an easy and fun place to just hang out.

I have been going to The Blue Moose for years and have never been disappointed. Whether it’s with my kids team after a soccer game or a girls night out or a date night, Blue Moose is always a great choice. The staff is always very accommodating to a challenging guest like myself.(Yeah, I’m a «When Harry Met Sally» kinda gal…“Can I have the salad but with no onions, mushrooms or croutons and extra dressing… on the side?”) I asked the bartender for a drink they haven’t had on the menu for YEARS and she kindly obliged. I always get the baked brie and it is delish, a perfect summer appetizer with light crackers and a garnish that’s more of a small salad, really. Yum. If you like crème bruleé do yourself a favor and get theirs… salted caramel! I’m pretty picky about desserts and they really nail that one! The renovations look great and I could happily spend hours on the comfy couches nestled around the fire pit on the patio.(If you can get people to give those spots up!!!) Interesting side note, the staff had such cool shirts on that my boyfriend asked if he could buy one and they are only $ 5! I got one too, a super cute woman’s v-neck. So, listen to me, a 10+ year Prairie Village resident that has been going to this Blue Moose about as long… make this place your go-to. You won’t regret it!

I came here with my mom and toddler and it was great. A popular spot especially for happy hour on a Friday, but still super family friendly. We got nachos and cauliflower wings. The nachos were awesome. The cauliflower wings were good, but were sitting in a pool of grease. My toddler got a burger from the kids menu which she didn’t like(more of an adult tasting burger), but our waiter was happy to give us Mac and cheese as a(free) replacement. I was happily surprised with the interior of the Blue moose. Modern and comfy.

I’m very happy they have me two forks so I could use one as my iced tea spoon. I used to do radio ads for this place. It hasn’t changed much. The host and server would rather be somewhere else. The menu is pretty standard restaurant fare, nothing spectacular. My wife ordered the Mac and cheese and added some veggies, I ordered the chicken fingers because we’re both apparently eight years old. The food was pretty good. I would give this three and a half stars and would go higher but for the amateur aspects of service.

After several years of no visits to this Blue Moose, a friend and I decided to hit it up for a change in our social travelings. I was not very excited, as I don’t much care for the Prairie Village atmosphere, but we had a great evening. First, the venue itself is very warm and homey. A fireplace is always a hit with me, and the tables are placed so that if you sit in the main dining area, you kind of feel like you’re in your home. The tables are spread out so that you have your own area with your group. There is also a side room(which I remembered being more of a patio, but it is now finished) that can accommodate a couple of larger groups if you need that. Finally, my favorite area is the bar. Well, the bar is generally my favorite area, but this one is warm and intimate. This Moose has about ten tap selections, none of them exciting, all of them expected in KC…Free State, Blvd, KC Bier, New Belgium products. The beer menu was not up to date at all, so I had to get up and go look at the tap handles to figure out what I could have. What we ate: We had a grits and slab bacon appetizer that was buttery, fatty, and decadent. I tried one teeny bite because I figured it would ruin my appetite if I had more; it was that rich! For my entrée, I had a short rib grilled cheese with ghost pepperjack cheese and some kind of jam. While it was delicious, I think it was kind of small for the $ 12 I paid. I expected more even though I didn’t need more. For dessert we had a butter cookie, and was it ever loaded with butter! Once again, decadent, and I only had one small bite. Our server, Jesse, was spot on with recommendations and service. Five stars for him! Overall, my experience was enjoyable. I was very happy that on a Saturday evening at 8 pm, the families with kids had cleared out. I am glad I gave Blue Moose another try, as I think this will be put back into our rotation of places to eat and drink.

This was some of the worst service I’ve ever had. We had a party of about ten, so we made sure to call ahead and let them know we were coming. When we get there at 11:05 I tried to order off of their«Late Night» Menu. Which is supposed to go from 11:00-Close. I was then informed that they had already turned the oven off. I could either have humus or chips and salsa. The server was EXTREMELY rude. Since having customers in the establishment is clearly only an inconvenience for your servers, don’t worry about my business coming back.

I ate here for lunch today and it was great! I had never been before and met here for business. The restaurant was pretty full, but the noise level was still low which was really nice. Our server was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. I had the build your own mac and cheese with grilled chicken added. The mac and cheese was awesome, and I am very picky! The grilled chicken was well seasoned, well cooked and had great flavor. Also, it was cut into small strips which made it much easier to eat(vs other places that put a whole chicken piece in your bowl for you to figure out how to cut). My coworker had the turkey burger and had a side of mashed cauliflower. She went on and on about how good the cauliflower was. She said it is the best she has had. She also enjoyed her turkey burger. Another person with us had the tortilla soup, and she nearly licked her bowl clean she liked it so much. She said it was excellent. The manager(I believe) stopped by our table to see how things were going also. She was very nice, and I appreciate that she took the time to stop by. She even cleared some plates that we had recently finished. I don’t live very close, but next time I am in the area I will be coming back! Four stars vs 5 because I will only give 5 to places I have had several good experiences at(ie I must have visited more than once). With more visits like this one I would easily change my review to 5 stars.

We selected Blue Moose specifically because of its Restaurant Week menu. We arrived at 11:45am on Monday(just 3 days into the special) only to learn that they were already out of the shrimp and grits. The Bánh mì sandwich description failed to mention it was covered in cilantro and didn’t contain any jalapeños, which WAS listed in the description. The service was slow and mediocre, which has been a trend our last few times here. The food is ok, but there’s always an issue with something every time we come here. KC has too many great restaurants now to tolerate below average fare, poor management and inattentive service — spend your money elsewhere and leave satisfied and happy(the way eating out should be)!
