Enjoyed the ambience of the White tail deer cabin and it was very well stocked. However we would not stay there again due to the fact that the beds were terrible. What a shame that so much nice effort was put into making the little cabin nice then to provide substandard beds. In addition to two terrible matresses, the sheets were almost threadbare and the pillows went from plastic feel to lumpy and hard. Upgrades the beds and we will be back.

We stayed in a suite in the old elementary school. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff was friendly. Breakfast was very basic. Hot tub looked great, but we didn’t try it. Good value for the price.

Came here on a road-trip with my dude, and he booked the place(we stayed at the actual inn near the trail, not the suites). As the previous reviewer noted, the bike trail is the selling point of Preston, and we were there to ride, so the Trailhead Inn was our choice for that purpose. We came in the off-season(aka after Labor Day) and when we arrived before 5pm on a weekday, the office was closed… but we tried the door and it was open! Room keys and a note were on the table… gotta love those trusting small-town Minnesota folks. :) Room was nicely appointed with a queen bed, dresser, TV with cable, small table, 2 chairs, a huuuuuuuuge bathroom… and yes, they have A/C! They even have a sweet porch swing on the deck, and are A-OK with you bringing your adult beverages out in plastic cups. :) We helped ourselves to the breakfast in the morning(yogurt, cereal, instant oatmeal) and the lady in the office when it opened was very polite. Also, we enjoyed meeting the Amish family who came into Preston and set up shop at the edge of the Trailhead Inn parking lot to hawk their homemade wares.(The dandelion jelly was delish!) Three stars because I felt the walls were a bit thin(either that, or our neighbor saws big logs at night!), and the procedure for arrival in the off-season wasn’t totally clear. If we hadn’t known our room number or thought to try the door, it would’ve been a problem. All’s well that ends well, right? Would recommend if you are coming to Preston for the trail, as the access is perfect. Reasonably priced for off-season lodging, but I’m sure it’s high in the summer!

Stayed in the«lower» class rooms, not the suites. Nice size room with a comfortable bed. Room was clean and did not hear the neighbors. Breakfast just met the basic definition for breakfast. Problem with staying in Preston instead of Lanesboro is that there is nothing to do in Preston other than the bike trail.
